I'm kind of sad that nobody answered the question I asked earlier, so I'm going to shamelessly repost it:

Takes me back to when I watched it. It is really swell. As for the challenge:

Episode 9 of Humanity Has Declined is fantastic.

Though not to make extremely direct comparisons, it's great in a different way than Paranoia Agent 8. But they have their similarities in terms of darker turns and humor. The episode itself is worth checking out. Therefore, not really answering the challenge, but offering another more recent well-made stand alone episode. The series itself has some extremely rough patches though.

I think it's just a matter of time until they actually make a show out of that LN they promoted last year.

Doesn't seem like it would be too good besides Kigami/Ishidate action.

I hope this never happens. I realized while watching Chuunibyou that I can't stand KyoAni's special effects color vomit during action scenes and it looks like an animated Kyoukai no Kanata would have tons of that. Leave that to ufotable or something.

If they can get Takemoto and Gatoh on board again, anything is possible.

(I've given up on begging for FMP!, just... give me something KyoAni)

Australians got a triple dose of new anime today, with Hanabee announcing licenses for Kids on the Slope, Dusk Maiden of Amnesia, and Mysterious Girl X. All of them will be dual language BD/DVD, and since their KotS date is close to the NA release date, the June dates for the latter two also give us a clue when Sentai might release their versions.

Oh boy. Another excellent episode.

And really well done excitement and tension building again for another purely Karuta episode. The game really is dominating this season. At least so far.

That's just an Ishihara problem.

Is that what people were holding up as an example of something they'd like to see KyoAni do while Hyouka was airing? Jesus lord.

The Nichijou artstyle (apart from character faces obviously) is weirdly suited to action sequences. Thick lines, massive blocks of colour, little to no filters unless they're doing some joke.

That CM is really messy though, and Ishidate sure loves his fancy digital processing.

That PV still looks way more impressive than anything in Chuunibyou.

Ishidate did fine work in Hyouka. I think the important thing is that Takemoto directs any action series KyoAni would decided to do.

I cannot decide if Mipple and Mepple are adorable or annoying as hell. I'm leaning towards annoying.
This episode was setup like
Pissard's last stand
. This show definitely echoes Sailor Moon heavily. At least the formula that has worked so well for this genre. Thats both a good and a bad thing. It does feel a bit tired by now but the cuteness and music keeps me watching even though I can see the outcome from a mile away.
Also, do Nagisa and Honoka really have to be together every time to transform? that could be a nightmare once the baddies figure out how to separate them.

I enjoy in Nichijou how Yuuko and Mio continually switch the role of idiot

They really play off the relationship well. The role of straight girl and funny girl depending on situation. There are primary roles for them, but their switches are great.

Futoshi Nishiya is a great character designer.

Nichijou would have been much better if it didn't spend so much time being all Dane Cook. Being LOUD AND EXTREME is not inherently funny.

Holy shit, is that an accurate description of the comedy? If there is any way to turn me off from ever watching the show, that description does the job.

Replace Nichijou with the title of any anime comedy and nine times out of ten your statement will still be accurate.

All these souls wanting to be weighed down by gravity. smfh Did not expect a

Huh, guess that's the first arc done. I'll probably put this on hold and come back to the second arc after a bit, I think.

Has gundam scale ever been consistent?

For as much as Nichijou is about its loud/amazing gifs, there's still a lot of comedy being done with silent/quieter moments

It's a sports anime from before the turn of the century. Your enjoyment of it is directly proportional to how much you can endure tremendous amounts of filler and dragged out sports matches.
I just wonder why it's so popular though. I can understand Adachi, since it's basically family porn for Asians obsessed with family, but Slam Dunk is something else.

The hype turned into anti-hype for me. lol

There's also a lip licking gif that someone could make if they're so inclined. It's almost like they animated it just for all the memers out there.

I like that each ED is "different" in some way. It's almost like an in character commentary... but I wonder what that means for their CD sales. Maybe they do an entire album. lol

As for the show itself, I feel like I'm slowly getting a handle on what it's about and what is trying to do. It reminds me of that Star Trek: TNG episode where a human girl finds out that she's basically a god and has to deal with that revelation... and since I have no idea what's going on with the Japanese mythology (outside of Persona :p), that's going to be the way I get into the series I suppose.

The Shafty framing is back and is always classy. I'd look up who directed this episode, but then I realized that would be too much work. lol

I doubt the CM will be in any way representative of the quality of the show if KyoAni decides to actually do it.

I agree. The CM was simply a messy "eye catcher" for a light novel.
If an "action anime" were to be announced under them, I wouldn't use it as reference for fear or uncertainty.

True. Galaxy angel is awesome but even it has over the top moments. Shit, even Excel Saga is nonstop insanity. What the fuck do people expect from comedy? You want comedy to be over the top! Otherwise its just that stupid highbrow hipster comedy deadpan shit that few people like (except Sarah Silverman. shes alright)

While 2nd Raid might be too old to use as a barometer for the quality they are able to produce, I feel that it and the Chuunibyou action sequences are better representations of what KyoAni can produce action-wise if they ever bother to do so.

(Oh God, why are we doing this to ourselves? KyoAni is never doing action again. Let's just stop before we all fall into manic depression.)

The Chuunibyou fantasy and mecha sequences filled me with despair. KyoAni could be making such awesome action shows if they bothered to.
No thanks! Unless they do something actually meaningful with an action series, they should just stick with slice of life/comedies.

There are alot of ways to make an action show interesting.

I'd be interested to see what a Yamada-Yoshida action show could be like :lol

Well, Yamada did say she was interested in fantasy series and Yoshida has worked on some action series before. I would be interested in seeing how Yamada would direct an action show as well, to be honest. Although I would prefer for the two to do an adventure fantasy series first, lol.

Yeah, an adventure first with minimal action ala Spice and Wolf would be great. She can then branch off after that. *dreams*

Who are we kidding? Yamada's gonna be doing K-On-y stuff for the rest of her life.

Not interesting, meaningful. I'd watch a series set in WW2 Japan from them, for example.

If you want to see robots fight other robots, there's already a glut of that stuff. I'd rather they just leave that to Sunrise or whomever.

Maybe KyoAni will have to do a otakubait money-maker show eventually though. :p

Something well written and funny?
Come on man, Nichijou is funny. It's stupidly random at times and wears its cartoonishness on its sleeve, but it is funny.

Fate/Zero Einzbern Consultation Room Special 6-
I'm fucking dying here. They dumped his backstory and reasoning into the extras. I really do wish we saw more of him as it might had given stronger characterization to Saber too. Also some of these shots look like the animators were probably going to use it in the main series but backed off. The fact that this episode is much longer than normal is another red flag. The reasoning in the blu-ray book about how it was a pacing/editing issue and how they couldn't get it to work sounded bullshit at the time, as I thought they were just being lazy, but now I'm not so sure.

On a separate note, I'm disappointed that I didn't get any Taiga fanservice.

Overall it wasn't a bad set of extras. I already knew all the info but it was entertaining to watch.

Now where is my FS/N anime Ufotable?

Why not watch Kenya Boy if you want a meaningful WW2 anime?

One of the best scenes like this would probably be the house of cards skit -- about 4:30 of incredible dialogueless humor. The fact that the whole thing is set to classical music makes it even better.
