it's p. odd seeing the national public broadcaster here intentionally troll kids on a kids channel

This...is amazing. This is trolling on an elite level. This kind of trolling is not adviseable due to risk of employment lol.

Thought it was artistic choice and actually more expensive to do that way.

Its Gainax. They pretty much do whatever the hell they want to. If they want to make a show set in a shopping arcade with dancing mushrooms , a cross dresser, and a parallel dimensional grandmother, they will fucking do it.

Sometimes it feels nice to realize there's a world of anime out there I've not yet seen.

One of those is from Goldenboy. 100% positive.

Lolololol, I can't believe they're putting Madoka on ABC. Until last Sunday it was Fruits Basket.

ABC3 has been showing anime lately? Man remember the glory days of Eva being shown 8:30PM Sat and then the next morning repeated at like 9:00am.

Where can I order a copy of the Chihayafuru soundtracks like RIGHT NOW?
I was just listening on youtube to a few of them and my love for the show came flooding back.

Here is my current 2013 AotY list so far:

1. JoJo
2. Polar Bear Cafe
3. Shinsekai Yori
4. Ixion Saga DT
5. Zetsuen no Tempest
6. Psycho-Pass
7. Aikatsu!
8. Boku no Imouto wa Osaka Okan
9. Puchimas
10. Robotics;Notes

Hm Im expecting mine to look something like.
1. Phi Brain S3
2. Blast of Tempest
3. Kuroko Basketball S2
4. Valvrave
5. Majestic Price
6. Uta no☆Prince-sama♪ Maji Love 2000%
7. Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo (wil remove if something bad happen to Kaworu or Shinji)
8. Cardfight Vanguard Asia Circuit
9. Suisei no Gargantia
10. K s2

Robotics;Notes is great though but 2013 has such great anime 2nd half of it and Psycho Pass would have to really up the stakes, or if PP removed Akane and focused more on the good stuff it could really have an explosive second half.

I've seen men in anime do the following:
  • Eat bowls of white rice while sniffing used female underwear for taste
  • Intercept the flem that disgusted women spit at them in mid-flight with their mouth and swollow it for sexual pleasure
  • Lick the drool of an attractive sleeping girl off the table she rested her head on because it was there

I'm guessing.

Green Green TV
Goldenboy
Mysterious x Girlfriend

The sad part is I'm either 100% correct or not too far off. :(

Pretty sure you're right. Only one I'd have to check is Green Green. I actually paid money to watch that too. Ten whole bucks. I may have spent too much.

I remember watching Green Green and I My Me! Strawberry Eggs after an amazing Love Hina back in '98~'99. Nearly lost all interest in anime.

I like Green Green. I thought it was pretty funny. Then again I am known by my friends for having terrible taste in anime and manga.

IMM Strawberry Eggs was ok. I enjoyed it but it was definitely mediocre.
Back then I was hungry for anime of all kinds so that probably clouded my view a little.
This is also probably why I have a favorable view of studios like Deen and Bee Train.

This was certainly something very different than what I'm use to as it's not often (if at all) that you see a story revolving around a female office worker nearing her 30's struggle with her work-life balance. Definitely a fresh breath of air after all the truly mundane shite I've been watching lately. I'm most certainly looking forward to where this show goes next as this first episode was pretty entertaining and did a really good job of setting up and hooking me in with the premise.

SHIGOTO MODE, ON! OTOKO SWITCH, IRI MASU!!!

Are you like, living in the future? I thought this was due to roll out next week.

Bad episode. Hyouka mysteries get flack for being mundane and boring but this makes the 'who was _______ in that ____ with the ___' episode look positively murderous. Enjoyed the first half, at least; later characterization enhanced enjoyment. Don't blame people for dropping the show at this point.

Still the anime of the year.

Would you even say that people should watch this episode for the sake of 'completeness' or should they just skip it all together?

They probably realized that meant banning all anime except Seikon no Kwazer and Queens Blade and Horizon and thought better of it.

