Witcher 3 gameplay from YouTubers from CDPR event

For the record, I like the swaying trees. May not be realistic but I like the dramatic effect it adds. Games are a visual medium so I'm fine with stuff like this.

I know this a petty complaint, but does it bother anyone else that it Geralt looks like he skipped leg day?

His upper body is massive and he has these tiny chicken legs. Looks a little weird.

Exactly how I feel. There's a very ethereal, loneliness to the naturalism and the way it's presented. The vistas and motion. A presence of earth and nature that's beyond you, indifferent to your being. Just like Red Dead.

Downright spiritual gaming experience.

Gonna be playing The Witcher 3 like

This is the main thing that makes me excited for this game and why RDR succeeded when all of Rockstar's other open world games have left me cold. I just need confirmation that it'll all be intact on PS4 then I'll get excited.

Have some faith, Robo. Because if CDPR does us wrong, there is no hope left for this industry.

This looks amazing!! Was planning to buy a PS4 but after watching how beautiful it looks on PC, plus, knowing that GTA V is also on PC... kinda tempted to just save more to buy a powerful gamer PC to play this two.

Do it. Had my current PC for a LONG time (over 7 years now) and I'm finally building a new one for this game.

It means they adapted the full Witcher 2 experience admirably with the ancient hardware given to them in the 360 and should be commendable. They'll no doubt strive to give the Xbox One and PS4 versions the same dedication. Obviously it didn't look anywhere near as good on the 360 but no one expected it would, it still performed nicely.

In short, take it on faith.

It's just notable that the state of things have reached to the point where people have legitimate reason to be skeptical and as such I don't get the people defending them. Given their partnership with MS, I'd have expected at least the Xbone version to be out in the wild now.

I understand that people here are fond of CDPR and for good reason, but that doesn't give them full immunity from suspicion or criticism. I doubt very much that any other developer would have been shown such kindness had they pulled the same move.

Past performance is no guarantee of future success especially given that it was a last gen game ported to a last gen system.

Looks like he has average guy size legs and a muscular upper body, which is fine. I think he would look ridiculous with big ass super hero quads.

Was sort of expecting that, sadly.

CDPR were apparently still in the middle of optimising it, and I figure specific drivers around release will boost performance. But yeah, that's Nvidia shit for you.

They've been saying they'd release more console footage closer to release. They've more recently said they would be releasing some this week. It shouldn't matter whether its out there 5 months or 5 days from release, as long as its out there prior its not a big deal.

Did past Witcher games have areas that were more fantastical/magical or was it all open fields, castles and pig farmers?

I appreciate the Game of Thrones style grounded nature, but I also really like some of the more fantasy based stuff.

Well, to be fair, this is the first time we see somehting like hairworks on multiple objects at the same time. Let's give them a bit fo time to continue to optimize. I hope games keep using it goign forward. We should be done with last gen hair going forward.

Based on some of the hints they've dropped and one of the recent screenshots, there is definitely something more "fantastical" out there.

Even with optimization and game ready drivers I just don't see Hairworks not tanking the FPS, especially when you get multiple wolves attacking at once.

I'll be surprised if I'm wrong, considering I'm coming back to Nvidia after close to a decade (My last Nvidia card was a GeForce 6800.) and I'll finally get to see all the extra Nvidia stuff I'll probably end up disabling anyway.

Combat seem much improved at all? haven't seen all that much and keeping it that way until release but i've seen you actually keep facing the enemy now? that's good.

Is that a fact or an opinion? Because if that's so then why disclose the PC version as well aside from showing off nvidia hairworks or other proprietary graphical or physics technology?

Last I checked the game had gone gold or was that only the PC version?

The past games have been pretty grounded in terms of locations. I can only recall one place that was fantastical from the first game.

Mostly grounded. You don't really go anywhere super weird, sans elvish ruins. Most fantastical/weird are probably the winter prophecy vision at the end of the first game, and act 3 in the second, which takes place in the city ruins of an ancient, extinct race of lizard people.

Witcher 3 will go weird, because Ciri and The Wild Hunt play a significant role.

Here is one of my screenshots from The Witcher 2:

Pretty damn fantastical, that area.

But that was pretty uniqiue.

But all of this is PC footage. Stuttering is completely dependent on which hardware you're using, it's not a problem with the game itself. When you are unable to maintain 60fps (or whatever your refresh rate is) in any game you are going to get stutter.

Like all games, people are going to have to figure out what their hardware is capable of and tweak settings to maintain either 30fps or 60fps. The same goes for AC Unity, GTA5 or any other game. This is basic stuff, guys.

Stuttering has nothing to do with fps. Stuttering is a freeze that is based on a) memory lagging or getting filled in fast succession or b) clockspeed of the GPU suddently dropping to zero because of some optimization issue, driver issue or faulty processor.

