Is this where I'm supposed to start hating Porun? Cause...I don't. At least not yet. I liked when he got caught in the claw machine.

So Dark King made a new minion by placing a seed inside some guy who works in an office, completely destroying any trace or memory of his existence whatsoever. And also filled him up full of some sort of super-steroids. New arc ahoy.

If you don't hate Porun yet you wont. I told you he's not that bad. his cuteness outweighs everything.

Another long day at work. being cajunator is suffering. I did spend some time reminiscing over my favorite animegaf memories though and concluded the one where firehawk was dueling madpierrot and madp just so happened to draw the fifth Exodia card in his desperation to be my favorite.

Hang in there! You should be rich by now.

I don't find his voice nearly as annoying as Mepple and Mipple. And the infantile behavior and need to be protected...eh. Those may begin to grate on me as things go on, but they aren't so terrible yet.

Oh god, I may be becoming cajunator.

I agree. Those two annoy the fuck out of me a lot more.

I get the whole absurdist angle of it and I can easily appreciate the creativeness of it but it just didn't really click with me which is a shame as I was actually looking forward to this. :( Oh well, maybe the second OVA & Movie will fare better.

That's the problem with humour discussions, there's no way to talk around 'Click/didn't click'. Ah well, at least you're giving it more of a chance!

I guess I should check out Arakawa Under the Bridge.

I wouldn't call Lockon the only redeeming quality of the show. I personally really enjoy Season 1. It has a lot of great moments. I really enjoyed a lot of what they were attempting, even if all the other main characters sucked. The Trinity sibling arc, Ali Al-Saachez and the final arc really did work for me. Also, I really, really dig Season 1's mecha.

Season 2 and the movie, on the other hand, are hot piles of garbage. The way they end up ruining Lockon is one of the many irredeemable acts those things commit.

Yeah, the mecha I like. Exia and Dynames are slick, and Nadleh is badass.

Classic.

Another example of an episode with an outrageous premise involved with defeating an Angel, done and executed, with character development and time to spare in it's 23 minutes. I think you'd be hard pressed to find a more "fun" mecha fight in anime. Extremely well executed and one of my favorite episodes.

I think this episode alleviated some of the disdain garned by Asuka last episode. The way she meshed with Shinji in sort of an inconsequential way wasn't annoying, it was just funny. Also in this episode was another very well executed bizarre scene with Shinji (and one that's important to Asuka's character).
Being left alone in their house with Misato for the night, Asuka ends up sleep walking and finds herself (though asleep) laying next to Shinji. It's partially erotic for Shinji seeing Asuka so close in basically her underwear, but as he moves in closer he notices her crying and repeating the word "mama". I think this was really important because it broke Asuka out of that single dimension and showed a brief bit of vulnerability. Whether or not we'll see Asuka's mother later may not be important at all, but for a brief second her character is broken and Shinji can see that underneath her confidence she's as brittle as him.
This moment was amplified by more great audio direction, but I wont pour over that more than I have already.

I must have some kind of fancy for seeing teens in awkward/odd situations, because between this and Mysterious Girlfriend X I tend to end up praising them when they're well done.

man i forgot about those unit-01 and unit-02 shots. It's not like I forgot about the ep either, I just seem to not remember the silly parts of NGE.

I dislike the "Mecha with hair" thing, but Nadleeh's fight scenes are pure badassery. So much cool shit going on. Well animated, too. That's another thing about Season 2, it just looks worse. The fights aren't as interesting and the suit designs are dumbed down to be easier to animate. It's really sad.

Hey, there's two good fights!
Exia vs the A-Laws at the beginning and Exia vs 0 Gundam in the last ep. Note the common elements!

I dunno, the Venom/Codarl from FMP has long flowing hair and it's pretty sick.

God dang that
Exia R3
fight almost almost redeemed Season 2 for me. The ways they tweak that design made me feel like they knew what they were doing again.

From the New World 23:
That was a good episode. While the earlier parts of the episode weren't quite as tense as they could have been, the second half was great.
Inui voicing his doubts about Kiroumaru, the mental conversation between Saki and Shun, and then the scene of Saki crying after everything has gone wrong (but not dwelling on it too long)
They really brought out their A game for the latter part of the episode. And dear god, that ending followed by that preview.

Neon Genesis Evangelion - 9

Classic.

Legendary episode. While there are better episodes of Evangelion in terms of the drama and overall storyline, this is just such an utterly enjoyable episode from beginning to end, and it manages to stand out from the rest because of how ridiculous it is. Definitely one of the most fun episodes of the show.

Plus, it just looks great.

*nods ..

00 season 1 is pretty good and season 2 is a giant disapointment.

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya 28 (end)

Well that was an interesting episode, litrally nothing of significance happened. Though that was some creative method of blocking out scenes of Asahina changing.

I guess I give the whole anime a 9 / 10 or so. Really compelling characters and plot at times and really makes the school club aspect of anime shine. Everything felt new and unique and they all interacted so well. Haruhi's personality could be a bit annoying at times especially during the filming of the movie episodes but just the mystery
of how everything she wills may come to pass, possibly,
keeps her being interesting enough to want to have around. Asahina and Yuki have their moments (especially Nagato on multiple occasions,
endless eight, hacks on the baseball bat in one episode, time jutsus, computer stuff
, or Asahina too). And of course, like a broken record tracking back through my haruhi posts, Kyon and Koizumi were the best, post, pre episode commentary tying things up, Koizumi's aspects and outlooks on life, Kyons inner dialogue and commentary, and jpn voice, koizumi too, all amazing.