On the advice of Duckroll, I am requesting aid remembering an old Anime movie I watched when I was young.

It aired on a Canadian TV station called "Space", during the late 90s. I can't remember if it was dubbed or subbed.

Vague description from memory:
Most of it took place in the desert, a group of mercenaries or ex-military(at least two females in the group). They did not wear formal military wear, was sort of like Cowboy Bebop dusters and survival gear. Seems like a post-apocalyptic setting with a mix of high and low tech(akin to Nausicaa).

This small group is wandering the desert with a tank, and find this old ruined city with a giant metal tower/castle at its center. City is mostly mud huts, but get progressively more advanced the closer to the tower, with many being built out of salvaged metal.

They find this place, and after wandering into the city all hell breaks loose. Flying things from the tower attack, they are not typical machines, they look something akin to an Eva or something out of guyver. Shoot-out proceeds while they try to flee to the tower to hide.

Animation style was very close to Dominion Tank Police movies.

What it's not:
Eat Man
Spriggan
Big Wars
Crystal Triangle
Venus Wars
Desert Punk
MD Geist

Here's what I've dug up folks.

Hey Minsc, great to hear from you again.

It's funny you mention anime on SPACE, because just this past summer I reviewed a bunch of the anime that aired on the channel for my "History of Anime on TV" panel at Anime Revolution in Vancouver. I'd like to do the panel again at another convention eventually, but you know, it's kind of hard to justify flying around the country just for silly things like that.

I am almost 100% certain that the movie being mentioned here is GoShogun: The Time Etranger (aka Time Stranger). The description is a bit off (the group had one female, not two), but this is the one that most people try to track down based on vague recollections. I know it certainly left an impression on me when I saw bits and pieces of it airing on the station (subtitled!) back when I was twelve, and I was overjoyed when I finally tracked it down and rewatched it. You can read more about it here: http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/buried-treasure/2007-01-18

A bit of trivia: Justin Sevakis (who wrote that article) worked for CPM at the time SPACE licensed those anime titles. I am almost certain that it is because of him that Time Etranger aired on the station. It's also kind of unfortunate, because while SPACE wound up airing a number of rare jewels, they didn't air anything that actually translated into good ratings or mainstream attention. It's kind of tragic that the premature, permanent death of anime on SPACE was caused by excessively high quality.

Here's an AMV (it's damn hard to find a video for this movie) of what appears to be the climax of the film which may jog your memory.

Hope this helps Motion. :) Even if it isn't the title you're looking for I'm going to have to check this out as it sounds and looks interesting.

Meh I kinda.. uh liked Love Hina shortly after it aired... don't look at me like that, I was young! The manga was much better though...

Crest of the Stars (Sekai no Monshou)

Since it was in the episode preview her seiyuu wasn't listed in the credits but it definitely sounded like Ayako Kawasumi, whom many people would know as the voice of Saber in Fate/Zero. I always liked her voice acting and wanted to hear more of her and while I'm sure she's probably been cast in many animes, all the one's I've seen so far she's either not in or more of a smaller support role character, sans the before mentioned Fate/Zero, so personally I thought that was another plus.

Ayako Kawasumi used to be everywhere... she used to get lead character/female and main female roles all the time. But like all seiyuus her time passes (or should I say marketbility is down) and the only main roles she gets this days are in sequels to shows she's already got those roles for. Her only main role of 2012 was Saber and she was casted as her back in 06... same for 2011 with part 1 of Fate/Zero. Her role as Tomomi Saikyo from Ladies versus Butlers! from 2010 is probably the last main character role she actually "won" :(

If Hayate no Gotoku's anime production stops being stupid and finally decides to animate the best part of the manga she'll get a main character role in that show since she's credited too Athena from J.C Staff's season of Hayate. (Assuming it doesn't get recast of course)

In the end I really liked this first episode overall and look forward to the rest. As this isn't a currently airing show, taking a quick look it seems many enjoy the show so it's at least slightly reassuring that it won't turn badly. I personally may still end up not liking it but at least there a bit more of a guarantee there that it won't turn out badly unlike with what you encounter with a currently airing show.

