Goddamn Seraphis. You power blasted those eps and left us all in the dust! Must have been good.

So good. You're in for a goddamn emotional rollercoaster.

I...I don't think I can watch anything else for a while (except Kotoura and Mondaiji, since I'm kinda paying $7 a month to watch them, haha). It's going to take some time to get over Toradora.

Now that you've finished, do you agree with me that Minorin was the worst?

[Fresh Precure!] 02

If they wanted to avoid otaku ogling their panties then they should have just given them short shorts like later shows. Some shots, like this one, only make the underneath of their skirts look like diapers about to burst.

This is about the most fanservice I've ever seen in this franchise. Fitting that this character is also into
incest antics with her Key-tragedy porn brother
. And speaking of lewdness, what's up with the sudden bestiality angle? Goodness.

One more for :wonzo because this show is a goldmine.

Fresh is definitely the lewdest Precure series, though Sunshine is right up there with Berry in competing for the "smallest costume" award. I'm still bitter that Black's redesign covered her midriff, considering they went back to baring them in series after.

Spring better come soon; Winter has been a dud.
Au contraire, the lack of good shows this season has given me the chance to check a lot of stuff I always wanted to watch that I am thoroughly enjoying. It's incredible how much anime I am actually covering now that I'm not bogged by silly stuff like new releases.

Leave Sunshine's midriff alone!

I'll watch an episode of Koihime Musou today as penance if I can remember to!

This just serves to remind me to stay off the internet until I've had a few minutes to get my brain going.

Sounds good!

Alright episode overall, no docking though. :(

These Burning Fighting Fighter readings are getting extremely drawn out and progressively more unfunny than the last, though this episode was actually not as bad as a few others. Himecchi is best girl now.

While normally this would be true for me as well I haven't felt the same desire or energy to chomp through my backlog, although I have done a certain amount of that as well. I theorise that I am experiencing some burnout at the moment.

Y'know, otaku mahou shoujo do revealing outfits all the time because the main draw for most of those is the viewer getting off to the defilement of something that's supposed to be pure, but in the few instances they've been done in Precure it always kind of weirds me out because they sell character costumes to little kids and can you really imagine them dressing that way? Maybe they just have sheer flesh-tone layers of fabric or something, but I'm not brave enough to find out.

The franchise has mostly gone conservative in its costume design post-Heartcatch (and I prefer this approach), with the exception of Melody in Suite who Toei apparently thought they could minimize the impact of that skimpy cheerleader-esque costume just by never drawing her navel :lol I always kind of wondered what the deal with Sunshine's costume was since it's pretty much the last thing I imagine that
Itsuki
would ever feel comfortable wearing, but I guess it was a really unsubtle way of emphasizing that she'd finally embraced her femininity or whatever.

As in actually have plot progression and character development that doesn't get reset for the convenience of a joke?

This is one the reason why am unable to watch multiple episode of gintama and why it's taken me so long to get to ep 30.

There's zero progression being made, developments and all of it is like filler that's forgotten the very next episode.

There's no drive to want to watch the next episode thanks to the lack of meaningful plot.

I take Gintama as having two parts. In a sense they exist both together and separate from each other.

There are the one off episodes and arcs. These are here to provide enjoyment in the same way as an episode of The Simpsons or Family Guy. For these an overarching plot doesn't matter, the enjoyment is in the moment.

Then there are the more serious arcs. These are set up in a matter in which they could be viewed and enjoyed as standalone. There is character development and plot progression which is "reset" following the arcs conclusion. However this is not forgotten, the characters simply shift back to their episodic, never aging selves. The so-called reset development lays dormant, waiting to be revived at the correct time.

There was a time I tried to view the progression of Gintama's plot in the same vein as any other shounen. Sometime after the Yoshiwara arc I stopped. I realized and accepted Gintama does not follow the typical shounen mold and likely won't change until Sorachi finally decides to take Gintama in to the "end game"**. Now I enjoy the stuff as it comes and love it. Personally I'm enjoying this format more. It keeps the overarching story of Gintama from becoming convoluted.

** Assuming Sorachi bothers doing a grand endgame. :p

Edit:

You've only just made it past what most consider to be the weakest part of Gintama. :)

The short answer to this is that Umakoshi was sick of drawing little kids in witch outfits for who knows how many episodes of Doremi and felt naughty.

He had his chance to do that with adult females in Casshern Sins and yet (almost? I vaguely remember some character that looked like Sasorina) everybody is tastefully-dressed in that! Maybe he just likes junior-high girls...

