Nobunaga ZA FUURU 2

Yeah, pretty sure this shit is my surprise of the season. It's so good. And dat ED theme, holy shit. Second only to Wooser S2's.

Yeah Caesar, leave your shit in the hands of Brutus. I'm sure that'll go real well.

Gundam Build Fighters Episode 14:

Not going to lie, this episode got on my nerves with all the extraneous bullshit starting to pile up and little advancement seen since the last episode. They really seem to be making for some kind of potential shipping run with Alia and Reiji which isn't really working out because of a variety of factors, chief of which is they have chemistry roughly as interesting as a soggy wheatabix. I was getting tried of Chairman McMahon's antics
until the prince knock down his fucking door and looks ready to set shit straight, interest renewed.
Finally, the Gundam Racing was just, boring, didn't even have the over the top goofy kinetic energy that Gundam Baseball had. Also, that ending feels more like they realized that Set and Reiji have been dominating shit thus far and needed to asspull some shit to put them back into an underdog position. Even with that in mind there is no tension at this stage because they have already been hyping up the rival matches and they have had to resort to pure gimmickry to keep things interesting. Yea, all and all this the worst episode seen so far. Also, the new OP and ED are good I suppose, but certainly follow in that tradition of being far less memorable then the first ones at this point.

This was pretty charming. Enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would have!
One of the things to watch if you have 3 minute gaps that need feeling.

Masterful is the word that comes to mind. It interweaves a complex narrative over enjoyable episodic material that at the same time conveys a heartwarming lesson. You can kinda predict how the story is going to unfold but the level of care put into the details and the overwhelming emotion put into the core of the story really makes it a transcendent work. The setting itself, taking place at college, is something I enjoy and the age of the characters also made it something unique. The early 20s is an age where a person can easily feel lost in trying to navigate through life and I'm sure there are plenty of people who wish they had redos. It's an age group that is rarely discussed in any serious manner in anime and it was refreshing to see a serious look at the emotional issues people in early adulthood are facing. The characters are all crazy to an extent but also sort of realistic in that there are people who are like that, even if they're not that insane. There are times where it seems like the show is losing control but Yuasa reigns everything in at the end.

The show won't win any awards for the animation but the art direction was really unique. I haven't seen much of Yuasa's stuff so the show had a really distinctive visual style to it. The character art in particular had this sort of surrealistic element to it that really worked. Yuasa plays around a lot with the character art such as with Ozu, and it helps with the narrative in that it reinforces the unreliable narrator bit. It also had a lot of energy and style to it that made the episodes just fun to watch. Episode 6 in particular was a riot. The soundtrack was also great at hitting those emotions and really nailing the tone in the scenes.

Something I never really note but struck out to me in Tatami is the VA work. Asanuma really had his hands full voicing Watashi. The breakneck speed of the narration really made it hard to follow at times and I'm sure Asanuma had his work cut out for him reading the script. It's so 'matter of factly' that I actually enjoyed this narration style as it was very dry and sarcastic to an extent. Another VA that I enjoyed immensely is Hiyama for Johnny. Oh man, Johnny's scenes were so good due to the influx of emotion from Hiyama.

The staff had a lot of fun playing around with the time travel elements, creating this complex universe composing of multiple characters in different stages. There's a lot going on in the backgrounds that can be very easy to miss if the audience isn't paying attention. However the interconnectivity is there and makes sense in the end. It reminded me of what I liked about Arrested Development's season 4 to a large extent. It's an impressive work just for that element alone.

The moral of the show isn't anything new. "Live life to the fullest and don't worry about making mistakes" isn't something new but the clever way Yuasa does it, really drives home the message. By watching Watashi repeatedly fail, the show makes it clear that there is no such as a perfect rosy life but rather just the one you're living. It's a fun show with a great and relevant message at the end.

Tatami was a really unique experience. A bit hard to follow with the words going a million miles an hour but the whole thing was interesting to see. The only question is why isnt it licensed cause this would be on my shelf.

My understanding from seeing peoples reactions is that Nisekoi pulls every dirty trick in the book to keep its harem uncertainty going as long as possible.

Good. I like a nice convoluted harem with plenty waifu choices.

Wizard Barristers - Episode 1

This was like watching a 90s OVA released as a 2014 TV series, for all the right and wrong reasons. Really stupid character designs. Super detailed art. Crazy action animation. Hot female cop with smartass male partner. Guns. SWAT teams. Explosions. Magicians. Terrible CG used for really silly reasons. Terrible CG used for normal reasons. Over the top campy music. Wakamoto playing a perverted frog familiar who is extremely animated. Scene after scene of wacky random crazy shit.

