Green Green main series [END]
Okay, I'm not gonna get into the specifics of this show since I only really paid real attention during the last few episodes.
I'll just say this, the stuff involving the 3 idiots (which is a majority of the screen time) is shit of the highest caliber. Its crass, pointless, and horrible. Beyond Juvenile.
Petty excuse for ecchi or comedy.
None of the characters outside of the main 4 (that being the love triangle and the cockblock) have much to do with anything, and honestly the show suffers every minute they are on screen (which is, again, the vast majority of the time.)
Then you have the love triangle story line. It doesn't really kick in properly until the later episodes and even then it just feels like a very bad and blatant VN. You can hear from the dialogue someone making flag choices. It felt lazily done tbh.
Lets get into how fucking stupid the premise is though. So you have 2 lovers who kill themselves, they are reincarnated, one in the future and one in the present, the one in the future goes back in time to be with her love, but there's another girl he might have his eye on.
VN tripe.
honestly, the only good thing this series gave me was that I was able to finish my Spring avatar. That was nice.

It starts off normal enough. Dumb ass trio being shitty and bogging everything down as usual.

And I checked, made by the same studio and everything.
It was so sudden a shift too.
I was sitting there awestruck when it happened. A head bobbing up and down so suddenly. No warning. I had to make sure I was watching the correct thing at first. Then it just kept going. Thank goodness the MC is a quick shooter.

Digimon Adventure: Our War Game
I was meaning to watch this again for a long time now. I think it's fairly obvious that the Digimon Tri movies are, so far, trying to look like these older movies. Similar artstyle, more focus on the characters and what's happening outside of the Digital World etc...
It's a really cool movie, mostly about my two favourite characters in Digimon Adventure. And funnily enough, the best thing in it, isn't the Digimon or the battles, but Koshiro's and Taichi's hilarious interactions, trying to solve the problem. Oh, and Taichi's mom being completely oblivious to what is happening, serving tea and baking a cake. Moreover, I liked that this was focused on some of the characters only, while the others were struggling with their own "problems". It managed to keep them relevant without having them to do much, a more realistic approach to the characters than the usual trope of everyone playing their part in defeating the enemy. Also, I forgot that Joe already had problems with school since then, poor guy.
The fights with the Digimon looked pretty nice too. And I'm really digging the style choice for the Digital World and I liked how it could be monochromatic and the next moment full of colours. The antagonist in this movie is a weird case, as it wasn't exactly evil. Even when it had the clock for the nuclear strike, it seemed like it was still playing. I can't call it "neutral" though. The finale of the battle was pretty awesome, but I hoped for more Omnimon action. Still really good though, and if I'm not mistaken this was Omnimon's first appearance.
Another thing I liked is all of those older computers, Windows 98, all that effort in order to connect to the internet... It really shows a very different technological era. They nailed even the infinite amount of windows in the computer.
Overall, it's a pretty nice movie, with a neat artstyle and good character interactions, these being the main reasons to watch it. I'd say that it stands pretty good on its own, without prior knowledge of the franchise, but probably it's better to know a few things. And while I don't have a problem with how Digimon Tri looks, considering they're movies too, it's a shame, as it could have been so much more.

This movie was my childhood! I must have watched it a hundred times and I still do up to this day. Everything in that movie and the first one is just perfect in my nostalgic heart.
Also this movie always looked so good! loved the animation so much.
I think the last time I watched it was about 10 years ago. I had the wrong assumption that it wouldn't be as good as I used to remember, but I was really impressed by it, because it's even better. It's almost 15 years since its release and it still holds up pretty well.

Takaaki Yamashita did a excellent job overseeing the character designs here (and would go on to be important for most of Hosoda's future work up to the present).
He didn't write any programs for this, just forwarded all of the e-mails to it.
I'll watch this one too later today. I doubt it will be as enjoyable as the second movie, but it should be very different than anything else in the Digimon series.
No wonder it reminded me of Hosoda's works.

Welp. The whole explanation from the teacher about his special ability was what I feared about the show eventually introducing other strange abilities besides Satoru's. The episode was transparent as hell with the teacher going to meet Satoru after he finally awoke from his coma, some cryptic stuff about the clinic (which had ties to the teacher) possibly using Satoru to do some kind of experiment, and the teacher taking him to an abandoned part of the clinic and eventually to the rooftop without Satoru even questioning what the hell he was doing.
The ending was yet again a really forced cliffhanger, so whatever... seriously, this show started nice but has become more and more of a trainwreck after ep 5.
On the topic of Hinazuki marrying one of Satoru's friends I honestly agree that making her into Satoru's predestined waifu/trophy would've been an even worse move, but as it is it's like the show only did what it did with her in order to make the audience feel bad for Satoru or something. It's kind of funny that she went to live with her grandmother who-knows-where but she somehow ended up meeting one of Satoru's friends again somehow and they became a couple. Of course it was plausible, but it feels like a very forced way to make it like "not only did Hinazuki end up with someboy other than Satoru, but her partner was... one of his childhood friends!".

The Oorai event today was also super successful again with over 30k visitors more than last year. And the GuP movie performance is just incredible:

He was also episode director for episode 21 of the original adventures which is such a leap in production quality and tone from everything else in the series it feels like it belongs in a completely different show.

