Started this a while back but never wrapped it up. Upon rewatching this episode: good stuff still. The odd, unique artstyle, the premise, the direction - it's a wonderful show. I do wonder what Mamoru Oshii's role was as 'supervisor,' though; hard to tell the extent to which he might have worked on it. Rough guess: not much, maybe frowning.

airship/Princess/Yukko's dream segments anymore. They're just so booooooooring. The eventual joke at the end is funny, but it shouldn't take over seven minutes of uninteresting crap to get there. Definitely the only low point of Nichijou for me

Wounded Man 5
So get this shit, the first ten minutes are about the Classic Army which is apparently compromised of Vietnam vets. Some army helicopters arrive to where they're hiding as police, waiting to ambush the Wounded Man, only for Indian Joe to shoot one down. It's explained him after the fact it was a ploy to break morale as the chopper's value was ingrained so deeply into the vets' psyche. The only way to prevent a riot? Indian Joe and his boss have to have a knife fight that sort of takes the vets back to Vietnam. Then they're sent home???
The Green Berets get taken captive and put on a god damn aircraft carrier that comes out of nowhere. They'll reveal the secret of GPX if everyone but the Wounded Man and one other leaves the carrier so they can have a proper 2v2 match. The prize is a tape recording with the Green Beret captain confessing everything he knows. The carrier is set to sink after a few hours, I guess, so there's a time limit! At some point, a bunch of traps were set up around the boat but I don't think any hint was given so it's just sudden traps out of nowhere after the fight begins. Consequently it was entirely action and no rape this episode.
The secret of GPX is fucking amazing though. It's like some Metal Gear Solid-level shit.
Overall, this was pretty awful. It did give me this so it has that much going:

GPX isn't just some mafia affiliated group that blackmails celebrities into making pornos. It's a god damn CIA front. The Wounded Man is told that the person behind it is no longer with the CIA for whatever reason so his revenge would have to be taken against the CIA or the USA itself. Whatever, he's game for it so long as he has that scar on his back. And you know, I'm not entirely sure if I interpreted this right, but to get his final revenge, he ends up the head of the CIA years later so he can take down the government from within.
Overall, this was pretty awful. It did give me this so it has that much going:

Wouldn't it have been easier to just pull it out? I'd imagine tensing the muscle would do quite a bit of damage.
Easier? Yes. Manlier? No. It's all about priorities.
That's far too fanciful for a grounded tale with a story that could be ripped from today's headlines.
The papers would never let a story like that reach the public. It's too REAL. The man would keep it suppressed. If the world knew of these events there would be millions, united against the government, all lead by one rapist.

I've never really been all that enamored with the character design for this franchise, but it was reasonably amusing so I'll keep watching for now. At first,

when they brought out the super-stereotypical delinquent students, I figured this was going to be another of those self-aware-but-boring parody shows, but things turned out to be a little different than they appeared, so maybe there's hope for me to enjoy this show.

It was rather in your face at times. If they drew another horizontal or vertical line it would probably be seen as lewd.
That's being saved for the Bluray.

The OP is a decent idea (scenes of people being shattered by the gun), but the execution makes the whole thing come out as a nonsensical mess. It's less painful than the initial Chuunibyou OP, but also much less memorable. The ED is also shit. Both are a huge step down from what they were doing before.
I'm surprised this episode chose to cut the forward momentum of what was happening for backstory stuff. Weirdly, I feel like the more I learn about the state of the world, the less interested I am in it. Everything is a lot more obviously cut-and-dry than I'd hoped. If the rehabilitation facilities aren't effective (I think the recorded voice repeating "Be sure to work on purifying your hue!" would drive anybody insane), then there are some pretty serious flaws with the system.

despite everything, this was pretty fun. Now onto the episode itself...
...the beginning is so voyeuristic but in that weird self-reflective way, knowingly so, and yet being meta about it is no excuse for mediocrity either. The whole codependency between Sasami and her brother is stated outright and it doesn't go anywhere beyond that. The whole thing is akin to a neo-nazi eating a bagel while carving a swastika into his forehead.
That action stuff later in the episode is bad, too, like most of sasami-san. There's never a good sense of location and all the 'action' things the characters do take place in a vacuum where they flail and twirl about with no relation to the environment around them.
So it's like, all kinda bad, and yet by the end I knew I'd watch more. Maybe I did go blind.
And yet she never turned away.
i really hope EP2 brings explanations for everything because it's intriguing but i'm genuilly confused by what they're trying to do.

(she always wears them. Its just pandering to bandage moe. She is a pander character to begin with)

Woohoo! Like I've said that Denpa Onna collection is awesome...I really love NISA's work. I've still got to pick up Bodacious Space Pirates. Halfway through it on Crunchyroll and it's quite enjoyable.
