[Nekomonogatari Kuro]
doesn't Shinobu's energy drain scene differ from the one we've seen in Bakemono already?
You mean, the flashback in... episode 11? I think?
The original novel didn't describe what happened exactly during the Golden Week. Merely that Hanekawa was having some cat issues, and those had been somewhat resolved, in good part thanks to Shinobu. Presumably, the anime staff thought they had to show something though, so they elaborated from that. But then, the original author released Nekomonogatari Kuro, and unsurprisingly, he had his own version of those events...
Basically, that flashback in the TV adaptation of Bakemonogatari is no longer canonical.

K-On!! 04

Field trip episode.
This episode was really well executed. Accurately portrayed the fun and excitement of a long distance field trip. The girls of course being the high energy crazy bunch they are drove Sawako mad the whole time. Its so accurate its ridiculous. I would love to visit those shrines and other historical sites in rural Japan at some point in my life. Seems like such a fascinating place steeped in many traditions. You can really tell the staff who worked on K-On loved what they do. You can feel that they really gave a shit about making the best experience possible here.
9CESc.gif

Well it's not really rural Japan, since all of that stuff is in Kyoto...
Still, the accuracy is great - it's always a little surreal seeing places that I've actually visited rendered in an episode of anime. Tsuritama and all the other recent shows taking place in Enoshima gave me the same sort of feeling, too.

(Also, with it being Kyoto Animation, they'd damn well better get famous sites in Kyoto right, haha)
Haha, yeah. Though the place the go to school and live is also based on areas around Kyoto, so I guess they didn't travel to far away. lol
K-ON! 1

Well that's inoffensive so far.

K-ON! 2

Good lord @ Mugi's eyebrows. Tetsuo Hara would be proud. I like to believe Mio has crippling social anxiety as well. This is sort of pleasant as something to chill with.

K-ON! 3

Yui's studying habits bring back terrible memories. buncha food porn up in this too.
I'm really glad you decided to try this out. It only gets better from here on out!

This episode would have been a lot shorter had the girl from the Duck Team realised she only had to fire straight in front of her to win. Miho aside, these girls have very little in the realm of common sense.
??????????

How is she a neet?
Meant to say otaku. Wires crossed, my bad.

-monogatari series

I read this article a while ago; it's mainly about video games, but it also discusses how Japanese media in general is much more presentational (acknowledging or at least not hiding its fictional nature) compared with Western media, which is typically very representational (tries very hard to appear realistic). It's occurred to me lately that the -monogatari anime have been good examples of presentational works.

Part of it is visual. There's been some discussion in this thread lately about how no bystanders or extras are ever shown, and the world seems to consist only of the characters the story is actually about. Many of the settings range from the unlikely (the precariously balanced desk piles in the abandoned school) to the obviously impossible (the Araragi house interiors of Nise), which smack the viewer of the head with their otherworldliness and emphasize that these places are only a stage for this story to play out, and thus we need not be concerned with their physical plausibility or lack thereof.

But the more interesting part, at least in my opinion, is the behavior of the characters. They often seem quite aware that they are putting on a performance. Consider Hachikuji's mispronunciation routine, the way Araragi and Kanbaru trade gags, and Araragi's entire lolicon/siscon/general pervert persona. He goes out of his way to act like this huge freak but snaps back into normality when it counts, like he's putting on an act for someone else's benefit. Look at the first episode of Neko for two examples: First, during the conversation with Tsukihi, she scolds her brother for grabbing her chest, but mostly because he took the scene in the direction of physical comedy and ruined the joke she had planned to set up. Second, the scene where Araragi goes on at length about the possibilities of Hanewaka (who seems not to be in on it) offering to do anything, before asking her to just let him heal her bruise.

We discussed this before, but one possibility is that at close range it wouldn't hit because of the height. Remember what happened in ep4? I agree they should have tried though! Lol.

Girls Und Panzer 1-10

When I started this I only planned to watch 1-2 episodes but it pulled me in. Like the characters and the competitions. Sucks we have to wait for the conclusion.

5.5 didn't have much to it but 10.5 answers misc questions people had about the show, so you may want to watch that one. It's not like there's anything else to watch after 10!

