[Tamako Market] - 3
That was the most entertaining episode so far, though that's hardly unexpected, seeing as it nicely builds off the foundations of the previous episodes. I'm impressed at how quickly the cast of characters has been established, and there is already a comfortable familiarity amongst the ensemble.
I know there are those that seemingly direct most of there criticism at him, but Dela continues to entertain. Some of my favourite moments where amongst those that focussed on him. And though Shiori's arrival at the market was mainly focussed on her own interactions, I was also interested in the details we gleaned about Dela's own ingratiation into this world. It's clear to see that he's now far more comfortable that he'd like to admit! Though his behaviour was never not overt, there is a noticeable change, not least of all due to how much time has passed since his arrival. And a few of the slight details pay heed to this fact, such as the amenities Tamako has provided for him, and how familiar he has become with the denizens of the market. Sure, the self-aggrandizing is still in full effect, but his demeanour has generally softened, and those earlier proclamations of disapproval have noticeably vanished along with it!
The other thing worth mentioning was the music, or at least how it punctuated Shiori's scenes. Though I can't profess to having much knowledge on the subject, I thought its use here was notable because of how effective the more drawn-out string pieces were in emphasizing her quiet unease. Though it wasn't exactly an unfamiliar scenario, those little flourishes helped to draw me in, and the crescendo during the cafe scene served as a nice pay-off.
I can still only see Dela's "mission" to be the source of potential drama/friction. Though, that's not to say I necessarily require those elements, but it does leave me curious as to where it is going next. And It has already been covered, but I should still offer a passing mention to the backgrounds featured, because they continue to be great.
