I can't think of anything in Shangri-La that takes its transsexual characters seriously - obviously we'll have to disagree but I thought Momoko was a ridiculous stereotype. But you've seen the whole series whereas I only watched a few episodes so it's possible the overall treatment of the transsexual characters was less "played for laughs" than the stuff I thought was irritating campery in the early episodes.

Paradise Kiss. You're thinking of Isabella/Daisuke.

Momoko is playful, as I said before, but he is definitely a character with a purpose in the show and not just an oddity. He is not shy about who he is and what he likes, but it is never really more than a joke or two (and is useful later on to distract some baddies). Momoko is a bit of comic relief in a surprisingly serious show (given that premise). He is also not the only transsexual in the show. If you recall, his partner Miiko was able to get into Atlas through the lottery and serves as a caretaker to Mikuni. Miiko's role is even more serious in nature and he does not even get played for laughs at all.

Akane might have to shut down the takoyaki store.
The worst looking game of red light green light.
Porun throws a tantrum and Nagisa yells at him to shut the fuck up. Porun thanks her for getting mad at him.
uhhh...
Porun asks why hikari doesn't get mad at him. He feels like they don't really get along like they should.
Porun wants to play but Hikari is busy helping with the Takoyaki cafe. He runs off.
Akane decides she wants to keep the cafe running.
Villain shows up.He says he has no time for the Precure's shit today. He needs to talk to Hikari.
Porun gets into some mischief with the groceries. Hikari find him and scolds him. He thanks her because she's not being an emotionless husk for once. You tell her Porun! Hikari actually cries a little. so she is a real person after all! She transforms into Shiny Luminous and tries to protect the Takoyaki cafe. The villain is like whatever bitch I'm gonna break it! And hikari is like OH NO YOU DIDNT YOU ASSHOLE! Then The Precures get in on the fight and take care of business.
Akane comes back to find a mess. she blames it on Nagisa because theres no way Honoka or Hikari would do something so daft.
This show also has some pretty good background art sometimes. It is just highly inconsistent.

Sorry for double-posting, I got too excited about opening credits...

Oh my god... I was going to go to the theatre tonight but may just go home and watch all of these instead... *drools* thanks for the link!

AH THEY HAVE THE RUBICON OPENING CREDITS ON THERE ;_;

No problem man, you should check out the interviews and features they do too! Fascinating stuff there.

In some ways this can backfire. I will cheerfully admit to really liking the band Galileo Galilei, who did the AnoHana OP. I heard their single "Asu E", which was the first OP for Gundam AGE, completely independently of the show and loved it. But with the OP animation it's awful, it doesn't suit the show at all. Given how few people watched Gundam AGE I guess it wasn't a very good sales tactic anyway!

I don't mind that they used such a mellow song, if done well it could've served as a great contrast to the actual show. Too bad Gundam AGE couldn't pull it off among other things.

For neither of those things, try Sci-Fi Harry's OP. Or for something more amusing, maybe Moyashimon? The microbes aren't really the characters in the show :p

Oh man, that Moyashimon OP brings me back, I wonder if they sell plushies of them. Sci-Fi harry looks interesting, I'm kind of getting a welcome to the NHK vibe from it, is the actual show as intriguing as the OP?

I feel the same way about good OP but I've come to dislike how in anime they're mostly used to sell people hit singles. I understand that money from those singles help keep anime alive but it doesn't mean I have to like how pervasive it is. That said I love how it lets studios flex their animation muscles. Funny enough though my favorite intro doesn't even do that, the flashes of text and the escalating noises in Bakemonogatari got me more excited for the show than the actual OP ever did. I guess I shouldn't complain since any OP is better than the death of them but I just want some variety from a parade of character shots set to catchy music.

The only advice I have is: watch weirder shows because they tend to have weirder OP's! Of course, there aren't that many odd or unusual shows so there really aren't that many odd or unusual OP's around at the moment.

Haha.. Aki's speech was great, and Frau awesome as ever.. man I just like the character.

And that ALL NAKAMA moment would be lot better and memorable if this a better show, I would be lying if saying not having some fun though, still prefer this over Psycho-Pass although that not saying much.

Where the PC port for the game.
Because, deep down, everyone wants to be Speedwagon.

