Witcher 3 gameplay from YouTubers from CDPR event

And even then, not with hairworks. You'll need a dual GPU solution for that. Looking like a similar performance hit as TressFX most likely (i.e. 40% lower frames).

I understood that their statement about GTX980 requirement included HairWorks being on on top of everything being on Ultra. TressFX, at least iteration that TR uses, is such abomination and kills performance like no ones business :(

Awesome chart there BTW.

Todd Howard has already said that they won't be making the same load screen stuff in their next game. Hinting at the fact that the next Fallout is next-gen exclusive IMO (I say hint so I'm not truly disappointed if it does not lol)

Some of y'all are being harsh on Skyrim's tech, for the denominator it had to run on it's quite a accomplishment. (However I still find the PS3 version inexcusable lol)

FunkyLounge gets it,
To be fair, the new consoles have 16x times the RAM, this is absolutely pointless. Compare it to the current gen Bethesda RPG when it's released, that is going to be much more interesting

Back to W3, I don't see why we can't have the thick foliage on PS4 at least. Even if they have to scale back draw distance. (I was mostly happy with RDR PS3 mind you, so this is a real treat haha)

wow that's a HORRIBLE pie-chart. Especially when most of the colours look the same o.O

They could have atleast put the names into the pie-chart aswell

They are listed in the right order from biggest to smallest already, not that hard to see what's what.

Edit: Should've refreshed before posting. :P

I won't be surprised if rendering distance for objects is 1:1 on all platforms;

Is it possible to adjust draw distance on PC version?
No. Most distances (e.g. for meshes) are set in assets.

Anyways back to topic: I think I won't be too interested in the story of the game, especially when I never played the previous Witcher games. I watched some recap videos on YT tho and tbh the story was more confusing than exciting to me. Felt like watching an episode of LOST after not watching the series for like 2-3 seasons.

You found some bad recaps then :/ And no, I don't know any good ones right from the bat. There was few threads floating around week or so ago tho.

I got it before him >:l

I'm just going to wander around from village to village and will help wherever Ican, be it searching mushrooms in the nearby woods for an old lady that can't walk or killing some local wolves/monsters/whatever that terrorize the area. I feel like the real immersion comes more often with all the sidequests and locations you can discover. Story line is just like a campaign mixed into openworld (which I hope won't be forced on you after some time).

Sorry bud lol, was on different page (50 post pages)

And same here. I just make my own story and then do the campaign for more bombastic feeling. Still didn't "beat" Fallout 3 and NV, despite putting over 300 hours between them.

To be fair, Skyrim's world was made with last gen consoles in mind so they were forced to implement loading screens for towns/houses/caves or otherwise consoles wouldn't handle it.

The Witcher 3 is releasing in 2015 as a PC lead and for the new consoles with atleast 5Gb of RAM compared to the 512mb that Bethesda had.

However Todd Howard hinted at lesser loading screens to no loading screens at all because they can now use all the new ram that is available cus of the new consoles. He said that in a Gamestar.de interview last year.

To be fair, TES has a lot to keep track of with it's NPCs. Every one of them having routines, inventories, combat behaviors, dialogues and dispositions. Not to mention the immense number of intractable objects in every area/cell.

I'm hoping that the added visual and mechanical complexity of the next Bethesda RPG doesn't force them to make the same interior/exterior concessions as before. If you had asked me back when Morrowind released whether I thought that interior/exterior cells would still be a big hurdle ten years later, I'd have said no.

Let's hope this game lights a fire under the asses of Bethesda and Bioware alike.

To be fair, I only posted that to illustrate that Skyrim wasnt really one big contiguous "fully open world" game.

Don't worry, it's a good point. Several times people have asked, "is it open world like Skyrim?" and then other people answer "it's divided up in two worlds and a few single instances blah blah blah". It's good to remember that Skyrim also wasn't truly a single continuous open world, while in W3 the villages cities and interior rooms all are in the same map.

so...I have been playing Witcher 2 since I never had a PC that could play the game at 1080/60 ultra and for such a highly rated game, it seemed to have some issues

1. the combat feels clunky after playing dark souls 2 & bloodborne - clunky as in slow to act to button presses, and not a lot of specific moves to choose (I imagine this changes as you unlock moves in the skilltree.) also had a big problem with many of my casts of the fire sign just hitting the ground instead of the enemy - which was frustrating with point 2

2. The difficulty just seems to vary widely. Fighting "bosses" was extremely easy, yet as soon as I went through the forest outside flotsam I got destroyed by the enemies - spiders, nekkers (or whatever those weird gollum like creatures were) Since I just want to get through the game for story before W3, I put the difficulty down to easy and it was still very challenging and this is just act 1. I was using potions before fights, varying signs based on enemy type, trying to only pull a single enemy at a time.

I really just didnt enjoy the combat versus the Dark Souls/BB games since I felt like I was unresponsive in battle or my signs failed to target properly versus making mistakes in DS

This isnt meant to be a dig at the game - the level of detail is amazing, and the game often looks incredible. I like the combat more than the skyrim melee combat.

