Triss or Yennefer...I can't...

Deus Ex Human Revolution did that thing with their difficulty screen too. Easy was called "Tell Me A Story" etc. Any other recent examples?

Yea, the concern should more be if the features those HUD elements represent are adequately represented in the game.

Or rather, I hope so anyways. I want to run a minimal HUD but don't want to miss out on gameplay functionality.

I think the HUD is another one of those areas where this game is pulled between its action and RPG halves. While action games tend to have less and are trying to find ways to communicate these things within the world. WRPGs have traditionally had plenty of HUD and being really verbose in the amount of information is tosses at a player.

Unfortunately, I don't know if you're going to get what you want. As far as I've seen, most of these hud elements don't appear to have any other tells. Like that Horse doesnt appear to go through visible levels of stress, he just reaches max fear and dumps Geralt on his ass.

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=161796769&postcount=335 and 1st picture, "HUD Size". This to me implies that it scales all elements of HUD to value of that slider.

Yep, there is also the "rescale Hud" menu option that we have not seen.

Have they said if you can turn off the HUD in the console version?

All interviews that talk about HUD customization say that it's a thing within a game so one would assume that those toggles are also in console version.

Edit: All that I really know about Yennefer is that she is raven haired sorceress and was "true love" of Geralt. Will be interesting to learn more about her.

Which vid do you guys consider the best to watch? I watched Angryjoe and besides whatever they were smoking, it was a good vid. This game looks amazing.

Dude, just admit it. The water looks terrible and so does the foliage. The hair looks like straw and character models are atrocious and move like robots. The voice acting, too, is abysmal. Oh, the combat also sucks, they should make it like Souls games for it not to suck. The game also has MAJOR framerate issues. It's time to admit nobody is getting the game they were promised.

I agree on the foliage being not convincing. The problem in foliage is not the LOD models. The problem is the lighting the foliage system use (or don't use). It seems the game lacks backscattering (and even decent sub surface scattering if not non existant from start) on the foliage. The game foliage is nothing compared to teh foliage of Driveclub, Star Wars Battlefront (PBR + sub surface + back scattering, that is why foliage looks real there too), the Kite demo fro UE4 (the engine has the new double edge foliage lighting since UE4.7) eventhough it is heavily LODded which didin't prevent them to get realistic foliage thanks to this awesome lighting tech.

Ok, I know all the examples I mentioned used photogrammetry for foliage and environments but still without the lighting technique they wouldn't look so good.

Yeah, but it's Assassin's Creed. Open world pretty is all it had going for it.. any of the Witcher games grind it into the dust in terms of sheer depth.

I watched both of gophers videos and it seemed to feed my craving for more Witcher info. He doesn't divulge any major plot spoilers and instead focuses on the many highlights and few concerns of gameplay. Highly recommended.

Pretty sure a lot of people didn't bother playing the steaming pile of shit that was ACU, so yeah... this is still the first for most of us.

ACU is not a "steaming pile of shit". In fact, I really enjoyed it. Also - the fact that you didn't play it, doesn't mean it wasn't the first game to have the type of interiors we're discussing. Your logic is terrible.

I don't watch Gopher at all, none of his material is something I care about enough to keep watching continuously, but damn he knows how to speak. Segmenting the videos to cover topics, fluid transitions, he's really good at this. Everybody else just bets on whacky reactions to gameplay, while he calmly talks about the game in a very natural way. Big respect to him in this regard.

So... I'm just having a thought experiment and looking at this game being quite a hardware killer and I'm wondering if there even exists any hardware that would be capable of playing this game fully maxed at 4k res with 120fps for 120hz?

Would dual Titans be up for the job? I don't think so.

Something to look forward to with the next cards. It's amazing that amd haven't really released a new architecture for nearly 4 years considering the r9 range is just overclocked 7000 series.

My thirst for the witcher is real right now. In trying to play Witcher 2 on my PC and I have to play at 1028x768 right now and the framrate is a roller coaster on medium settings lol.

Getting my head around the combat and I know some people don't like it but I kinda enjoy how different it is.

Anyway really excited for the game and even more now since I have an idea of what's going on now lol.

How are you playing it?

You know, I would be perfectly happy if the PS4 version ended up looking about as good as the GTA V remaster does. I was playing it tonight for the first time in a few months and it truly is just gorgeous.

Not sure what you mean by that? I'm playing with KB/m. I'm still in the proluge. I did pt 3 then 1 and now I'm on pt 2.

For combat I was spamming alot in the tutorial but I've slowed down a lot now and I try my best to single out the biggest threats first and take them out as quick as I can.

One thing I'm still not getting is how reposite works. That and what's the difference for enemies with heavy and light attacks

Nope. Not even close. 4xTitan Xs will not be up for the job. Are there any displays in existence that can even handle that input? I don't think HDMI 2.0 cables can handle it either.

nah i meant how are you playing the Witcher 3 since it's not out yet? Or is it #2?

Are you playing The Witcher 2? That's still a moderately demanding game.

I, too, enjoyed the combat in The Witcher 2. I'm pretty adaptable to different combat systems. I've enjoyed everything from Ninja Gaiden and Devil May Cry to Dark Souls and Dragon's Dogma. While The Witcher 2's combat system wasn't perfect, it worked fine in the context of the game and I found it pretty enjoyable.

I am glad they've improved the responsiveness and dodging mechanics in the new game, though, since those were areas I thought could be improved.

Damn... so I guess that's really not a standard type of gaming setup... I reckon even 1440p is going to be hard for any cards to run this at ultra. Thankfully I'm putting this one on the couch mode I just wish there was a better way for selecting the different spells and bombs etc when using a controller.

I also recently finished Witcher 2 in Dark mode... that was damn hard. Damn hard I must say but saving every 5 minutes was a good idea.

I can't believe how insane 'Insane' mode must have been.

Of course it exists. As a prototype Nvidia will sit on for the next 10 years while they slowly pump out purposely limited cards so they can rest on their laurels. Having no real competition in the graphics card business means it'll be a while before we see serious innovation and true upgrades (at reasonable costs).

Good example of

ACU most definitely had a more realized world than both Witcher games. Even AC3 had a more realized world. Naturally since it came out afterwards.

Havent played it yet. Interiors in that seemed a little selective though, but yeah they were detailed and no loading i dont think. More talking about rpgs like Elder Scrolls etc.
1/4th of the buildings in Unity had interiors, (not counting historical buildings which have unique interiors) now consider that it's the densest AC game ever made. It's huge.

Majority of buildings have second floors as well. Meticulous is an understatement. But yea Witcher 3 will likely surpass it. They also did a good job of avoiding repeating interiors since npc spawns inside buildings are seemingly random.

I wish the steam controller was out already. Could be the perfect fit for the job. Still not sure about those trackpads, but there are more than enough buttons at least

Glad to see that every single Witcher thread on the internet still devolves into dick measuring of some kind.

Ditto, I was going to wait for it to come out before I started TW3 but I ended up liking the xbo controller more than I thought I would
