Interstellar seems to be heading into a decent 40%~ drop for the the weekend. It's no Inception and definitely no Gravity, which dropped 32 and 22% respectively.

Anyway, it will end up third behind BH6 and Dumb and Dumber Too.

The word bomb should be reserved for movies that lose a lot of money (relative to their budgets), not films that break even or lose a bit of money necessarily. Only one in 5 or 10 wide releases make any significant profit in their theatrical runs. Most films break even or lose a little bit of money (that is recuperated eventually by home video and TV rights). The odd film misses the mark entirely and results in 10s of millions (and sometimes hundreds of millions) in losses. Those are bombs.

Interstellar is making big money in China. It opened during the week, but its tally should end up in the $40M range through Sunday. That will put it in position for a $80-100M finish in China.

John Wick still has to open in most major territories and Keanu still has dat star appeal.
It'll do well in the end.

I can't see how it won't be fairly profitable at this point considering the modest production budget ($20 million) for an action film. It'll hit $40 million domestically in the US within a week. It hasn't opened in most of the major foreign markets yet.

Then you have DVD/Blu-Ray/Digital, TV rights, streaming fees, etc.

There's a big difference between a film that breaks even and one that bombs. Sure it didn't bring back money but it didn't fail either. It may be a candidate for revisiting in the future vs. box office poison.

So glad they redesigned all these characters.
That's what I thought too upon seeing that lol

Gravity was driven by reviews and inception was driven by summer. For a movie which is so divisive this is fantastic

A movie having such a tiny drop like Inception did had nothing to do with summer. It was about the word of mouth.

Wom on user reviews on cinemascore, Twitter, Facebook, imdb, flixter, yahoo user reviews and metacritic user reviews is essentially nearly the same. Even the metacritic score is the same, only thing different is the RT score

Do a quick search for "interstellar" on Twitter and see the first 20 results of reactions, this is in 2nd week so all hyperbole should be over now
