Witcher 3 gameplay from YouTubers from CDPR event

I hope the controls are better in this one.

I'm currently playing through the Witcher 2 right now and it feels like there's an unnecessary learning curve to the reticle movement. It's similar to GTA in free aim mode. There's like a weird dead zone where you start moving the right stick one direction and all of a sudden it'll rocket across the fucken screen. There's enough to pick up in the battle system as it is, fighting with the controls doesn't help.

Heres impression from a guy that generally hate controllers.

He stops talking at 2:50.

Also, the reason the ultra quality video was only 720p was because the 1080p video was processing.

IT'S NOW AVAILABLE IN 1080P!

either way it isn't a big deal. the encoding quality sucks so bad that you don't lose all that much in 1080->720 for these particular youtube videos.

Didn't someone say that there was a 4K video up? Now that I'm home on a real monitor, I want to see what that looks like (albeit with terrible youtube compression).

And it's a god damned shame. But the reason I wanted to see a 1080p video was to see it full screen on a 1080p monitor.

Also his next video will talk in depth about combat, so I'm really looking forward to that. He should've said when to expect it so that I don't have to keep refreshing his page! :/

Yeah I'm doing the same thing, anyone know what his eta might be? driving me nuts!

Is that you assuming or did someone state it? Because Gopher outright says every setting for him was ultra, bar one: hairworks.

He says something else interesting too. Hairworks is a real performance destroyer, we'll see if it even works reasonably on a 980 at release, not that we couldn't have guessed this fact.

It is like people don't know that something like vimeo exists.

It means they adapted the full Witcher 2 experience admirably with the ancient hardware given to them in the 360 and should be commendable. They'll no doubt strive to give the Xbox One and PS4 versions the same dedication. Obviously it didn't look anywhere near as good on the 360 but no one expected it would, it still performed nicely.

Yeah I remember reading an interview awhile back where they talked about having to really work hard to get the 360 version of the Witcher 2 to turn out like they wanted, Even going as far as calling in some MS xbox guys to help them squeeze every little bit out of the 360.

Gamestar did say it works smoothly in their latest build...

Geralt was so ugly in Witcher 1, so I'll probably avoid that hairstyle like the plague :D

Ah, I still remember the Witcher 2 Geralt derpface before the new look was finalised.

It took a while, but I've really come to like the new Geralt's look - very fitting. OG hair is the best, though; it's not even a contest.
Me too. I upgraded to a 970 (I could not resist!) for this game, and hoping it can pull off 30-40 framerate with it on.
I did the same thing as you. I suspect we made the right choice.

Anyone says differently, plough 'em.
I hope much of The Witcher 2 cast make an appearance. I want to see Iorveth and Roache in the new engine.

Shani... Where are you~

It is like people don't know that something like vimeo exists.

These Youtubers have hundreds of thousands of subscribers. A few have well over a million. That's why they were invited to play the game and record it in the first place.

Youtube sucks for compression, but that's where people go to watch videos. And I'm willing to bet these people were only allowed to upload these videos to their channels and nowhere else (including Gamersyde..... sigh).

Yeah, this will likely sell 10+ million. Congrats to CD Projekt.

A little unrealistic, but I like your optimism.

2 to 3 million max

I think this is a little low. There are 3 platforms this time around. I'd expect 1-2 million each console and maybe 2-3 on PC. So between 4 and 7 million sounds about right. I hope for the higher number. I think with the rise of Game of Thrones its reasonable to expect a lot more people to be interested in the fantasy genre.

I hope so too man.

2 to 3 million max

With how much promoting they're doing, I would move the ceiling up to 5million in sales. They're really going all out to promote this and people are so thirsty for new gen titles. A similar comparison would be Bloodborne because of its existing hardcore audience, and that sold a million on one platform in a couple weeks. I could see them hitting 3 million by the end of this year and 5 million lifetime.

Good point, it opened the genre up quite a bit.

Wow, haven't been really paying attention to this game.. I'm on board after seeing those gameplay videos.
I should probably play Witcher 2 first though, bought it on sale a long time ago but haven't even downloaded it yet.

I tried TW2 twice and just couldn't get into it because I need my full story, so I watched TW1's condensed three-hour version on YouTube, but it chopped off too much and I was confused, so I started watching an entire 40-ish hour run of the game, but about 15 hours in school ramped up and I lost the time. ~_~

One day I will play this series in earnest.

Why the hell didn't BlimBlim go to Poland?! Grrr...

They're going balls out with the marketing. Witcher 3 had about the longest ad spot before Age of Ultron when I saw it yesterday (it was some IGN focus thing with Xbox branding)

Witcher 2 is at almost 3 million on Steam. Granted, it took a few years and a lot of sales, but now we also have two consoles where people are thirsting for new gen games. There are no competing releases and people love Skyrim. And PC gaming is bigger than ever.

What on earth are you talking about? Stuttering has absolutely nothing to do with refresh rate. Are you confusing it with screen tearing? I have 144hz screen but never experience any stutter even if the fps is 30. Stutter is a complete halt of video output, which has nothing to do with in-engine fps or screen refresh rate.

