Hey Minsc, great to hear from you again.
It's funny you mention anime on SPACE, because just this past summer I reviewed a bunch of the anime that aired on the channel for my "History of Anime on TV" panel at Anime Revolution in Vancouver. I'd like to do the panel again at another convention eventually, but you know, it's kind of hard to justify flying around the country just for silly things like that.
I am almost 100% certain that the movie being mentioned here is GoShogun: The Time Etranger (aka Time Stranger). The description is a bit off (the group had one female, not two), but this is the one that most people try to track down based on vague recollections. I know it certainly left an impression on me when I saw bits and pieces of it airing on the station (subtitled!) back when I was twelve, and I was overjoyed when I finally tracked it down and rewatched it. You can read more about it here:

A bit of trivia: Justin Sevakis (who wrote that article) worked for CPM at the time SPACE licensed those anime titles. I am almost certain that it is because of him that Time Etranger aired on the station. It's also kind of unfortunate, because while SPACE wound up airing a number of rare jewels, they didn't air anything that actually translated into good ratings or mainstream attention. It's kind of tragic that the premature, permanent death of anime on SPACE was caused by excessively high quality.