The game had obvious stutters while staying above 60fps, mainly when walking from terrain to water, which was mentioned to be fixed now.

#22 days from launch, and still no Witcher 3 console gameplay footage. :/ This has been the trend for over 3 years now.

The Witcher world known as The Continent, generally resembles 15th century Medieval Europe. It's going to be a gritty landscape filled with murky villages and castles.

I'd imagine the fantasy world will likely focus on the world of the Wild Hunt which has been featured in the books.

It's all pretty grounded stuff and even the one or two locations which might be construed as "fantasy based" within the context of the Witcher universe are pretty grounded.

Still plenty of variety, but you should expect a relatively grounded universe environment wise.

CDPR is on the verge of maybe possibly surpassing Red Dead Redemption's scenic, airy, naturalistic world atmosphere with all the wind, weather, and day/night lighting effects. There's a rich, serene, picturesque quality to the game, even during the more dramatic weather, that I haven't seen in any game since RDR.

These next 3 weeks will take forever.

There is a mission on RDR that takes place at night on a lonely house on a hill with nothing around you, the sense of loneliness and almost palpatable atmosphere is something veyr few games can convey, in fact no other game has made me feel like I could smell the wetness of the dirt just before it starts to rain. Is quite something, if this game comes close to that oh man!

What's the advantage for CDProjekt for showing console footage? Probably a new thread here titled "Witcher 3 Downgrade confirmed". Releasing console footage is probably not high on their list of priorities and deservedly so. The game looks and plays best on PC so it is only logical their whole campaign is centered around the PC version.

Oh yeah, the battlefield curse. Aka one of the greatest gaming sequences ever.

Ugh. I have W2 sitting on my PC but I don't know if I could beat it by the time 3 drops. I hate skipping games in a series but W3 looks too sexy to wait on. Dammit.

Hopefully I'll be able to run hairworks. It's an oddly cool feature.
He stops talking at 2:50.

Also, the reason the ultra quality video was only 720p was because the 1080p video was processing.

IT'S NOW AVAILABLE IN 1080P!

Very nice, thanks for the heads up.

Does anyone know you can change geralts hair?

There will be an in-game barber, just like in Witcher 2. The real question is: will Geralt's Witcher 1 hairstyle be available? It had better be!

Looks like the MMORPG Black Desert. I remember watching someone play that as a clan tried to prepare to get raided by another clan.

It was executed really nicely. The entire chapter builds up the characters and the lore behind it and then puts you in the driving seat.

Chapter 2 was my favorite and this was one of the reasons why.

Thanks ya'll.

I don't want anything too too crazy, like we don't need some ridiculous artifact of ancient power, glowing swords that shoot lightning or dwarves and elves making an appearance.

But an ice cavern or ominous swirling skies wouldn't be the worst thing in the world.

Most PC gamers don't have the hardware to run the game at the fidelity of these videos. The majority of their possible customer base is being ignored.

Interesting that the other video has HairWorks running at 60 FPS ultra and it doesn't seem to have a massive effect on framerate at all? Same rig. Surely they werent different builds? Seems odd.

Yeah, the world of the Witcher must just be a pretty windy place. It doesn't seem to be as windy everywhere, though, and it might not be windy at all in other places in the world that we haven't seen yet. I like it either way. It makes the world feel more alive. I would prefer if they toned it down just a bit though.

Anyway, the game is just beautiful.

Dwarves and Elves are there. As are mages. The magic element is a lot more prolific than it seems. It's still very much high fantasy in a lot of ways, but with additional emphasis on politics and grit.

So that console owners can make informed decision about preordering the game. Most sane console owners know that it won't look as good as PC version on the highest settings (as they are shown off atm).

I am still confused about why is this even a debate? What other companies don't release games on all three platforms and lock ALL footage down to the PC version at present? I don't remember TW "downgrade" threads thus far have had anything to do with console versions or any other "downgrade" threads comparing the console version to PC version. Rather the assertions are based in chronology.

It sounds like someone should call all companies that develop games for all the platforms and tell them to show off the game that is only the highest settings on PC and then sell that as representative of how the game will actually look for everyone who buys the game (because that has gone over so well in the past).

The implication that some here are defending the idea of misrepresentation should CDPR (who are undoubtedly the creator of my favourite WRPG- yea, I have TW2 on 360) actually do it, is just sad.

Well, it looks like I picked the perfect time to upgrade.

I am avoiding watching too much though, just enough to see how much my eyes are gonna get wrecked.

Huh interesting, yeah the promo materials don't really play up the magic aspect aside from casting fire spark thingies in combat scenarios.

What you described sounds like a nice balance though. Excited to explore this world for the first time. :)
