I think I might re-watch OreImo to prepare myself for S2 in the Spring.

I need to finally watch the extra episodes. It's weird because there are two versions of episode 12 (good end, and true end), and I can't remember which one I saw. I have this distinct memory of
Kirino leaving *AND* Kuroneko enrolling in Kyosuke's school
. But I don't think I watched both versions of episode 12... It's only necessary to see the true ending to go forward, right?

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya ep 25 - The Adventures of Mikuru Asahina Episode 00

They really started this as the first episode? Werent people confused or something (if they didnt see The Sigh of Haruhi Suzumiya)? Pretty funny episode to actually see the movie, Kyon's commentary, the random pan up shots to transition scenes, and little random details knowing the story behind stuff, was good.

Kirino leaving for the US and Kuroneko going to school with the main guy
is the true end, as that's what the extra episodes follow.

I really did try to watch this but I just ended up falling asleep. I will try to persevere but even just when I think the show is going to entertaining there's some four minute speech to bore you to death. Gen, why must you try and ruin your own show?

Based on Madoka and Fate/Zero, I assume that this has to be one of his quirks.

I came into this anime expecting a nice, heartwarming little show about a doctor, instead I get moments of existentialism and really heartbreaking tragidies.

This will continue to be one of my favourite anime episodes. To see this character who was developed to be some kind of overpowered Doctor brought to his knees in this episode as he struggles to find a cure for this mysterious disease with no real cause kept me on the edge of my seat. And that ending...Holy crap. That's honestly all I can say about it.

Pokemon B/W Adventures in Unova 02

You know how in the games you are innocently walking around and you are suddenly challenged to a Pokemon battle using some silly format that you'll never hear again for the rest of the game? That's this episode.

I got up to Grand Line in One Piece (Little Garden specifically) and everything goes nuts. From the criminal syndicate to the animals. I'm probably just scratching the surface of where this adventure is heading. It's nice to see more females take part of the story.

Okay, just a quick question before I jump back down the Evangelion rabbit-hole. This disc presents me with the original airing and directors cut versions of each episode. Which should I be going with?

Director's cut. No reason I can think of to watch the original airing unless you want to do so afterwards for comparison's sake.

Really cool episode, but Kogami sure needs to powerup.
Was hoping Akane would bash Makashima's head in with the helmet, that would have been sweet. Kagari was dead at the end there right? The gun was saying nonlethal, but it looked like it changed to lethal mode didn't it?

Ah, well, that's a bit more understandable then. lol

I guess at some point you have to keep upping the ante to keep the battles interesting/the same length as other battles. Presumably One Piece will never get as silly as Asura's wrath though. lol

Assuming it's based on a bidding process, I assume it's because they were willing to pay more than anyone else for the rights. Presumably they've found a way to make it work though.

I think you should just stop reading out of context spoilers or asking people to explain the entire show for you, so you can make assumptions of how the storys and characters are like.

it would be like me asking you to explaining one of the serious gintama arc to me all that's going to achieve is sour my enjoyment of it, since i have an idea of some of the stuff that take place.

REVENGE OF THE SEA COW!

Which is weird, given what they show of the Marines, but why not.

Well, for all the emphasis on violence - you're talking about a 20 minute fight sequence at the end - the fact that it's all bloodless and clean makes it seem like violence is something that is fun and wacky.

Of course, I'm ignoring the fact that everyone calls out their moves beforehand, because that's just how the genre works, but even if you don't take that into account it still feels goofy. More so when you see the heroes get bloodied and two characters get shot and bleed.

It also makes me question the stakes of the battle. Is Luffy so tied to his particular morality that he's willing to hold back even if the villain is trying to kill him? Is Arlong even trying to kill him at that point or just knock him unconscious?

I mean, there are lots of martial arts movies where all the fighting isn't fatal - all of Jackie Chan's movies for one - but that's because it's really just an excuse for action porn rather than actual storytelling or characterization. Come to think of it though, I suppose One Piece's action probably fits that bill as well. The difference is that at the end of every Jackie Chan movie, you have a bloopers reel to show how everything was all in good fun. It serves as a reminder to the audience that these characters are all friends in real life and that martial arts and stunts aren't always beautiful to watch (and can be extremely painful). Maybe One Piece does the same thing by just being inherently goofy with its Gomu Gomus and whatnot.

Well, I figured I might as well put my money where my mouth is with regards to my feelings on One Piece.

(I still wish everything was like Gintama though... sorry! lol)

waht wtf do you really need a blooper reel to tell you the violence in a movie isn't real and really there all buddy buddy, am going to have to call you out and say your issue on violence is a load of nonsense.

Gintama is same in that regard in episode 29 I watched kagura be attacked by a maniac sword hunter then he threw her off a tall building only for her to have monologue about how she doesn't want to die then magically appears her trusty space dog running up said building vertically then kagura strikes back just by poking his bum with a stick, after he tried to kill her.