I like this answer.

Yeah, the dude is a dick. And I don't get how that Kotonoha girl suddenly started to "love" the dude. She didn't even wanted to touch him before.

I don't get why anyone would write episode summary in their impression post, anime blog not even doing that anymore.

Giving a slight overview of what happens isn't a bad thing. Not everyone can watch every show, so people might look for what happens in a show like a certain character/voice actor appears or the story goes in a certain route or something.
Though of course since they're impressions, people should also divulge their own thoughts and how these parts affected them.

Now we rollin.
Villain #3 shows up. The little great evil one is training or something. Getting stronger.
Honoka is elected to president of the Science Club. Except she kind of gets pissed at one of her idiot underlings and scolds them, which makes her regretful.
This is close to her birthday, so her overworked parents come home for their once per year visit and take her to some French restaurant. Nagisa and Hikari are out shopping and the third heartiel appears. This one is even cuter than the other two. How will my heart cope at this rate?
Of course Zakenna appears and tries to ruin everything and fails. Nagisa presents Honoka with a congratulatory gift and she feels better about her new position.
So far so good with this show. Its nothing special, nor is it the abysmal wreck it was made out to be. Its just absolutely average.

Here, have all the title sequence porn you'll ever need. It won't change the growing lack of them but it should tie ya over until more come along.

Wait, why would the hype make you do that instead of wanting to watch more of the show as soon as possible or even marathoning it? I've only spoiled myself on a show or movie's wiki plot summary when I didn't care enough to actually watch the thing so the opposite seems kind of backwards to me.

Well I suppose you could always watch Fractale.
Or actually, no don't do that. But the OP is very pretty. Its just a bunch of fractals set to a great song.

Hmm... via a tweet from voice actress Emily Neves and a response from Sentai, and assuming that she's referring to recording and not just watching, could this be a hint at Sentai's next license? (Kotomi and Kanade are both character's she's voiced, by the way.)
@EmilyNeves said:
Finishing an #anime today that is even sadder than Kotomi and Kanade's stories combined. @SentaiFilmworks

Of course, it could also refer to finishing touches on the dub for an existing but so far unreleased license, or maybe she's just rewatching her role as Ringo in Penguindrum (for which the second NA BD set released last week) and being mysterious about it for some reason... who knows.

OPs are there mostly to get you a feeling of what the show is going to be like. You'll find a lot more variety with Ending themes, since they don't really have to sell you on the show. It's basically just fanservice at that point, I mean that in both the titillating and non-titillating variety, so they can go crazy.

Not every opening can be as inspired as Record of Lodoss War, I guess.

Smile Precure Movie

I still think it's amazing how they turned a movie into a jpop concert. lol
Imagine if they did this during a Disney/Pixar movie?

And because this is Japan:
If you parents don't love you enough to buy you a plastic LED light, don't feel too bad about being left out!

As for the movie itself, I'm just reminded of why I like Smile and don't really like Doki Doki. The cast has such great chemistry that they simply couldn't reproduce it with Mary Sue, Batman, Robin and another Batman. So it was nice to just see them all again, and a return to the old art style.

What's really weird is that this turned into a
fairy tale version of Wreck It Ralph, to the point where the villains end up helping the Smiles.
That's gotta be a random coincidence, I assume.

There was also a really neat looking "Miyuki has swagger" moment near the end of the film that could have been ripped right out of Gintama. I mean, they amped up the fighting-drama in the show a lot, but I think that moment takes the cake.

As a send off for the series, and - probably for me anyway - the franchise, it was a nice way to see them off. Pretend that this takes place after the series and you get the ending that you should have gotten on TV.

I dunno if low expectation doing wonder here, but I enjoy a lot of this final arc. I cat see the complain though, the plot are total shit and the good thing are usually that you found in VN not for anime.

I need the damn game now.

At least the Beauty episode wasn't constantly slipping reused animation into the fights.

you're right, though, it's still the best

Haha, you know, your mentioning of Toei recycling animation for things like PreCure reminds me of when I went back and watched through all of the original 80's cartoon of The Transformers in 2010, in which I believe Toei was responsible for the animation.

