Witcher 3 gameplay from YouTubers from CDPR event

I really don't think it ever will. At best we can hope that they've just not shown anything with HBAO+ active, and that it'll work on the smaller vegetation.

I don't see why it wouldn't be. The YouTubers gave the impression that their games were maxed out on Ultra running everything. Even Hairworks was toggleable.

Heres a good visual comparison someone did.

To be fair, Skyrim's world was made with last gen consoles in mind so they were forced to implement loading screens for towns/houses/caves or otherwise consoles wouldn't handle it.

The Witcher 3 is releasing in 2015 as a PC lead and for the new consoles with atleast 5Gb of RAM compared to the 512mb that Bethesda had.

However Todd Howard hinted at lesser loading screens to no loading screens at all because they can now use all the new ram that is available cus of the new consoles. He said that in a Gamestar.de interview last year.

Welp! Just heard at the YouTube event that people turned the hairworks on and the 980 tanked. Just bought a 970 I'm going to cry in a corner somewhere :-(

Well it was old build they played so something like HairWorks most likely wasn't optimised. Also maybe I'm weird for thinking that tech like HairWorks is just fluff you put on if you have extra HW power to "waste". Hair in videos [from Geralt to random villagers] looks great imo, and this is without HairWorks.

They probably also hadn't finalized optimization for it yet either as I'd imagine they played a slightly older version at the event.

CPU PhysX != GPU Accelerated PhysX (Such as HairWorks)

What?

As far I know PhysX is ran on GPU when you have Nvidia GPU and on CPU when you have AMD GPU. PhysX is physics engine with some other functions included.

PhysX and HairWorks are two different, separate, Nvidia techs.

That is my understanding, am I wrong?

Edit: They are listed as separate technologies on Nvidia's site; http://www.geforce.com/hardware/technology/physx & http://www.geforce.com/hardware/technology/hairworks

I bet whoever made that was an asshole.

Your regular whoreson

Regardless, I'm curious if AMD cards will run W3 as smoothly as their Nvidia counterparts, given all the integrated tech (like Hairworks) that the game seems to boast.

I found something for all the people that are looking for a recap or at least something that gives information prior to heading into Wild Hunt.

I bet whoever made that was an asshole.

The main reason for so many loading screens is that despite the bells and whistles tacked on, Skyrim is still running on a 15+ year old game engine that is all modded out. There is still nothing they can do about the whole interior / exterior cell issue.

Have: 780GTX, i7 4770k, 16gb ram

want: 1080p, max settings, 60fps

can I do it?

If we are to believe CDPR you can't, they say you need GTX980 to max out the game and get 1080p60.

They better have good proper engine for next ES/Fallout that enables them to ditch loading screens in same fashion as Witcher 3 is ditching them. Talk about new standard for open world RPG's when it comes to how loading is handled.

PhysX Physics are just the general physics systems that can be run on basically any thing (CPU or GPU) and are used in a lot of games, even on consoles. ArmA III uses Physx for it's CPU driven vehicle physics systems, for example.

GPU driven PhysX are things like GPU accelerated particles (think Borderlands 2 or Metrol Last Light) or HairWorks which require a Nvidia GPU since they are CUDA accelerated.

To be fair, TES has a lot to keep track of with it's NPCs. Every one of them having routines, inventories, combat behaviors, dialogues and dispositions. Not to mention the immense number of intractable objects in every area/cell.

I'm hoping that the added visual and mechanical complexity of the next Bethesda RPG doesn't force them to make the same interior/exterior concessions as before. If you had asked me back when Morrowind released whether I thought that interior/exterior cells would still be a big hurdle ten years later, I'd have said no.

Let's hope this game lights a fire under the asses of Bethesda and Bioware alike.

W3 has 2000 npcs if I remember correctly, with the 24 hour routine, dialogues, etc. It's also a rpg ;).

But I give you one thing, I doubt it will have as many objects as a TES game, where you can pick every plate and spoon and everything.

Yeah, that will be a difference I'm sure. Not that I care about any of that.

And even then, not with hairworks. You'll need a dual GPU solution for that. Looking like a similar performance hit as TressFX most likely (i.e. 40% lower frames).

I believe one of them said it also had a lot to do with shadow play, as that was being used for game capture.

I bet whoever made that was an asshole.

Dat self deprecation!

I think your hopes will come true. Here's a part of an Interview where Todd is talking about that very point: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V0MpuiYJkuI&t=20m12s

So does that mean those with dedicated PhysX cards will see no benefit?

Yeah. Things related to DirectCompute must run on a Display GPU (unless the nvidia driver has the capability to offload it to a physx card). I don't know how it is allocated to gpus in Sli or Xfire.

Heh,, TW3 is in every way more complex than that.. maybe not interactive items, but they have items with light, medium and heavy weight and well, you have the sign Aard at your disposal :) and the interiors in TW3 are looking to be very detailed
