Man they are REALLY leaning into the fujos now, but I think they are leaning into it so hard it wraps back around to being a joke.
haha, we've spurred on massive amounts of gross incest porn, haha. great joke. can't stop laughing.

Monogatari Second Season 7 & 8

Oof. I love time travel stuff. Honestly it could be the stupidest & most cliched thing ever, but if it involves time travel I'll probably love it so the last two episodes have got me really excited. Plus the more Shinobu the better. She's fast becoming my favourite character.

Overlord 5 & 6

I don't trust this kid or his grandma, at all. Psycho killer chick is annoying.

Hmm, there's really not much to be said about this show, to be honest. It's entertaining and fun, but plot and everything is party minor so far.

Hai to Gensou no Grimgar - 03
I like all the attention to menial tasks like cooking. They don't just put one character in front of a pot moving it and that's it. This is the opening scene of the third episode:

In a way it shows a love for something as mundane and as close to us as the art of cooking that makes the fantasy world feel incredibly close to our world.

I like that the silly anime moment of Ranta trying to peek at the girls actually wasn't forgotten and it affected how the story continued for the first part of the episode. Other moments like the rain scene where they are worried because they didn't win money, or the exploration of the city where they enjoyed mapping out unexplored areas worked pretty well, too.

I also like you can notice why they have so many problems being adventurers: they are normal people, surely students, teachers, engineers, cooks, nurses, whatever. They don't have their memories, but they have their previously pacific personalities.

The bad part, as others have mentioned,
it's the heavy foreshadow at the end. before I already thought someone was going to die soon, but it's so clear that Priest guy has the biggest chances.

All those cryptic comments about Golden Time... :(

Osomatsu-san 16

I like the series a lot when they change their style to the more common one, but...I'm not sure. What the hell did I just watch? lol

Me and my fiancee caught up on Grimgar/Buranki yesterday and celebrated the fact that we managed to get not one, but two (very light scene spoilers)
bath scenes
without excessive fan service! Progress!

Really enjoying Grimgar's setting and tone, but the experience is really marred by the fanservice (especially Thief master from Ep1, good god) and related plot points. It's sad because otherwise it would be something I could actually recommend.

Where do these Monogatari short stories fit in the timeline?

All over, but they move in chronological order of the girls (Hanekawa -> Senjougahara -> Hachikuji) so far. There's 12 stories, one for each month so it should go Kanbaru, Nadeko, Karen, Tsukihi, Shinobu, Kagenui, Ononoki, Gaen, Ougi...or something like that. After Nise I get lost on the timeline but its def those 12

They're all over it. The first one was after Kizu, before Bake. The second one was after Hitagi Crab. Roughly, they take place each month in the timeline, starting with April.

Ok thanks. Suppose I will think less about the order then and just watch them!

Osomatsu - 16

I enjoyed the impersonation skit a lot, and how it kept escalating. I hope they visit it again but with different sibling combos.
The other one was alright. Didn't find it particularly funny but I did like the Mad Max stuff!

Arararagi's mother also appears at the ED. I hope one of the stories is about her.

Honestly the best show of the season can either go to Rakugo or Erased.

It really depends on whether which one doesn't shit the bed. Unless both end up being consistently good.

Tonari no Kaibutsu Kun(My little monster) 1-2

This is an unusual show so far. Its kind of like the first 2 episodes set you up to somewhat dislike the two main characters in a romance. Why would you do that?

I appreciate that the characters are so quirky and unusual that they do at least make the show interesting so far. But the danger is they're really hard to like. Id rather take a generic stock character that's written well than a completely off the wall character that just dosen't work.

But they get together pretty quickly and have a few cute moments so I do want to see what direction that goes in.

I still have mixed feelings about this one, but, it's a unique experience for sure; frustrating though.

Something's definitely up with Aniplex lately. Previously, a bunch of NISA's Aniplex licenses were expiring. Now, Funimation has lost the license to both Darker than Black and Baccano. There was a column on ANN speculating that they're not allowing the licenses to be renewed, so it's possible that Aniplex is planning on streaming or re-releasing them themselves. I wouldn't mind seeing their Baccano BD back in print, honestly, I missed it the first time.

Funi lost the rights to Baccano as well? Interesting to hear. I got the Anime Classics release only a month ago and I didn't think they would lose the rights not long after.

The problem with Baccano and Darker than Black reverting back to Aniplex is that the releases by Aniplex might not contain Funi's dub.

