With MS porting popular titles over, Hellblade II is one I haven't heard anyone ask for.

So I guess everyone in this thread hates Quantic Dream games and Until Dawn…

The hypocrisy is astounding…

Now do Quantic Dream games and Until Dawn. Are they tech demos?

I don't care for any of those games myself, but those are not carbon copies of Hellblade 2 so I don't see the hypocrisy either way.

Because it’s honestly just boring and not a good game.

I’m not saying her acting isn’t good or that the story isn’t good because it’s obviously well acted and I never played long enough to actually know the story but overall the game isn’t really something that is good enough to desire.

It’s a running joke that PlayStation users enjoy walking sims, or that’s what is used to describe some first-party studio games. But it’s largely hyperbole.

Third-person games are fine, cinematic games are fine. But they still need to have good gameplay.

Why does the “consensus” matter when most gamers are normie casuals? Most gamers consider COD, Madden and Fortnite fine delicacies. Most gamers have no taste. Hellblade 2 is a great game. Its like a Quantic Dream game with way more gameplay and the best visuals in history in a video game. No one complains about Quantic Dream games for lack of gameplay…

You're a gamer, aren't you?

So after all of this time, is anyone even wanting this game or is it true that people really didn't care about it outside of the graphics?

Yes, there are people outside of the cranky old gentlemen's club of GAF who want the Hellblade sequel on their platform. There were people who enjoyed the first game, who were intrigued by what they saw of the sequel, and who were frustrated that this follow-up game wasn't on a platform they had to play it on. The future of the franchise (including possible ports) is in jeopardy, but this thread probably isn't a great indicator of who would care if offered to buy this game elsewhere.

MS does have some questions to work out about how to consider this. Pricing could be a challenge (it's $35 on Xbox and Steam right now, which feels about right for the scale and previous game expectations, even if it is a limited-playability game.) Bundling HB1&2 may be a more viable package, even if the game is already on past-gen stores for PS5 and Switch. Also timing can't be a priority, as it did little in unit sales on Xbox (granted that it was on Game Pass) or PC and would be a waste/dangerous diversion if developer Ninja Theory had to spend a lot of time on new ports. And there's just the frank matter of the franchise's future viability, of whether or not the audience of Hellblade fans and curious gamers is big enough to support the port effort; it is UE5 and the hard work is done, but if there's no chance of a HB3 and if low Steam sales tell the tale, even minimal effort may be a questionable line item.

I still think that, with MS rumored to be porting everything else (except, humorously, Halo Infinite,) it's likely just a matter of time for Hellblade to come around.

It's a decent (mostly audiovisual) experience to finish as part of monthly GP subscription, but that's it. I definitely wouldn't pay for a PS5 copy, even though I own Hellblade 1 on PS4.

I'm more surprised that Ninja Theory still exists, I assumed they would be shut down several months after releasing the game.

The resources to port games to PS5 are limited, nobody wants a technical demo like Hellblade 2, nor a disaster like Redfall, etc... it's a waste of time.

People complaining about “no gameplay” and never mention other games with way less gameplay…
world of warcraft legion GIF

You think people have to reference every game that has similar faults to a game they don't like? Lots of folks simply don't agree with your take that those games have less gameplay. That's not hypocrisy. Simply a difference of opinion.

Are Quantic Dream games tech demos?
just answer me one thing, how much replayability Hellblade 2 has ?

Heavy Rain has 7 endings
Beyond two souls has 10 endings
Detroid has 3 "main" endings ( if you only count the flowcharts, there are 85 endings, 13 for Connor, 33 for Markus and 39 for Kara )

So there is no comparison here, even if you consider QD games as "tech demos" they have infinitely more content to be PLAYED than Hellblade 2 ll ever have.

I'd consider paying $15-20 for it. I did enjoy the first game. I've been turned off by a lot of what was said about the second game, but it's probably better to judge for myself.

If you were to ask people during the launch of Hellblade II if that game was amazing, you'd hear hyperbole such as GOTY, one of the most fun titles, blah blah.
Gonna provide proof of that? Because from my recollection, it was pretty much graphics are great, game is borderline ok.

Blah blah blah.

Here you go
Nah, first 10 entries on the first page has as much folk saying it’s crap than there are saying it’s great. There will be a few that loved it (like every game), but it certainly wasn’t the general consensus.

He never said it was the "general consensus". This has all been talked about already. Read the thread.

