Witcher 3: Official Gameplay Trailer

Haven't CDPR showcased X1 version few times already? It's PS4 footage that is MIA.

I believe we've only seen the Xbox version during the E3 stage demo. PS4 version was supposedly shown off at TGS but nothing was released besides some screenshots in famitsu. At their big press event they let people play all 3 and even had a kiosk set up to show them all side by side. The consensus is pretty much what you expect, PC > PS4 > Xbox.

Since they have a marketing deal with MS, I do wonder if we'll see the PS4 version prior to release. If it is a contractual thing, I wonder if they can get around it by releasing a Japanese trailer.

Wasn't really interested in this game, as I couldn't really get into W2. The controls just felt super funky to me so I didn't give it much time.

This, though... well, let's just say I'm gonna be getting a new video card in the next month. I only want to hit 60@1080p. Will a 970 + 3570k get me there?

EDIT: To note, I watched the video in OP. Really not interested in seeing IGN's take after the ridicule above.

DONE!
Whoa, that art direction! I really like where theyre going with this style, IMO much better than the reveal trailer that just looked like Witcher 2(.9).

I'm sorry to ask this here, couldn't find another more appropriate The Witcher thread.

What are the preorder perks of digital purchase on PS4 ?
i know on the standard physical edition you get the Game, Map, Manual, Soundtrack, Stickers, Witcher Universe Comdendium. so if i decide to go digital, will i miss all that stuff ?
i mean ofcourse i'll miss the physical stuff, just wondering if there are some other digital stuff that will compensate

Question about this series: are you able to customize your characters face/gender or is it always the white haired dude with the scar on his face?

All I've heard is that you get a PS4 theme.

Nope, you can only customize his hair and beard. These games are based on a series of books featuring Geralt (the white haired dude) and Ciri (his "adopted daughter"). You spend 90% of the game as Geralt, and there will be small section when you play as Ciri.

Yeah they need to stop using terrible PS2-era models

tw335muiz.jpg

Never said they was that bad, but now you mention it that hair is some PS2 era hair.
Sorry but the character models just stand out as cartoony compared to the rest of the game, it's pointless posting screens of them thinking I'm gonna be impressed by textures and details when it's the actual models that are are the problem.
Bloodborne is even worse, like I said the character models are a little disappointing.

Care to give us some examples that *do* impress you.

That way we can tell you that you're wrong with proper examples.

He must just mean faces (if anything). Vesemir body/armor is incredible, only game that has something better is The Order.

Yeah, the order is pretty nice. It is also a 6 hour game, with a limited amount of characters. Either way, what is there to be disappointed about the faces in this game? To be disappointed, you have to be expecting something else...

I'm guessing that the comparison will be with AAA games that have motion captured faces of actors now, and look super realistic, but that's no way the industry's standard imo.

Pretty much anything released in the past 2 years really.

Get the fuck out of here.
You seriously just used GTA3?
He must just mean faces (if anything) (Unity has more realistic ones for the main characters). Vesemir body/armor is incredible, only game that has something better is The Order.
See he gets it.

Guys it's pointless getting defensive about it
it's just the way they designed it, and it's not a bad thing its just disappointing compared to rest game.

DA:I is a game where I'd say has cartoony character models. Can't say the same for TW3.

Unity's hair is better, but otherwise TW3's models are easily on-par IMO.

I agree on still, but most of the dialogue of Geralt still seems a bit stiff (for necessity since there is so much dialogue) compared to the high production cutscenes of games like Unity or Ryse. I think the fact that we are comparing a rpg with the cream of the crop of AAA graphics speak volumes of its top noch production design, I'm not disappointed with the game at all.

True, but there's a lifelessness in the animation compared to Unity to me.

Perhaps, but the conversation wasn't about animation quality.

Well if we do want to add animation quality then absolutely, I agree. TW3's facial expressions are by far and ahead the best non-mocapped system we've seen, but as you pointed out, it's definitely stiffer than the likes of GTAV, Ryse or AC:U. A good and fair comparison I guess would be DA:I vs TW3, both huge AAA RPG's and TW3 has DA:I completely knocked out of the park by years on that front.
As you said, I think the fact that a studio like CDPR is able to go toe-to-toe with the really huge studios making these more focused, specific action titles (That they can mocap much easier) is a huge testament to the talent at CDPR.

It's just comments like TGO's that irk me, straight up hyperbolic nonsense.

You can customize his hair style and beard. This is a game about an already set character.

Ahh, cool cool. I'd never played the series before so this will be my first experience with it. Pretty hyped!

The character models in unity are very variable in quality. The main characters look great, the others not so much.

From what I've seen the W3 has stuck a really great balance.

Yeah, nor should anyone else, unless they have insane expectations.

Unity's character (Elisse?) was the best model in all the game, imo.

Honestly, I think Witcher 3 will move better than Unity. In particular the framerate tanked in the cutscenes in AC Unity, which are the moments when you could see her face and hair.

Right, but my point was it doesn't matter as much how on par they are if one is inferior to the other in bringing the models to life. To me at least. It just pulls me out of the scenes a little more.

I don't think DA:I to W3 is an apt comparison for animation quality. Animation in DA:I was appaling, partly because Bioware and also because they had last gen contraints.

dude.....stop. Just stop.
you quoted the wrong person...Look up a few preceding comments.

Good point. Mass Effect series was a big offender, and it bugged me constantly.

Well I absolutely and completely respect that.

If that was the point TGO had tried to make, I wouldn't have fought one bit, but he tried to say the models look poor, and that's just nonsense.

You're right to an extent, but even games like FC4 & Crysis 3 were "restricted" by last-gen, and still had decent/great models.
It's probably a little unfair because we all know how awful BioWare's models/animation is in general, but considering there's essentially no other AAA RPG's released this gen (At least not big multiplat blockbusters), it's really the only remotely apt comparison I could think of.

Bioware did state that they had serious RAM budgeting issues and that one of the things that went out of the window was animation.

Ah well considering it's a massive RPG that does make sense. It was the most apt comparison I could think of, but perhaps even then it's still much too unfair.
Hopefully we'll see some comparable RPG's not too far in the future, mostly because more RPG's is absolutely a good thing.
