Making steady progress! Only 236 episodes to go! This series really is constantly improving. This one was the best yet. I think I might actually like the Shinsengumi more than the main cast. Sogo performing a ritual for Hijikata's death at the beginning was great.
Now THIS is more like it!! I haven't felt Gurren Lagann feels like this in a long time.
Seriously, humans are fighting a losing battle, Noriko is scared shitless of fighting in space after what happened to Smith, all hope seems lost, then Noriko, getting a burst of confidence comes raging in with the badass Gunbuster screwing up all those aliens. Top it all off with the OP playing at the end of the episode. I love it when shows do that.
Yep, should've waited a bit more on Yowamushi Pedal to be nearing its end. I think, for shounen anime, I should just wait until it's mostly over or something, just so I can binge it. Maybe I'll put Yowamushi Pedal on hold until that point. Maybe...
That being said, I say this because the training aspects of Greed Island is like a breeze for me with all these episodes being done with, on top of the plot aspect of Greed Island. It's like... I know one particularly gruesome moment happens here, but it's still like... the calm before the storm that is the Chimera Ant arc.
Okay so if King Arthur is really as evil as this episode makes him sound to be (which is arguable, since Nobunaga himself is famous for being ambitious and some legends have Arthur marching in and conquering Rome and nearly destroying Britain in his war against Lancelot), then my prediction is that after Mitsuhide inevitably betrays Nobunaga the series will end with the arrival of Grand Admiral George Washington. Like that'll be the end of the entire series and nothing after it.
Because that's how hilariously stupid this show is. And I love it for that. Which is good, because God the mecha in this show are so ugly.

Yeah, I almost wish this show had a female lead instead. Since the couple has to remain chaste forever, at least having a female lead would let them play on all the fun shoujo tropes of Aim for the Ace or Oniisama e, where all the other people in the school are jealous of the new girl.
Also, that one Kiki moment with the broom flying was funny because of what it was trying to evoke. I suppose it didn't look too terrible for what it was anyway.
I haven't really watched a magic girlfriend show in a while, and this seems to be more shounen-ey than echii, so I guess I'll make this the random guilty pleasure show that I watch this season.

Personally I only watch an anime if I have already experienced the same things as the protagonist. It's the only way to fairly criticize a work after all.

It's not even that he's male, it's that he's the typical no personality MC. Paring that character with a stone-faced monotone female lead doesn't work very well.
The difference between the first half of this show and the second half so far is INSANE
Space Dandy 3
A step down from previous episodes but I still had a big smile on my face for most of the episode. Lost it at the end when it became clear Meow straight up died in that episode though. I understand if many don't find the humor laugh out loud hilarious but I'm having a LOT of fun with this show and it feels unfortunate that some others don't feel the same
Sword Art Online 21
Shows like this are why people joke anime is dead. What a gigantic, floating-in-the-toilet piece of shit >_< How do people legit like this show?
Was he? I didn't get far enough into the episode to find out. My mind broke after the ridiculous starting plot, paper-thin characterization, crappy designs and CG monsters. One of the few shows I couldn't finish an episode of.

So would this have been the last episode at one of the theatrical screenings? I'd be so fucking mad at getting cliffhangered if so :lol
A space submarine? fuck yes! also the character stuff was nice too. Just the right amount of intrigue on the Garmilias side and just the right amount of bonding on the terran side.
So I had seen a couple of episodes of the TV series before dropping it so I was familiar with the franchise to an extent before starting the movie. Thankfully the movie isn't too dependent on knowledge of the TV series so I was able to follow along with everything fairly easily. I almost want to watch the TV series now but I have a strong feeling that would end up in disappointment. Overall, I liked it but wasn't really in love with it.
The background art in the film is gorgeous, like really uber detailed and full of life. The festival was full of life and color. It's really something else, something I would expect out of an Oshii movie or just something from the '80s rather than today. I also thought there was some really fantastic use of depth of field in quite a few shots and the movie in general had really good storyboarding such as the transition from the kid's story early on(which really had some great art direction in that segment) to the shot of the fence, which automatically equates to jail in my mind due to anime overuse. That said, I had issues with the character art and composition in that they either wouldn't or couldn't match up to the beautiful background art. Now whether that's due to a limitation in the character designs or something, I don't know. It's just at a sizable number of times, the characters really stood out in conjunction to the backgrounds. That said, the character art isn't bad or anything but just not at the same level as the scenery around it, for the most part. The crowds also looked dead at times at the festival but I know how hard it is to animate crowds, so I'm not holding that against the movie. As for the OST, I thought it was poor going on and bad at times. There were a few pieces that felt completely out of place and some instruments were timed fairly poorly for their placement.
The story was relatively simplistic and, unfortunately for me, felt like an extended episode rather than something I would want out a movie. Part of the issue is that they telegraph the
reset
way in advance and you know exactly where the movie is heading when Rin states
I want to keep him as another brother
. I literally yelled out loud "Nope" because any time someone says that in a movie/episode/special which is anime original, something is getting the
axe or a reset
. I did like the story in general and I thought the relationship between Rin and Usamaro was touching in that it harkened back to Rin's relationship with his foster dad to an extent. Usamaro was also extremely cute in many of the scenes, even early on when he was acting feral. I think the film did a great job anchoring their relationship.