And he also didn’t explicitly specify the three people that said the things he claimed. What’s your point caller? 🙃

I think we can all agree why nobody wants this game on PS (although I’m still ok with having played it - it wasn’t terrible, and looked incredible).

I have no interest personally. Played the first game and thought the combat was awful, and the puzzles were abysmal. Story was pretty good but the novelty wore off quickly. Hellblade 2 apparently did nothing to address the shortcomings of the first, it was just more of something I already experienced that was OK, but with better graphics.

The games people are asking for (Halo/Gears) were standouts in their genre that people would buy an Xbox for. I think it’s safe to say few people bought an Xbox for Hellblade 2.

I agree but during the time, people were literally saying it was GOTY material. As a gamer, I just love playing games about a mental disorder I don't suffer from.

Who was saying that? How many were saying it? My recollection is that the reception was pretty lukewarm with little hype, and then it quickly disappeared. Of course there are always outliers, but yeah.

But you don’t “play” them. You can watch them on YouTube Am I right?

It's essentially a tech demo. They now need to use their tech and make a video game with it.

Yep. That’s me. Hellblade 2 deserves award nominations for Melina’s performance and visuals. What a daft callout 🤣

your OP talks about gameplay and overall quality. And it’s telling you can’t find anything in my post history pushing that at all.

Oh, I know some folks like Miku have sung its praises. But the impression from the majority of players here isn’t consistent with that at all.

I could pull posts from the Rise of the Ronin threads calling it their GOTY. Doesn’t make it anywhere near consensus.

To be fair there is an art to the original statements you make in these cases, it is worded specifically to give you a way to move the goalpost and then keep arguing / splitting hair by deflecting accusations of goalpost moving. Just one word of advice, when you are this good at shilling, do not do it for free :p.

Yes, but Ozriel meant “thought about it for real”; even astroturfers often do not buy what they sell so to speak ;).

A wild warrior appears!

…what exactly am I supposed to be ‘shilling’ in this conversation? Hellblade 2?

Comprehension doesn’t really work that way. But I’ll gladly teach you for a fee 😆

If you were to ask people during the launch of Hellblade II if that game was amazing, you'd hear hyperbole such as GOTY, one of the most fun titles, blah blah. The same PlayStation fans who were being accused of just hating the game for being Xbox exclusive I've seen cheering on even bringing Starfield and Halo Infinite for that matter haven't been calling to bring what some journalists were saying was a rock star game.

So after all of this time, is anyone even wanting this game or is it true that people really didn't care about it outside of the graphics?

I never knew Pentiment and Hi Fi were popular. Thanks for the heads up Troll.

I can't be the only one who wants to play it on ps5. It will probably do better than it did on xbox for sales and I doubt the port would be expensive to make.

I've never played this game or its predecessor. Does the game play include any kind of challenge or do you basically just push forward as people suggest in this thread?

The gameplay is competent, but the attention was primarily put into the graphics, high production values, story telling, characters, themes, etc... and it does it well.

You have difficulty settings, however this game is more of what I call an "experience" game. As long as you have your expectations properly set, you're more likely to put on your headphones and enjoy the overall experience.

This thread is whats wrong with the gaming industry…

If you don’t like Hellblade 2 fine, but don’t come in trash talking recklessly. Sometimes Neogaf is like a childish subreddit..

The one game that gives us actual next gen graphics and a cinematic presentation is trashed talked, but not madden #363727 or #COD 3737278. There are many other games with no gameplay at all or Quantic Dream style games and no one says a thing…

Refer to my thread about this…

Dude, the title is inviting people who are not interested in the game to comment on it. You shouldn't expect much more.

You didn't know about Hi Fi? Forza Horizon 5? Sea of Thieves? Possibly Gears, Halo and more?

Did you just start gaming?

Sea of Thieves was that the game trolls made fun of and said sold like crap Rare are dead Ect . Never mind the talk if how they didn't need it because Skull and Bones was shown off at the same E3.

Those were the days ..

Wrong….shills like Klobrille were saying it was a 10/10. Almost nobody after that called it GotY. That made me lose any respect for him.

Let's say it costs 100k to port. The game would need to sell 1666 copies of the game at 60$ a pop to justify.

That's a tall order for this .

You'd be surprised how large a market there may be for good graphic walking simulators on Playstation.

It would probably do pretty well if they priced it at thirty bucks