I had seen bits of the show when I was younger but then decided I wanted to go back and watch through the whole thing. In an episode of the second season where the jist of the story is that the Decepticons have made a makeshift base in a cave behind a waterfall with a big drill to get down to the center of the earth for Energon I believe(The usual crazy plans anyway, haha). The constructicons are there and an Autobot on patrol spies them when they go outside and reports this back to Optimus. The Autobots stage an attack and the constructicons come out of the base and form Devastator to attack them.

The funny part though is that somehow(I can't remember, sorry) an Autobot got into the base to actually see what they were up to while the battle is going on. They're sneaking around the base though because the constructicons are in there! They seemed to use the footage from earlier in the show when first showing the base and the constructicons but now there's an Autobot present. To add to this I think I recall Starscream even talking to them during this scene as well. To top it all off, just after that it goes back to the battle outside of the base focusing on Devastator. So the constructicons are inside the base still working and fighting the Autobots outside as Devastator at the same time! Haha!

This is likely the last time you'll ever be impressed with Ami for any reason. She's the Reika of Sailor Moon.

Yeah, both Ami and Makoto seem to get pushed to the back a bit. :(

Welcome to anime.

Its very curious how prominent is the trope of the loner/loser guy who, without reason at all and no effort on hits part, is suddenly loved by a super-hot girl. A big contrast indeed with the Western media where the bad-ass dude get all the chicks, and if the protagonist a loner/loser, he grows into a man before getting the girl, not after. :O

We should make a thread in OT about it!

Is this a spoiler!? :fist

[Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon] 008
That solves the mystery of the non-prehensile thumbs. I also like that they finally addressed just where the hell is Luna coming from to be so knowledgeable about the monsters and the heroines, but it also raises the question of who the hell is the guy directing the game arcade?

I wonder what route are they gonna take when bringing this storyline for the new audience? Not only are floppies so nineties, but computers are presented as this esoteric gizmo that only geniuses or overachievers can use.

The arcade reveal is pretty funny when you get there.

That reminds me. In the Ikuhara episode you just watched, didn't Queen Beryl use her crystal ball to play a cassette tape while Usagi had a CD? The Dark Kingdom already rocking it old school, haha.

I don't know how much they would focus on technology but they would probably just have something like all the other girls knowing how things work where Usagi doesn't or is a little slow. The live action Sailor Moon updated things to a more modern time with all the girls having cell phones as well which the anime didn't have, so I don't think it will really be that big of a deal.

DokiDoki! Precure - 04
Alice is pretty legit. My initial thoughts was that she'd be another boring character to add to "Yellow Precures are the worst" pile for the series (Sunshine being the only one to escape that fate) but I was pleasantly proven wrong by this episode.

I see now that it's already been mentioned but shame on you for forgetting about Peace.

I wish they would make a sequel series to Smile. :(

Me too. :(
They've done it before so they should do it again for Smile!
Heartcatch too by the looks of it, haha.

Ah, Ok, thanks.

I had completely forgotten about that movie. Looking forward to it now. I liked Smile, but was disappointed by the finale..

Still, aside from that movie, the Smile cast should still get quite a bit of screentime in the New Stage 2 crossover movie, since the previous team always get to share the spotlight with the newest one in the crossovers... although it'll be a long time before we get to see that.

Let's see.... out of the last few films I saw... how many had opening credits which felt like a unique sequence...

Argo - Yes
Django Unchained - No
The Grandmaster - Yes
Les Miserables - No
One Piece Film Z - Yes
Life of Pi - Yes
Kenshin - No
Re:Cyborg - No

Could be wrong on some of those, memory isn't that good these days. I think opening credits are still somewhat popular, just not mandatory.

Django had the most amazing opening credits ever :(

Does Ranma qualifies as a harem anime?
Yes, but I meant more along the lines of self-insert protagonist getting all the girls. The trope is prevalent because it reinforces the idea that passive amicable males are somehow more interesting that proactive assertive ones. Love Hina is probably the most prominent example of the type of show I'm talking about.

School Days is important because --actually this is a discussion we should have after you finish the show.

Would gattai.

The concept of love in this show just keeps getting more hilarious, they have to use god damn shock collars to prevent it. I need more Zessica, the way KanaHana voices her (among other things) makes me salivate like a wild animal.
