Wirecutter - Switch 2 has "redesigned" joysticks

Sorry if known, have been busy and search didn't show me this had been posted

"If you've played your Switch a lot, you've probably gone through more than one pair of Joy-Cons, and not just to buy more colors. The original Switch's analog sticks were notorious for failing or "drifting." However, the Switch 2 has traded the original Joy-Con analog sticks' potentiometers for Hall effect sensors, which should withstand significantly more use without problems, though we plan to test them long-term to determine their reliability."

As some have pointed out the article has changed from the statement above to:

"If you've played your Switch a lot, you've probably gone through more than one pair of Joy-Cons, and not just to buy more colors. The original Switch's analog sticks were notorious for failing or "drifting." However, Nintendo claims to have "redesigned" the Switch 2's sticks. While the company hasn't given specific information about what that redesign entails, some video game-centric outlets have speculated that the Switch 2 has traded the original Joy-Con analog sticks' potentiometers for Hall effect sensors, which should withstand significantly more use without problems. We'll have to test them long-term to determine their reliability."

If a mod could change the thread title to match the change or even just close the thread it would be appreciated

Read it again. They took out that part.

"This piece has been updated to clarify details around the Switch 2's redesigned Joy-Cons."

The fact that Nintendo is selling seperate joy cons for $50 and a bundle for $90 should be all you need to know about this.

Yeah, they were bullshitting, they don't actually know. It now says:

Read the full article. Nintendo said they've changed the technology in the analog sticks to prevent drift but didn't say Hall effect. It was assumed it was hall effect by other outlets.

So until someone takes one apart or Nintendo says officially, this is just an assumption.

Hall effect sucks. TMR is the new-new hotness. Nintendo always behind the times. Enjoy your 2nd rate stick input Nintendroids.

Really seems like Nintendo has nailed everything with the Switch 2 except for the absurd game pricing. I can really see these $90 physical games crippling their sales this generation (unless Sony and third parties quickly follow suite and then it's just the new (shitty) norm).

Take a guess what's gonna happen.

A Mexican media outlet guy was commenting on a video in the event that it feels "way smoother, with much less resistance, and way more precise" that it may feel weird for some people initially, so I'm inclined to have faith

I'm just glad whatever they've done they've improved it. The low quality sticks in the Pro Controller are horrendous. I've gone through two, that's a lot of money

Lol, hall effect analog cost almost nothing nowadays and yet a pair o joy con is U$ 90, while a dual sense ( that can be used on Switch and probably on Switch 2 ) cost U$ 75.

i dont understand why everyone is impressed by all this overpriced shit.

We're looking forward to the games, which I'm sure do nothing for you either, and I'm sure you'll remind us of ad nauseum.

I knew about this. This is why I had asked if we could use the new pro controller on Switch 1.

The answer is no, it only works on Switch 2.

I bet they won't put in hall effect sticks. Why should they? It saves them 2 cents on a unit to deliver the joy cons with non hall effect sticks. And their greed is limitless…

Yes, as far as I know

In particular, the left and right control sticks are quieter and don't make noise, even when they're moved quickly to the edge. Also, they glide very smoothly, so we've taken to calling them "smooth-gliding sticks". (Laughs)
There's NO confirmation about hall. If they had it they would tell you. No reason to ommit that.

There's zero reason for any new controllers released these days to not have them. You'd think they would start using them just to keep repair and replacement costs down.
i guess the number of people who replace the controllers with new ones (instead of warranty), covered all the repair and replacement cost for SOny.