And Baccano's dub is god tier.

Didn't the Baccano BD's include the dub? Sounds like Aniplex might be able to use them again for a reprint.

I just found out about Baccano today. I wouldn't be surprised to see more Aniplex licenses held by other companies return to Aniplex across the year or so.

Aniplex's BD release had Funimation's dub on it. In fact, they own the dub and the subtitles that they made. In a similar manner, while Bandai did the dub of Gurren Lagann, Aniplex was free to use their dub on their BD release of the series. That's generally how things work with licenses. Of course, there are exceptions, though I couldn't name one off the top of my head.

BRAVO BASED PHONE APP SHAFT. Well, the rest of the episode was just normal monogats with people standing and talking and not Teekyu crack so it looked fine but BRAVO SHAFT

Kaerimichi is great. The best part of Koyomimono is probably all the reused OPs.

Yep, I am totally lost on the timeline now. Hachikuji ep, Oshino is gone, Hanekawa has short hair so this must be...after Tsubasa Cat. Or something. I kind of wish this was just two people talking to each other because these mini mysteries aren't engaging at all.

Shirayuki 15

That was a good episode *snaps fingers*

Watching Raj is hilarious, the dude is so awkward. It is nice to see him learning to be a better person though. At that last part, I have to wonder why else, other than her red hair, they want to capture Shirayuki.

With Aniplex licenses being pulled from other companies, what's in danger of going out of print? Since I'm procrastinating, I spent way too much time finding out. With Baccano and Darker Than Black gone, here's a list of titles that were licensed from Aniplex of Japan, and are still in print, as far as I know:

Funimation:
Birdy the Mighty: Decode
Black Butler seasons 1-3 (Season 3, being recent, is likely safe for now)
Fullmetal Alchemist/Brotherhood (plus all OVAs and movies)
Guilty Crown
Sekirei seasons 1 and 2
Shiki

Sentai Filmworks:
A-Channel
Angel Beats
Guin Saga
Hell Girl (seasons 2 and 3)
Inu X Boku SS
La Corda d'Oro: Primo Passo
La Portrait de Petit Cosette
Mardock Scramble (movies 1-3)
Night Raid 1931
No. 6
Persona 4 the Animation
Rurouni Kenshin: New Kyoto Arc
Tsuritama
Xam'd

If you really like any of those, and would like to own them on DVD or Blu-Ray, you should plan to buy them in the near future. While titles on here that aren't as popular might stay longer (or indefinitely) there's a chance that the more popular titles may go out of print in the near future.

Everything else is worth passing on.

You know, I'm actually surprised you don't have Black Butler on your list. I thought you would have liked that show.

As for me, I have Tsuritama and Cossette, so I'm covered. I don't feel like I need to own discs of any of the others.

I've never watched Black Butler.

Isn't the main relationship between a demon and a young boy? Isn't their relationship portrayed as abusive? Akin to a Faustian bargain?

I've only seen the first season, so I can only comment on what I saw in that. It's a Faustian bargain in that Ciel will have to pay with his soul for Sebastian's services, though I'm not sure anything I saw in the first season was really abusive. It seemed more like them annoying each other every now and then with rude comments and suggestions.

The demon's supposed to be a caretaker/butler, but they're more like partners (not in a relationship way). As for it being abusive, not really. They're both terrible, evil people with the kid actually being MORE visibly evil despite the demon being, well, a demon whose purpose is to be evil.

No idea about the anime though, and I dropped the manga at like the 60-70 chapter mark. Just didn't jive with me how sympathetically they were trying to portray these awful people, on top of it getting pretty boring.

This is probably the absolute worst thing I've seen when it comes to the portrayal of women in a long time. I get that the entire main cast is supposed to be fairly inept, but this show really goes out of its way to portray its leading women as completely worthless and incompetent. They truly have nothing to offer to the group. They have no control or agency. They are not assertive and don't seem to have much of a say on anything. I want to say that literally almost every time they take spotlight the series also shifts its focus to sex. It goes so far beyond the leering camera shots.

This is something said very plainly without any further commentary:

The only Black Butler I've seen is Book of Circus (2014) and that was surprisingly good.

Pretty well-executed mystery, interesting character dynamics and a reasonable way to handle some relatively disturbing material.

I haven't had the time nor the will to get into the rest of the property, but I do recommend that as an effectively stand-alone story arc.