Microstutter is a term used to inconsistent frame drawtime, mostly problematic with SLI setups. Stutter is a term used for a complete halt of the picture, from the GPUs end.

Latter only happens when the hardware of conflicing with the drawcalls of the engine or it runs out of memory headroom and stalls to free it.

I'm sorry, but you're mistaken. Framerate dropping below refresh rate is the typical and by far most common cause of stutter.

Stutter occurs whenever the frame delivery is out of sync with the refresh rate of the display.

What you are talking about may be considered a form of stutter, but is more often referred to as hitching.

"Since their earliest days, displays have had fixed refresh rates – typically 60 times a second (Hertz). But due to the dynamic nature of PC games, GPUs render frames at varying rates. As the GPU seeks to synchronize with the monitor, persistent tearing occurs. Turning on V-SYNC (or Vertical-SYNC) can eliminate tearing but causes increased latency and stutter."

"With V-Sync, the GPU and display are synchronized to the vertical blanking interval where the GPU sends rendered frames to the display on a fixed cadence (60 times per second at 60Hz display refresh). There are two issues for gamers when using V-Sync:

Stuttering since the GPU might render frames at rates other than once every 1/60 sec."

I think 4-5 million in sales isn't far fetched. Between the drought of good "next gen only" games, the brouhaha over Skyrim's paid mods on PC, and just the size and quality of the content on offer here, I could see this game garnering wide appeal.

This game will be a Steam and GOG sale darling for years to come as well.

It likely sold that on preorders already.

My expectation is 6 million in two months.

I hope I am wrong. It is crazy to think it will do 6 million in 2 months though lol.

I could see 5-6 million across the three platforms assuming critical reception is strong.

Yeah, I could see this being a realistic short term number before we get into $5 fire sale territory. Witcher 2 was nearly at 2 million in its first year on PC alone, this one is day one on all 3 platforms and has a level of hype that is in another stratosphere compared with W2.

A niche game like Cities: Skylines sold a million after a month or so only on PC, i'm expecting The Witcher 3 to sell a lot more tbh.

Have any of the youtuber's posted the specs of the machines they were playing on?

They seemed to have a standard demo rig for everyone. A GTX 980 and Intel i7-4790, 16GB RAM (according to Gamestar). Gopher mention that it was a single 980 as well. Assuming everyone got the same config.

I haven't watched any yet. How do they describe the performance? I assume they were playing at 1080p.

Afraid she won't be putting in an appearance; it has been confirmed.

It always has irritated me that they let you choose her and ignore Triss completely(which I did, knowing nothing about Triss' overall story importance) in Witcher 1 only to then dump her entirely and make Triss a main character. I'll be playing PS4 this time and if they let me talk about love choices, I guess I'll retcon and pretend Shani didn't exist to me either.

Yeah. Seems it is a solid 60 with occasional drops at 1080p. Though hair works was disabled in this build (along with potentially some other max settings).

Was this due to the build, or should we expect GTX 980 won't be enough for 1080p60 at ultra, and that certain features like hairworks are just to big of a performance hit.

Ok guys, this IS the max/ultra settings "except for one option". Probably just a build that needs further tweaking (going by what Angry Joe said)

Straight from CDPR:

Yes. With the exception of one option.

Whether he is referring to hairworks (probably) or some other option is unclear. It's probably hair works.

Most likely the build. The official word is that a GTX 980 is good enough for 1080p60 ultra.

Not crazy at all. Watch Dogs did more than that and TW3 has similar, if not bigger, hype behind it, and unlike watch dogs it will also fully deliver in quality.

They have been advertising the game like crazy. Considering the huge fan base of skyrim and the lack of anything similar being released recently, I'd say they could do well.

Many people who aren't very familiar with the game believe that it's "the new, better Skyrim" (pardon my words), and let's be honest....it kind of is, but of course, we here know that's a vast understatement. Because of that I think the fans of Skyrim who really didn't know much about the Witcher will pick it up and enjoy it. I'm expecting 10 million sold in lifetime to be quite honest.

Confirmed that it is hairworks from Gopher's description and a screenshot he showed in his video.

it's new and improved but also significantly different in one respect. You are playing a premade character and therefore are much more predefined (no fancy magic, nor real stealth). Still, i agree this will vastly blow skyrim out of the water. Also if REDkit comes out i have no doubt that dedicated modders would be able to do some great things.

Therea actually only two things Im really curious about:
1- How is the game looking in XB1.
2- Has the combat gameplay been improved?

It's like Christmas came early with all of the these vids.

And I think I'll watch them all, except for that Angry Joe one, because I never watched him, plus reading the whole thread it sounds like it's bad anyways.

It is very, very unlikely that The Witcher 3 has already sold 2-3 million copies. That's an absurd estimate. 6 million in two months is also insane, this isn't Halo 4.

I'll gladly eat crow if I'm wrong on this, this games deserves to sell like hot cakes.