I like good sports anime and I bet I'm liking this. Wanted to keep it for later but y'all make me hungry for it.
Besides, what's that ~50 episode battle shounen Nintendoman and Hossanai were watching? Sounded promising, too.
There's too much good anime out.
I watched another episode and it was... solid.
Dunno, not my kind of humor. And I've seriously grown tired of shaft using the same few voice actors in major roles in just about all of their productions.
I like good sports anime and I bet I'm liking this. Wanted to keep it for later but y'all make me hungry for it.

So I've been thinking about this, and while I don't want to pass complete judgment too early, I have to say that a couple of episodes into Yorkshin in Hunter X Hunter I have been very disappointed. Perhaps all the things I've heard about it have set my expectations too high, but right now I can't understand why it is held in such high esteem. Is it because a lot of people die? It's really hard for me to care about that when I didn't know any of these people dying until a few episodes ago at best. So many new characters have been introduced at the beginning of Yorkshin - Neon and her entourage, the Spiders, the Shadow Beasts - that it feels like the cast is suffering from serious bloat. A symptom of this is that Gon, Killua, and Leorio have been sidelined to a B plot that so far feels like a waste of time. Even Kurapika, for whom this should be a character climax, has felt marginalized. As far as all these new characters go, I don't find any of them as interesting as even Tonpa or Hanzo were in the Hunter Exam. Why should I care that the mafia's auction has been sabotaged? I don't know any of these mafia guys or care about their organization either way. Meanwhile, the direction has been average for the series, which isn't bad by any means but lacks the punch of episodes 7, 24, 28, 34, or 45. Even something like episode 38, a comparatively unimportant episode, was more compellingly presented.
While I have not seen the 2011 version of Yorkshin, I was linked this scene from it on Twitter, and I have to say that I prefer this to the corresponding version of this scene in 1999, something I did not expect I'd be saying. The Shadow Beast character designs are slightly improved, the music is vastly better (the choral piece in particular is entrancingly spooky), Uvogin's scream is stronger, and the brutality of Uvogin is better portrayed. I particularly like how in 2011 after Uvogin screams, the quill man looks stunned for a few seconds, then blood squirts out his eyes while his head collapses, then Uvogin catches him by his hairs as he falls, taunts his dead body, and flings him to the edge of the hole. In 1999 the quill man just slumps to the ground after the scream, which doesn't have as much impact.
Anyway, I really hope Yorkshin gets better, or this will be the biggest disappointment I've had in anime in a while.

With Durarara coming to a close, Takahiro Omori and his studio Shuka have time to make a fifth season of Natsume's Book of Friends for this fall. Kotomi Deai (Silver Spoon S2) steps up to be director, which is excellent news.
I'm surprised you're put off by Gon being sidelined as I thought it was rather inspired to do that rather than force him into a situation where he's entirely overmatched. Kurapika's the MC of Yorkshin and letting him be that rather than a supporting cast member who addresses his character arc rather than having the series MC do it for him felt really refreshing. I'm not sure how far in you are but I recall it being a somewhat slow start that really, really, really gets going once Chrollo and Kurapika begin taking action.

You should definitely give the 2011 version of Yorkshin a watch. At least some of the major important scenes, anyway. Whenever I hear people praise the 1999 version of Hunter X Hunter, they're always usually praising Killua's arc after the Hunter exam, and a bunch of other things before Yorkshin.
While that stuff may be true, I haven't heard anybody say anything about how the Yorkshin arc in the 1999 version is superior to the 2011 version. There's a lot of things in the latter that are very well directed, and the music during several key scenes is spectacular.

I mean I can't speak for the 1999 version but I think you should get more satisfied along the way. It's true that there's a lot of characters introduced but the Spiders ended up making for a rather compelling bunch and it obviously takes some time before you know them better. I'll certainly agree that there isn't much to the mafia. Rather serves as a plot basis for everything else.
Hisoka's wildcard-ish nature especially made for some fun dynamics.

This is HxH's constant modus operandi. You'll have to get used to it or just bear with it if you wish to continue.
Shadow Beasts were completely pointless addition. Just like quite a few other characters. With that said, if you're at Uvogin's fight vs Shadow Beasts (which was weak and pointless0, it gets or at least 2011 version got better. I wouldn't call it the apogee of shounen arcs as some do but it's pretty good and at the point where you're at, I'd say it barely even begun.

I don't mind Gon being sidelined per se, but it's a symptom of this arc losing focus that the 4 characters who we've followed up to now have all been overshadowed by the 50 new characters who have shown up, and the time that is spent on him feels pointless so far - just apparently a way to set up the Greed Island arc. I don't feel like Kurapika has gotten enough focus so far to call him a true main character of this arc. But yeah, I still have a bunch of episodes to go, so hopefully he gets more focus and the narrative becomes more compelling.

I love the Greed Island arc. It really nails the whole adventure aspect of the anime that I love, and Gon V.S. Genthru is one of my favourite fights in the entire show, just for how well-directed and satisfying it is.
That and I can't say I've ever seen a more intense dodgeball match in an anime after that arc.