Yup. This is the real Umetsu. Which probably means the FBI is tracking anyone who watches more than 3 episodes of it. :(

hit right in the nostalgia. Good times. 90s ovas were my drug.

Since it's Shaft, I know it can't be longer than 13 episodes. And I'm easily impressed by Monogatari-isms, it seems. lol

Tsukuyomi moonphase was 25 episodes.

Nisekoi - 01

This is pretty good. After watching the first five episodes of Monogatari, this is kinda jarring - it's like, reasonably competent and isn't a total mess visually, with a few good cuts of animation and some nice looking scenes.

I know the manga is woeful, but this was enjoyable. I'll stick with it for now.

Onodera is clearly the best girl.

I agree with Onodera. Why dont people like her?

I suppose if your small village is going to be decimated by helicopter fire you may as well have a cute Japanese drawn female as the last thing you see.

Lewd Senpai > sexy Senpai > bubblegum > blue

So good. I need to get caught up on this.

But shes cute :(
So are the paving slabs. Particularly around Christmas when they're illuminated by the festive lighting.

Anyway out of the three griffin figures I have they fucked up Kurumi the least. Do you know of any other upcoming figs of her? I need more Kurumi.
There's one here up for pre-order (May release), but I don't think it's been painted yet so I can't say whether it's a worthy purchase. The price is really low so I can't imagine it'll be anything groundbreaking. Still, if it's any good I may well buy it from that link, because it's a German store with low UK shipping costs.

Episode 00 starting to make some sense little by little.
This was pretty emotional. Not as sakuga as 00 but from what I hear they re-use much of the footage found on that.

Is watching episode 0 necessary? Gonna start watching this soon.

Detective Conan 278:
Poor Megure could only take so much of this nonsense. Him flipping out on the three of them was pretty funny, and he had some great facial expressions like always. The highlight of the episode was obviously the Heiji vs Jodie showdown. That conversation at the end was pretty killer, and the phone call was a great moment, too. It's nice when Heiji can get a bit more involved in the main plot.

Poor Kazuha, though, just getting completely stood up by Heiji. But she has to be used to it for now.

From duckroll's clams it's not really needed. Episode 0 is basically out of context action. The contents of episode 0 themselves are all part of the series with parts being re-used.
I'd say it's worth it because it's pretty awesome on its own and the series takes a different direction.

So far some great character building and pacing. It might be too early to tell but I feel I did well to wait to finish this and a couple more shows before my AOTY vote.
So gooood

This show is so damn enjoyable with it's productions, style and music. And the BGM when Yato summon a weapon made me realized Noragami's OST is done by Taku motherfucking Iwasaki.

Corvo: Is this your first Satoshi Kon title? He's the kind to kick you into the open sea with no lifeline. Watch Perfect Blue sometime.

I, for one, loved the Happy Family Planning episode.

This is my first Satoshi Kon series. The issue I have with the episode is mostly its connection to its title. Prior to that, I'm sure I could have gone on about the meaning of this or that thing in the episode, but maybe I'm just associating "Family Planning" with "Planned Parenthood" and so I cannot escape the notion that something more is being suggested by that last second revelation than the rest of the episode had lead me to believe.

That's like asking if they ever found the One Piece!

And that's why I don't watch crazy long running series like that anymore. Ash Ketchum will never, ever get there.

Considering Japanese society, the overall theme of the show, and a key fact early in the episode, it's much more about suicide as a means of escape than what you're getting at, although I can see where that would come from.

SYD episode 2

More lewd.

Some anime about young girl whose molested by a ghost episode 2

Ah, now some plot. I feel bad for the girl.

No-RIN episode 1

The teacher is highly amusing. And holy shit at the picture she showed the class. LEWD.

Some anime about a loli taking over the world episode 1

But she's got super powers!

Tonari no Seki-ku

More HanaKana talking to herself. Better than porn.

Real yuri episode 1

Yuri, it can defy gravity.

I think I've just seen too much Kawamori. Because if Kawamori had written this episode, you'd better believe it would've been about abortion.

Not the Dreamcast!
The plot thickens! It's interesting to see where all the things from episode 0 are coming from.
Some good action antics this episode too and I think I finally understand the 'big brother' and the science team.
Onwards!