I also think Witcher 3 looks amazing so I am on board day one (I actually got free code with Titan X, but would have preordered anyway had I not) but hopefully the combat is more refined in this one.

Personally, as someone who only dabbled in W1 and then played W2, but tried getting into the story details along the way, I didn't care for it. But to me, W3 has a somewhat simpler series of major plot lines and character importance that are much more exciting to follow. Ciri, Yennefer, and the Wild Hunt are all considerably more exciting concepts to me than the political fantasy stuff W2 did (but then again I have a low tolerance for the extremely common European fantasy aesthetic that Witcher is largely part of).

Hopefully it really grabs me in the game, but the structure of the world alone has really sold me. I like a visually well-imagined open world.

How is this not the same in the Witcher 3 though?

Infact, in the witcher 3 NPc's actually react to the time of day AND the weather!

'course Skyrim was made for decade old hardware.

So does anyone think CDPR will release a standalone game with Ciri's portion? I kinda have no interest in playing as Geralt.

Oh god. I lost my hard drive that had the witcher 2 saves on it and thankfully they are in the steam cloud. We can import it into 3 right?

Is there any word on the possibility of creating world states for PS4? You know, like the Inquisition thingy.

Dandelion will sing you a song to which you can make alterations if you want to and that will create world state for you.

This is available on all platforms.

Are they really going to encrypt a drm-free game in GoG so they can do preload?

They kinda have to put encryption in place for preload or take some key files out. Otherwise we have .torrent up moment preload goes live and pirates get to play instantly.

Let me just ask... why on earth would you want this? Ciri's tiny little bits won't make a lick of sense without knowing what's going on in the other 99% of the game. And no, they're never going to do this.. they have absolutely no reason to do so, and a number of reasons NOT to, like that whole, you know.. being integral to the rest of the story that TW3 is telling.

Yeah I agree with this. Normally a developer pays for a license to a well known brand/IP like tolkien so that it increases the audience. For me, using the IP was a negative since I was forced to play as a character I couldnt customize (this is understandable since they went for the story approach) and I just felt completely lost and confused about all the different characters, factions and historical references. To me, it was the worst of both worlds.

I'm actually disappointed that you cant choose which character to play in W3 since I would fine with never playing as geralt (since he was in W2)

It's probably as likely as releasing any other game with 80% of missions missing. So, uh, no. How is this even a question

I kinda agree. I only need one fantasy series that focuses heavily on the political aspect of things, and that's Game of Thrones. I thought TW2 was good to great too, but the more fantastical stuff in TW3 with Wild Hunt, Ciri etc is far more interesting to me.

I wouldn't worry too much about world state. The series has never propped itself up like Mass Effect where your choices are supposed to have massive impact, or at least very noticeable impact between titles. They handle it well enough but it's usually lines of dialogue and cameos and such, sometimes slight alteration to a quest arc.

Yeah but TW2 were pretty heavy i think, between
deciding the fate of Henselt and the whole Northern Kingdom armies
and
choosing what to do of Foltest daughter
should have some impact bigger than simple cameos.

Speaking of cameos, you guys think we'll see Roche/Iorveth/Letho?

Google translate gives "Review of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - after 12 hours of playing" for title.

It should, but I also don't think it's any coincidence that The Witcher 2's canonical royal deaths also happen to be rulers of the south most Northern Realms, which by the time Wild Hunt starts should be heavily conquered by Nilfgaard. No Man's Land is pretty much in Termeria, if I'm right, whereas the upper half of that map around Novigrad is Redania. I figure stuff like that will factor a lot into the dialogue and maybe end states, assuming Nilfgaard are pushed back, and thus what is done with Temeria.

I'm sure we'll see cameos of Roache, Iorveth, and Letho. I'd be surprised if we don't, and Letho is the only one who can possibly die.

I don't think so. Th game is set well after the war has begun, which gives them lots of room to mix things up.

We already know that... (spoilers 5 minutes into TW3)
Radovid has appropriated the North and "promises" to restore sovereignty when it is over. Temeria and Aedirn have already fallen to Nilfgaard, so what happened with Foltests daughter isnt going to change anything. If you eventually meet up with Roche he might mention how smart it was to team up with Radovid when he did. If you chose not to hand her over, you find out that he took the child and fled to Radovid anyway because it was the only way to protect her.

I am not sure of the state of the books in english, but have you read them yet man? Seems right up your alley. I am reading the first one right now (in german though) and it is fantastic.

They have said that if you're going to transfer your saves from TW2, it maybe opens up new quests, maybe some new charaters.. that there are going to be bigger changes from TW1 to TW2

This is available on all platforms.

I also read somewhere that it wont be Dandelion singing, instead it will be a barber chatting with Geralt while shaving his beard. During that chat Geralt will be giving answers to his questions which will help the game create the world state as one wants to be or simply choose not to respond to him and it will result in a default world state.

Either ways, CDPR confirmed that previous decisions wont affect the overall story of TW3 that much.