Visuals were atrocious at times, day of sagittarius for example the space moments, closed space stuff, etc.

Wolf Children

It was alright and the music was stellar, but that ending REALLY rubbed me the wrong way, potentially to the point of ruining the entire movie for me.

Ame is an insensitive fuck. Finding a place you belong is one thing, but at least wait a bit after all the shit you put your mother through. I can't even imagine what kind of abandonment issues Hana develops thanks to her fuckhead of a son. Yuki leaves too, but at least she can see her mother whenever, while it's implied Ame completely cut himself off from the human world like a selfish piece of shit.

If there's one thing I can say about this movie, it's that the anger the ending caused me will definitely make it more memorable than anything else Hosoda did except OP 6.

Thermal Expansion: The Episode

A pretty simple plot and a pretty simple "fight", but it was fun and managed to be tense even when it was operating on (what appeared to be) a more limited budget.

The whole premise of this one sort of "birthed" some questions about angels in general, if you'll pardon the expression.
So, they're born? They seemed more alien than something that would just start being a part of the habitat on earth. I guess this was some sort of repercussion from second impact? Speaking of that, the end of this episode confirmed that Misato has some history with the event. But this also opened up another question: what happened in Asuka's history? They seem to have implied it involved Second Impact, but I wouldn't imagine directly because then she'd be a lot older than she is now (Though she did make mention of graduating college... maybe she's older than she looks..?). Perhaps more likely, her family could have been killed during it. Which might explain why she mutters "mama" while crying in her sleep.
All just speculation!

Getting closer to the point where I'll be completely in the dark... Entirely unsure as to what episode I've seen to. I'll probably have a bit more to say per-episode at that point.

Well... that's one way to read the ending...

She's an academic prodigy aka like that one kid who was in the news because he was taking college classes at six years old or some shit. Don't read anything else into that.

She seemed just fine at the end so I don't really get what you're going with this at all.

Hana already decide she will raise the kids either they wanted to be human or wolves, she contradict herself at the little spat with Ame. The ending just make her remember the right track.

Oofuri is pretty fun so far. Mihashi sounds like Dusk Maiden of Amnesia, Teiichi Niiya, I think, which is good cause I like that his voice. The characters look like their in permanent blush mode which makes many of the scenes pretty interesting.

Abe and Mihashi really seem like the perfect pitcher catcher combo and I hope they make it far, if Mihashi can just keep on trusting him and putting his faith in him, Hanai is good to have around though hope hes actually a good hitter, and I really want to see some of the other characters get in on the action too, like. Tajima. Fun enjoyable episode, will definitely stick with this.

The power outage one.

When this episode got going, I thought that it would end up sort of being a slow, talky episode, but I was wrong. Seeing everyone operate all of the machinery by hand was kind of cool, but damn
what was with that glorifying moment with Ikari-dad? He was a dick like, 5 minutes earlier. I don't buy it at all.
I guess we didn't get any closure on just who broke the multiple power grids unless I missed something.

Not much else to talk about here. That explosive ending was pretty awesome. The Eva's just look so cool.

Otona Joshi no Anime Time - Yuuga

So I can tell that this is an anime that basically has no appeal whatsoever to any anime fan, which I suppose is the point, but shit gets weird when they decide to use photographs as backgrounds:

Z8WrFCHl.jpg

A lot of this episode is centered around cooking and food, and they do something that I haven't really seen in any medium in a while:
ORlweRCl.jpg

(I really haven't heard or seen an alphabet soup reference in probably at least 15 years lol)

But food is such an easy way to create a connection between people... and maybe that's why they filmed a lot of the food prep/cooking in live action to make the act of cooking relatable to the 30-something women that are supposed to be watching this thing? I have no idea.

It makes for some weird shots though, like 2d people eating 3d food:
iao3Nzml.jpg

Look at how his hands overlap with that plate of food... it just looks so weird.

But hey, I should also applaud it for having the first anime condom that I've seen that doesn't involve a shitty sex joke or innuendo that goes absolutely no where!
OybI0H0l.jpg

Sex is just sex! Who knew?

I'll be curious to see what the other two episodes will be like. duckroll-hype is strong with the Bones/Yoshida episode. I guess we have to join forces for that one. lol

You haven't seen this? This is like the most :DTL show ever. It makes Kuroko seem almost as straight as the NBA!

McDonalds sponsors the show and that has been done on the first episode.
Oh wow, I totally forgot that. What was weird was that everything in the bag looked like a standard McDonald's meal too. They use the same wrapping and cups... it's so weird!

She seemed just fine at the end so I don't really get what you're going with this at all.

Maybe of what's been shown.
I don't believe for a minute she's perfectly okay, especially after the way her husband died, which she had been thinking about when Ame left. I understand she vowed to raise them however they wished, but she's still a mother and after 10 years, it's hard to believe she'd be so accepting of the decision to never see her son again.

It would have been easier to swallow if it wasn't so abrupt. The two don't have a conversation of any kind when Ame bails, it's just Hana screaming and then accepting it out of nowhere because of a howl. That optimistic portrayal just felt so unearned, even if you ignore the fact you don't use the "be free!" trope on a friggin 10 year old kid, wolf or not.
