Man that was a chore to get through. I mean I've actually felt the drama shtick wasn't half bad even since the beginning of the show. I thought the main characters were enjoyable if a bit flat and the voice acting was really well done for the most part. It never really felt "forced" to me (though I'll be the first to admit I'm probably a lot more lenient on these kind of things than others) but just something about this particular arc (I guess the whole Iori thing mostly) really dragged it down for me. Eh I guess it was kind of worth it to see

In the "free videos" crunchyroll theft section there is a kind of cool anime I've never heard of called Rio - Rainbow Gate. It looks kind of interesting so far. Its set in some kind of world where casinos are a really big thing and there is this girl named rio who works at one and they call her the Goddess of fortune and she apprently brings luck to the gamblers. she also has a really mean drop kick. I think I will research this show. Its by Xebec so everything is really colorful and there is some fanservice and a lot of :chet.
Folks, I think we may have stumbled upon another "so bad its good" anime here. Will have to watch more to know for sure.

"I don’t detect any cynicism whatsoever from Rio, everything comes off as so honest that I can’t help but love it (albeit ironically). We have a show made by a fairly decent staff (many of whom had previously worked on the surprisingly competent Pandora Hearts) working with a fairly good budget in order to spin an anime series out of pachinko games, and what I’m going to assume happened is that Xebec was just told to do anything they felt like doing, and that’s exactly what they did.

In my experience bias based on art style tends to fade around 2 episodes in to any given series if the storytelling is strong enough

The generalized version of what you're saying is that elements you like in a show can make up for elements you don't like, which is true, but the more you hate one element the stronger the others have to be to counteract it.

Character design is in your face the entire time, so it can have a pretty big impact (for me personally, it's probably the most important element in an anime). Above a certain level of hatred for it, it's probably better to just read the novelization instead of watching the anime, if it's claim to fame is purely storytelling rather than elements unique to video (animation, voice acting, music, whatever).

Can someone please give me a list on whats cannon and whats filler, I swear the filler I've watched so far out weighs the cannon at least 4:1 I don't even remember what canon looks like anymore so am not sure.

I've never seen a shounen anime that starts with this much filler since fma 1.

It appears that when she plays a game, tournament style, she has to get married to it first, dress and everything. Well thats interesting. There are random bunny girls everywhere too.
there is also this little girl with weird dead eyes that seems to take a liking to Rio. The dude who was playing against Rio seems to have wanted the little girls stuffed bear thinking it was some rare item, but nope its a fake made in china. tough luck mr gambler!

the very first season was xebec and it was so bad the anime continuity was never adapted afterwards...

AS for rio teh raibow gate it was a fun anime but not good fun .. i honnestly can't tell you why i watched them all other than the casino manager was a funny guy and that the premise was ridiculous to an extreme degree ..
the anime at least knows that it shouldn't become too serious.

Part of me was tempted to skip this episode. But man, it ended up being possibly the funniest episode yet.

Haha, in yo face, Sayoko. Tryin' to take on Belldandy in a singing competition. She sang "Open Your Mind" too! Fucking seizures! Though the English version isn't quite as lovely as the Japanese version. But still. And she even made you her bitch at drinking! I hope Sayoko vomiting on people and humiliating herself becomes a running joke. Speaking of alcohol, Urd is a drinking champ . I'll just assume she's like Bender from Futurama, which is good, cause that makes Urd even more amazing.

Then came possibly the greatest moment in television history: drunk Belldandy. Well, I'm not sure if I would call it drunk, but she clearly wasn't functioning normally. She tries to spread happiness to everybody, but she...struggles with granting some of them. Giant Hasegawa and sole plate are evidence of that. But she brought plenty of happiness to that kitten (OH GOD THE SCENE WITH THE KITTEN FUCKING KILL ME NOW I NEEDN'T LIVE ANY LONGER) who was hungry. Also, haha at the scene with Mara. The villain from the first season returns only to have Belldandy make her collapse off a telephone pole and seemingly mocking her. This show really revels in making the shitty characters suffer. I approve of that.

I really liked the capsule arc. I thought it was probably the strongest run of the show, but it's also been great all around.

Gonna need a couple of rewatches because the final episode contained a ridiculous amount of dialogue imo. All I follow is that Araragi definitely doesn't love the class rep and she is miserable as hell. I'm a bit tired so that probably had an impact on my ability to follow the fast flow of this episode.

What a great anime. I wasn't too fond of the heavy usage of puns and references jokes when I first started, but as I kept watching I really grew fond of the randomness and the characters. I also enjoyed checking out this blog that wonzo linked just to see what references I missed.

Now that this is done, time to move on to the next anime in my backlog, Teekyuu.