One piece and gintama are both cartoons/anime they aren't real, violence is used to entertain the audience in both of them.

You need to make up your mind, one second complaining about the wacky nature of fights being bloodless(or so you say) then in the next few lines you complain about having are heroes bloodied

are you high? one second your complaining about the lack of of blood(if you saw it you should know there is blood) then your complaining about there being blood.
It's clear your far too emotional invested in this gintama vs one piece war that's supposedly going on in animegaf and your far to focus on making silly comparisons to gintama.

Am normally always trying to get people to watch one piece in animegaf but in your case I say don't watch it, no point in watching something you don't want to like, no one is forcing you to cheat on gintama.

Wow, Shiny Luminous is ugly. Between the old lady nightgown costume and ruining the forehead + ponytail combo with, uhh, whatever the fuck those giant things growing out of the sides of her head are, she's kind of nasty. Well SDBurton, you're officially going to overtake me in the next day or two because I just can't do more than a couple of episodes of this per day. I'm going to go regenerate a few brain cells catching up on Chihayafuru.

Well, I can't fault that for looking ugly or anything. Some glaring (NSFW) continuity errors aside, it actually had plenty good animation (or rather as much good stock footage as you can endure Nadia saying Jean is a great genius). It's just... there's no real point? Ostensibly, this was about Jean and Nadia coming to terms with their feelings for each other, but the foray into the comedy dream world was clear cut filler that contributed nothing to this particular plot strand. I don't think Jean learned shit from it.

Let's persevere.

Otaku no Video

I'm not sure what drove me to watch this— it's something I've always heard about in passing, but never bothered to investigate. I pretty much knew it was a comedy by Gainax that had a little bit of live action. And, for the most part, that's what it is. The first episode of this I thought was really well done. It's basically a sped up, more competent version of Genshiken. The tone seemed like the perfect set-up for the dark comedy it was trying to make: enviable main character gets sucked into the life of an otaku and his self-image begins to slowly deteriorate as he loses his girlfriend and livelihood.
The live action bits were certainly an interesting part of the show. Though they don't ultimately seem to accomplish much but the same "gag" if you can even call it that. They eventually chop up the pacing and get in the way of the otherwise interesting story. They go from macabre to silly in the way that they depict Otaku. Perhaps this was some 'more culturally relevant now than then' lampooning of the media depicting Otaku as degenerates. Or maybe they just wanted to laugh at themselves.

We could all use one of these
The second episode seemed to completely step all over the first by making everything go from down-to-earth otaku story to
complete bat shit crazy escalation of a self made company.
For a second I was almost a bit sad that they abandoned any chance at a real story, but that slowly faded and was gone completely when
there was a 30 something year time jump and tokyo was underwater and they traveled down to otakuland where they piloted the mecha into space in search of otaku planet. Just wow.
I'm assuming this two-off was just a fun project for Gainax in general. It's not a "must see" or anything, but I think it helps establish a sensibility of early Gainax. Speaking of that, I remember awhile back someone posted a link to a huge write-up on Gainax history. Anyone still got that?

Kubo looking at a production cel of Minmay and thinking of his girlfriend was funny enough to drive me into making my first gif. Good stuff.

The danger of a "surprise" screening. Lolz.

Yeah, you win some, you lose some. I admit, had I known I'd be subjected to 5cm/s, I probably wouldn't have bothered making the trip, but it was nice to have another chance to see Wolf Children theatrically.

I do find it somewhat depressing that Poppy Hill - a movie which I don't dislike - manages to fill out a cinema far more than Hosoda's effort purely on Ghibli name recognition, though.

Anyway, the RE:009 license is actually for theatrical, so hopefully a chance to see it will crop-up in the not too distant future.

-edit- Oh, parts of the audience actually started actively heckling 5cm/s, which was pretty hilarious. Personally, I just want to know how a toothbrush can collect depression.

So why did they start handing out 3D glasses if they didn't even have the film available at the venue?

I'd have to track down Mr Partridge and grill him for answers to find out what happened to get answers to that one, unfortunately. I presume either the message didn't get down to the ushers, or that Mr P was trying to get whichever couriers were sitting on the materials to release it right up until the last minute.

I think I may be the only person in the entire world who thinks the ending only serves to further highlight how utterly pathetic otaku are depicted in this work. Everyone else sees it as a glorification of otaku fandom.
I don't see it as either. I see it as it taking the third route where they
blast off into fucking space.

But, no, I see where you're coming from. It's sort of like "Since this is an anime, it works out for us as Otaku" no matter how absurd the reasoning.

You're gaining...nothing. All your doing is delaying how long it takes you got get to the OH MY GOD finale stuff. Don't you ever want to reach OP 2?

You just want to see Nadia in her Island outfit. You pervert.

His Psycho Pass was at the level of a non lethal round, but looks like the cyborg chairwoman hacked it into rocket launcher mode.

Brilliant episode, although that episode title had the cynic in me thinking there was a "but" somewhere, well played, well played.
