Anyway, I don't think it was mentioned in the last thread, but Collide had the worst second weekend decline* of all time for a wide release last week: -88.5%
*If you don't count Delgo completely disappearing from theaters before its second weekend.
Star wars won't make $850M by Dec 31st. But this year already has some money from Rogue One and other holdovers.
I'm curious to see if the July placeholder stands. I can't think of any smaller Disney titles entering production in the past few months.
This is true. I I think it was the best thing since TDK, but I'll never ever rewatch it. It was too powerful for me. Repeat viewings must be at an all time low for CBM.It doesn't help that the movie is a super fucking downer.
I had a feeling about Kong strengthening based on word of mouth. My theater was only half-full Thursday night but everyone was really into it and it sounded like a full house. I think audiences are realizing this is even better than Jurassic World and spreading the word. I hope it can keep it up as BatB and GitS are just around the corner.
Kong wasn't a very good human movie but delivered on Kong himself. I feel like he is supposed of be the humanity analogue to Godzillas "mother earth" analogue. I'm not sure who I am gonna be rooting for when they fight.
They become best friends after discovering both their mothers are named Mothma.I bet something causes Godzilla to rage out, and he's the baddie for a portion of the film and Kong the protector. Godzilla breaks free of what's causing him to go berserk right when the real monster/threat appears, and him and Kong team up for the ultimate beat down.

It'll be my go-to date movie for the next few weeks too so that'll give it an extra 2-3 million dollars
No SAO?
Any chance of getout in china?
The real winner with Kong anyway is Universal who is probably getting a percentage without lifting a finger.
$160m reported budget for B&B. It'll probably make its money back in the opening weekend.
Probably profitable just based on all of the licensed crap that film will push.
Logan increased slightly in the actuals. Get Out decreased a bit. Kong was right on.
This thing will probably end up in the bargain bin before the end of the month.
Kong had too high of a budget, how could they not do that on 120 million or so

Tom Hiddleston's tight blue t-shirts aren't cheap.
Pretty sure it has nowhere else to open.Does Fifty Shades have more territories to open in still? Its WW total so far is only about half of the first one.
LOS ANGELES MARCH 14, 2017 Prior to its opening this Friday, Disneys live-action Beauty and the Beast has already set a new record as Fandangos #1 family pre-seller of all time, with Beauty pre-sales (through Monday night) already eclipsing total pre-sales for any other family film in Fandangos 17-year history.
Beauty is outpacing the previous family pre-seller champ, Finding Dory, and superhero movies like Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Age of Ultron and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice at the same point in the Fandango sales cycle.
Logan is now over X-Men Apocalypse's domestic total. It will take another week or so to pass it worldwide.
X-Men Apocalypse's reported budget was $178M. Logan's was $97M

Can some box office enthusiasts explain to me why bad faith-based movies do well at the box office but great ones like Silence not hit it? Is it because Silence wasn't about American Christians in America?

Is Get Out ever going to open Internationally?
So if you're Fox right now, why even fucking bother making a high budget, PG-rated superhero movie.
The two R-rated films made more money, were critically acclaimed, and are a fantastic way to differentiate yourself from Marvel and DC (well, DC for now).
Because we haven't seen what happens when you make film at this mid-level and it turns out legitimately not good/bad. You look at DC, and even though those movies are nearly universally derided as not being very good, you're still looking at more than $700 million worldwide. Amazing Spider-Man 2 ended up over that number as well (and the truth of the matter is that the reason Sony re-rebooted Spider-Man wasn't because it wasn't good, it was because the whole point of the first reboot was to try to get the budget in check and they completely fucked that up by the time ASM2 rolled around). If Mangold had flubbed on the execution of Logan, are we looking at a $300 million worldwide take (what Passengers has ended up at)? Or something even lower? You're not going to hit on each one of these (well, unless you're Marvel), but we generally know the floor for the PG movies is still fairly high.

Fantastic 4 made $167 million on a $120 million budget
that's the floor