Such as this:

I watched so much Girls und Panzer today I actually got sick of Girls Und Panzer. lulz

Like, I really like the culture around the tanks and somewhat like the tank battles, but the one in episode six drained me. Shit is good and bad, but mostly good.

There was fairly enough downtime for them to pull reverse and shoot, though.

Man, Kirito is so cool. He's got a cat loli, a big boobed elf lady AND his own cousin lusting for him. And he managed to do it with the personality of drywall. I wish I was as good at video games as him. The fight against red fairy man was pretty cool I guess. Probably the best in the series so far, but that isn't really saying much.

SAO gave me the courage to finally get rid of any useless career plans and ambitions and put all my strength and effort into pursuing MMORPG's.
I am still short on a harem though, just need to get a little better me thinks.

Honestly, I wouldn't even like to be remotely associated with the show. I just find it stupid pointlessness.

You know, I probably noticed this back then but forgot all about it... but that's such a good callback to the self-defence training they did in the OVA. lol

Just listen to the commentaries. The self-awareness of the characters is part of the gimmick; it's what makes the verbal sparring that much more enjoyable to me.

General anime question!!

In shows like Cowboy Bepop, Samurai Champloo, Fate/Zero, Ghost in the Shell, etc.
are the first 13 episodes considered season 1 and episodes 14-26 considered season 2??

if not, then what is generally used as the guideline to determine this?

It depends on how you want to define it. Sometimes the creators will treat the second half of a series as a second season (Rinne, Kimi to Boku, Natsume's Book of Friends, etc), even if it's part of the same production run. Usually though, these breaks are meant to give the animators time to catch up and gear up for a second run of 13 episodes - they're already planned as part of one "single" season.

Some shows are actually separate seasons in that their production was not planned from the beginning. Something like... say, Ika Musume season 2 would be an "actual" season 2.

Usually, multiple parts are only referred to as different seasons if there's a long time gap between their airings.

you never watched negima in anime ( before shaft came ) ????
..
the very first season was xebec and it was so bad the anime continuity was never adapted afterwards...

AS for rio teh raibow gate it was a fun anime but not good fun .. i honnestly can't tell you why i watched them all other than the casino manager was a funny guy and that the premise was ridiculous to an extreme degree ..
the anime at least knows that it shouldn't become too serious.

Well I did watch a tiny bit of the first Negima but it was boring. I was told by a friend that the second version with the "?!" in it was much better and it is, for what its worth. I'vel iked a string of Xebec shows: starting with Nadesico, Pilot Candidate, Bottle Fairy, DN angel, Stellvia and elemental Gelade, ToloveRU and motto ToLoveRU. You could say Im a bit of a fan of that studio.

There's nothing of substance at all, but I wouldn't call it a terrible show. You'll probably be glad you watched it.

Good to know. I believe the same. But its ANOTHER show to add to my list :/ Ill never ever finish my backlog!

The show gets very good near the end. There's also a surprise twist character you should be watching for (I wont spoil it for you).

Thanks. Seems several of you guys did in fact watch this show. Not sure how I missed it.

Thank you for bringing this to my attention.

No problem. Its absolutely over the top silly camp but its fun so far. Lots of well drawn errr assets. You will like Rio.

There is no general guideline. In general for anime seasons are usually what the people making it want to call stuff. It's all marketing anyway. Most of the time, the rule of the thumb is that if something airs continuously to the end, it's one season, regardless of how long it is.

In the case of Cowboy Bebop, it's just one show. In the case of Fate/Zero they aired the first 13 episodes as one season, went on a break, and came back later on with the remaining episodes as "Second Season". It was also sold as such. For Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex, the first season (or first series) is the 26 episodes consisting of the Laughing Man case. Later on a second season was produced about the Individual Eleven Case, and it is called Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex 2nd Gig.

Hope that helps!

Wow, Sword Art Online really is the smartest anime in years! A tentacle rape scene without censorship? That's true genius if I've ever seen it. It was so amazing I couldn't even focus on the hilarious cousincest dialogue or sudden furry paedophilia!

. It has been a while since I watched the anime/ read the first novel though.
