Always knew you were a man of refined taste. Sakura has probably my favourite witch design from anything.
It would be for the 2013 series yes. But I hope someone is going to make me a better offer than Strike Witches.

Yyyyyyep, we're into the endgame now all right. With all four Kings (well, three Kings and oneKanna Princess) gathered, plus crowns of their own for Coco and Nuts, everyone's finally set to go to the Cure Rose Garden! The door is open, now all that's left is to...er, not let Anacondy kill Flora. Because that would be awkward. C'mon, even the Big Bad doesn't want that.

Encouragement of Climb
Heartwarming stuff. Although there's not really much new here, given that break-the-socially-awkward-person-out-of-their-shell is well covered ground, I appreciate the way it's presented. The 3-minute per episode time limit forces them to be concise, and prevents any dwelling on the resistant, wish-washy behaviour you might expect from the main character in a story like this; instead it feels like Aoi's growth is continual, rather than meandering. The mountain metaphor is a good excuse for some nice scenery and the use of, what I imagine at least, is a group of hobbyists that are potentially as friendly as they're being depicted. Since I'm not super outdoorsy, I actually get a kick out the preparation and technical stuff for outdoor activities in TV shows and the like, while being unable to fault any inaccuracy. Call it living vicariously.
The show even has a useful childhood friend, and I liked the couple of scenes from her perspective, that give some background to the way she introduces herself and why. Visually, everything is really consistent, nice to look at and frequently pretty cute. I'm generally impressed that the show felt so worthwhile with such a short amount of time to work with, and isn't throw-away gags with no continuity like Seki-kun or something. Not that I don't enjoy that, it's just interesting to see something like this done successfully with the format.
I think if you enjoy shows that are simple, fun and just meant to make you happy, you'll probably enjoy this. At the end I felt not unlike I did after finishing Tamayura, although there's not as much sentimentality at the conclusion here.
Shout out to whoever mentioned the show in the AOTY vote thread, which is the reason I watched it.

Finally, we got to see the Porn in Space Game, and it's just as insane as it looks. Until getting sidetracked by a game of Rock Paper Scissors that brings to mind the game of shiritori in Kitakubu. It's the craziest variation of the game I've seen that doesn't involve reptiles or Leonard Nimoy. Speaking of, the teacher who is very obviously supposed to be Sean Connery and the King of Braves are both in this episode. Some of the most consistent laughs I've gotten out of an anime have come from this show. Roka is still adorable, and Takao is still boobs. And so it goes.

Really enjoying Arpeggio of Blue Steel, at first I thought the moe girl thing was a little weird but I actually really like all the ships having their own 'character'

It's been awhile since I posted this. I'm experimenting with Google Docs on it, to see if that doesn't make it more convenient that dumping two lengthy posts on it.
Please note that while a rank does reflect my stance on one show's quality versus another, within a rank it does not. Shin Mazinger Z warrants an "Excellent" from me, but this does not mean I consider it to be a better Mecha show than other Mecha shows within the "Excellent" rank. Oh, and as a random aside - during the Cures' little fight with Anacondy at the beginning of the episode, she summoned the same Hoshiina she used when they fought her previously, many episodes ago! Is that even allowed?! I mean, a dragon made out of lightning is a pretty cool concept, so I can't blame her for wanting to reuse it, but still!
Well, that didn't go too well.
Thanks to Momoi-san's interference, the Eternal leader got wind of what was going on, and summoned the Cures and Anacondy to face him. Turns out Anacondy has been trying to keep her master away from the Cure Rose Garden all this time because she knows he's crazy about Flora and she wants him all to herself. Silly villains, love is for good guys. Villainous love never ends well.
So yeah, Big Boss Guy tells Anacondy to add all the Cures to his "collection", which she does by turning them all into stone. So, uh, that kind of sucks (and I don't just mean the animation when she was petrifying them). The one ray of hope is that since he only asked for the Cures, she didn't petrify Milky Rose. You'd think he'd ask her to take care of that one, too. Especially if he was about to, you know, murder her immediately afterwards. Which he did. Silly Big Bad, don't murder your petrifying machine when there's still an enemy to petrify.

Managed to not read the spoiler! Were you fine with the CG from the beginning or did you get used to it as you kept watching? Every time people talk about it, I think about how it sounds like my kind of show, but I tried watching the first episode and really wasn't a fan of the CG.

When I saw a 'similar' art style used for that Iron Man show I hated it.
It was a little weird in the first episode, and there are a couple awful shots every once in a while later on but it works.
Guess it helps blend the characters etc in with the CG boats and such which can be jarring at times in other series.
The style kinda works for the ship girls imo
Some shots you can hardly tell the characters are that style, just took me a little while to get used to it.
Poor, poor Tessa. If you think Tessa's no good, wait'll you meet Girl #5.

It's hard to tell because I'm watching this so spaced out, but the segments felt longer in this episode. Death is kind of the theme of the last one, getting brought up conversationally multiple times and then used as a surprisingly sweet cap on the episode. The structure just felt stronger overall and proves the show can mine for content as well as rapid fire it.
The flashback about Yui and Yukari was really adorable, and it's nice to see some effort put into fleshing out the girls relationship. Funny that it started out with a kind of mutual infatuation, what with most of the affection being directed at Yui in the present day.

So,
as it turned out, Milky Rose being left unpetrified was almost completely pointless, since she wasn't able to do a damn thing. She couldn't get past the Big Bad's seal into the Eternal building (instead Bunbee, of all people, got them inside!) and once inside, she wasn't able to do anything to de-petrify them (that one was solved by Syrup's pure heart with a bit of help from a magic seed). Soyeah, Big Bad's decision to leave Milky Rose alone justified, I guess!
Thanks to the power of Syrup's heart, though, the Cures were able to power up with shiny butterfly wings, and I have to say it was pretty satisfying to see all five of them ganging up on the final boss, using all of their special attacks one after another without any stock footage involved. We're not talking Splash Star penultimate episode levels, but it was still pretty slick.
And then of course the final boss had to reveal his TRUE FORM, which basically just meant taking off his cool armour, so he doesn't look quite so awesome any more. =/ That makes another villain with nothing interesting hidden behind the mask! Is this a thing in Yes Precure 5 now? The Big Bad of the first season had a suspicious mask with nothing interesting hidden behind it, as well!

Well, 5 episodes in, time to draw some conclusions. Honestly, funny jokes about the ridicule terminology in the show, I guess I'm kinda... enjoying it?
It won't certainly win any award for the originality, but that's probably one of its stronger points. It's a by-the-book mecha, it doesn't try to be the new Geass or create a plot rich of suspense, it's just happy to do simple stuff and it does them rather well.

Do you have the guts to raise your sword at a girl who is in your path, reluctantly fighting you because protecting the grave of another dear friend is still more important to her than letting you proceed on your quest?
Can you leave aside your old alliance and view her as an enemy?
Can you look at a limping, gravely injured wolfgirl, who barely has the strength to keep up with you despite her much larger size?
When she falls on her side while swinging her large sword with her last remaining strength, and gathers all her willpower together to do anything other than lie there on the grass and bleed, can you take advantage, and end her life?
CAJUN! What is more important, killing a deranged god, or preserving moe!?
You've never seen Hades Project Zeorymer? It has pretty good hand-drawn mechanical designs, is just 5 episodes long, and its story is only kind of terrible. Plus, if you've played SRW J you're already familiar with the characters.