Is this why Moonlight is the one Precure covered the most? Too old for him?

Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, now with some sleep:

Now that I've had a chance to sleep on it I've decided that the series is very good, but overall when compared to the first series it's kind of a draw. The below is just opinions, obviously.

What Brotherhood does better than the original:
The story and the fight scenes. The story is much better and more coherent. Well, as coherent as a story about magic alchemy can be, that is. ;P The motivations of certain characters makes a bit more sense, we learn more about Hoenheim and how he fucking plays into everything, and the progression of Ed and Al feels more natural. I also liked how the conclusion felt more... well, conclusive. I also highly enjoyed the fight scenes, super bad ass animation and choreography.

What Brotherhood does not do better than the original:
Overall the character artwork and animation are better in the original series, as well as the background paintings and music. Additionally the original had better pacing. Brotherhood was running full pelt almost non-stop until around episode 48 and then suddenly crawled for the next 16 episodes to draw out the final battles. It was too fast to begin with, and the sudden slow-down at the end creates a jarring pace.

Overall both series are quite good, and I do prefer BroHood by a smidgeon. But they're kind of a draw in terms of "which one is better".

Space hippie episode? Space Hippie episode! So this was the obligatory "Main character is impersonated and trying to lower his reputation" sort of episode. Not that bad, pretty enjoyable. Ending was nice!
Seems like Loran x Queen might have a future in the end.
Sochie seems to be trying to do something silly out of her jealousy though. That can't end well.

Suppose it's nice for a three minute show. One certainly can't accuse it of padding out episodes.

You are truly a scholar and a gentleman, Regulus.

More about Toradora 25, since I can't get it off my mind

The more I think about it, the more I feel like Taiga just taking off and transferring schools was...just so terrible. She didn't tell anyone, besides that note that she left for Ryuji (which we never got to read)...she just left. Maybe I'm just thinking too "emotionally" here, but...goddamn, Minori was right, Taiga was being terribly selfish there. Did she even think about what that would do to poor Ryuji? She could have at least told everyone, and told Ryuji that she'd come back for him once her problems with her mother (who we'd never even seen until the episode before the last) were resolved. God, I almost feel like I shouldn't have watched this after all, just because it's all that I'm going to be thinking about for days...

And, again...I really wish the ending had gone a bit further. I really wanted to see Ryuji and Taiga happy together. I mean, the ending scene was fine for what it was, but...I don't know. I'm just going to let this scene from the PSP game be canon in my mind, because it is, goddamnit.

New OP is awesome, just not Cross Fight awesome.
For those of you keeping track at home given my distaste for Buggy voice, Shigeru Chiba was great in this. He even said bara bara!

---

Not a bad little OVA. It's lighthearted if formulaic scifi fun and the animation is fab. I liked how the episodes were basically divided into members of the Dangaioh team regaining their memories and reclaiming their previous identities. I thought it might be a little more self-contained than what it ended up being though as there's some unresolved stuff left as a hook, I guess.

rofl .. what's the point of upscales in blu-rays ??
( not trying anything here ) but upscales are nice on their own but not when you do commercial releases.

is it just lazyness ? incompetence ? or did they lose the source material and couldn't reencode or rework the scenes ?

It being an upscale is unavoidable, since unfortunately Haibane Renmei was mastered at an SD resolution.

The problem is that it's an atrociously bad upscale with horrible artifacts.

A friend of mine sent me a fifty dollar Amazon gift certificate, so I finally broke down and used it to split the cost of the Sword of the Stranger BD and pay up another sixty bucks for it.

I really hope I don't regret this.

This show depresses the hell out of me the more I watch it. I really don't know much of what's going on, but I'm still interested in the world and the characters, especially this "main character" whose life is pretty much hell.

Things get more clear. The early eps are just really deliberate and leave a lot to inference.

Oh, and for Extollere, Jintor, and everyone else watching Toradora right now:

When you get to the last episode, for the love of fuck watch past the credits. I know most of us probably aren't the kind to skip the EDs, but still. Just being safe here.

I feel kinda shallow for liking the original anime more because in Brotherhood
no one dies after Hughes. So many wasted opportunities for delicious tragedy, hahaha. But, seriously: I loved the original show's ending. The whole thing with the "real" world... That shit was cray.
In comparison, Brotherhood's ending was pretty boring. It felt disappointing after all the build-up.