I've only watched upto the 4th episode of the second season (Banner), it's really good stuff, hope you enjoy the rest of it.

*sigh*

Why does Queens Blade even exist? It makes me sad :( I'll admit, I thought it was hilarious when bunny girl was using her ear-hands to squirt acid milk... for like about five seconds till I realized my brain didn't like what my eyes was seeing. It wasn't that it was offensive (I can deal with offensive and certainly have watched raunchy shit) but seeing women squirting milk and pee while having the shit beat out of them just seemed like one step away from snuff porn. Not interested.

I can't lie. I watched Love hina in College. I started out in the Honors lounge there (and quit shortly after because frankly it was a bunch of hippy bullshit and elitism in there and I couldnt stand it any longer) and a guy brought some subtitled VHS tapes from god knows where and it was some of my first exposure to subbed anime. Needless to say it was so foreign and exotic I was immediately hooked and yes, I watched all of Love Hina because it was anime. After that I went on buying sprees. One of the first series in my collection was S1 and 2 of Inuyasha. I went up to about 54 episodes before losing all interest in it.
But it rekindled an interest in anime for me that began when I saw some dubbed tapes at my friends houses several years before. But thats how Love hina is almost directly responsible for my renewed interest in anime. I wish it wasnt that show but it is what it is.

Kinda scary that Koyomi doesn’t change modes when flirting with Hitagi… yet he changes instantly when he sees a lost little girl. Just because he’s not a siscon, it doesn’t mean he’s not into younger women.

“You better stop. You’re gonna get shot down.”

Ouch. Koyomi goes from mega-pimp to mega-dud faster than…

… Obama’s momentum on health care reform initiative.

… Michael Jackson going from creepy pedophile to beloved pop icon.
… a bottle of liquor left on F. Scott Fitzgerald’s desk.
… The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya 2009.
Jexhius... you introduced me to the weirdest blog I've ever read. I love all the jabs at Endless Night too lol.
What justice really needed to be done? Tsubasa Cat was the longest arc in Bakemonogatari. Some of the scenes in Nekomonogatari are very similar to that arc, but not quite as strong.
I guess we have different views then. I feel this is a great arc because it helps me understand what makes her unique in the grand scheme of aberrations, it really drives home how horrific her home life really is and it explains why the cursed cat acts out of character all the way up until Bakemonogatari. Before I just assumed it was a mischievous spirit, but there is clearly more under the hood than we previously knew. Really, the aberration's confession about Hanekawa's feelings is the only thing that Bakemonogatari's arc has over this one imo.
Shinobu, based band-aid. I want to watch more -monogatari for hachikuji (she's still in this, right?) and band-aid, but I still can't be bothered... If only I liked the show.
Hopefully we see more of her in the second season. She makes for some great laughs and I like that she is more of a guide to Araragi than everyone else now that Oshino is gone. With some luck it'll involve Hachikuji and Senjougahara at the same time. The snail arc is the only arc that comes close to the crab arc.

Great reaction
Nekomonogatari part 2 & 3
Now this is what I am talking about. More serious discussions and situations.

Gotta give Shafts credit for making westerns cartoon references when I don't see that in other studios.
Powerpuff girls reference is the best. I totally didn't expect that.

im not going to be ranting for long. something is going to change. a lot of people gonna lose there jobs - they shouldnt have them in the first place. Half these motherfuckers were better off in brazzars or whatever the fuck they go by than a dubbing appratius.

I guess for the sake of completeness, even though I'm not sure if they will return, there are some like Tiff who used to be Legendary_Warrior about a couple of years ago. Lurky was originally named something else when first getting here but I can't remember what it was now and it was only for a few posts as well so I suppose it doesn't matter.

Never doubt of the attraction pull of /ak/! We consume any kind of related information about the series like... let's use this simile... 'maná' from heaven. Also, those .GIFs of Aim for the Top!
