it's going to be a steeper drop here than with avatar
it's not going to be pretty
Don't really get too much into numbers is tfa going to beat out titanic ?
It already beat it in the US if you don't adjust for inflation.Don't really get too much into numbers is tfa going to beat out titanic ?
The ninth rightDepends entirely on china at this point
The ninth right
On a scale of 1 to Morton, how salty is Lucas right now? His blood probably has dangerously high levels of sodium chloride.

It is possible that it will beat it internationally and inflation-adjusted US.
Yup.
Also it's going to beat Titanics initial run guaranteed. Remember it did have a re-release... which somehow got it another $600 mil WW lol
90.2 was the weekend actual for Episode VII it looks like.
Edit: Beaten.
Episode IX: Star PeaceSigh I'm tired of all these star wars

I know it's January but Star Wars' third weekend still being more than the previous December OW record is crazy.
Has any movie every had the record for highest weekend in two different months before?
I just find TFA setting the January record with its 3rd weekend so crazy that it's hilarious.
To your question: no, it looks like TFA will be the only one to hold record weekends on two separate months.
He's the richest filmmaker on the planet. I think he'll be okay.
The Star Wars special edition release robbed Titanic from doing the same. Before 1997, the January weekend record was the opening of 12 Monkeys with less than 14m I believe. Star Wars bumped that to 35m.
Actually, unless I am missing something on Mojo, Titanic's second weekend was the December record and its 8th and 9th weekends were both February records at the time of its run.
The Special Edition doing what it did in (what was supposed to be) limited release in January is still kinda something.
It made just short of 36 mil its opening weekend, in January (beating the previous record by more than double)
It wasn't until March that it had a single weekend with a drop higher than 40%.
It actually GAINED theaters from January to February (from 2100 to 2400)
It's success prompted the pushing back of the Empire and Jedi re-releases by a week each.
It made about 138 domestic and 120 mil worldwide.
No shit?It will never beat Avatar WW.
So whats all the fuss is about? irrelevant domestic 'record'?No shit?
My favorite Titanic box office factoid: Valentine's Day was the largest daily take for the film at $13m, 58 days into its run. I've wanted to see if any other films had their record day so late after their initial wide expansion (excluding re-releases), but don't know of an easy way to look.
Depending on your definition of wide, I would check My Big Fat Greek Wedding. Thats the only other film that comes to mind.

This new "no one has ever cared about #1 domestic before" talking point is weird, especially since it's so easy to disprove.
Virtually no one actually cared about worldwide totals prior to Titanic.
The salt in strong in this one.So whats all the fuss is about? irrelevant domestic 'record'?

I think the point here is that Lucas very much cared about BO performance and records.
Ya. I mentioned that last thread. I was obviously a nerdy child, so I was reading box office stats in stuff like the local paper and the Guiness Book of records during the very early 90s before I was 10. I dont even remember them listing worldwide records for films. It wasn't until I got internet in the mid 90s that I learned Jurassic Park was actually the number 1 film in the world. All that was ever mentioned was E.T. at $399m domestic.
Slumdog Millionaire had its largest single day gross 109 days in.
Never watched Avatar.Getting the #1 Domestic and possibly gettig the #2 worldwide is not worth a fuss? Of course it is. That's huge. Some Avatar fans sounding really insecure.
Not really. You're the only one fussing right about now, Cup.
Personally, I never pay attention to region records. Its boring. "Number 1 in the entire world" is alot more news worthy in my opinion.Since when has the domestic record become irrelevant? Please explain.
Well I agree.Nothing has happened. We shouldn't even talk about it.
Maybe its because im not from the U.S? For me its just another region. And what do you mean by scare quotes? I dont know what that means. You don't care about the domestic record, which is fine. But the domestic record has been a thing since there was a domestic record. No need for scare quotes.
Slumdog Millionaire had its largest single day gross 109 days in.
Wait, its a domestic box office thread only? I thought this was a general thread about how the movie performs. Anyway, didnt know that, sorry.Nobody cares Cup. You're in a fucking domestic box office thread, stop trying to get yourself banned over dumb shit.
