Charlize Theron carried that movie, she's also the reason for 99% of all the awards it won (to be fair the director deserves some credit for actors having good performances). Her TV work is iffy at best.

she made one small budget film 14 years ago, perfect director for a big budget action movie.

She actually sounds a lot like the kind of director Marvel takes a chance on.

Look at what the Russo Brothers or Taika Waititi did before they directed Marvel films.

So she's mediocre because she's made a movie that won major awards, but it wasn't because of her. Sure, makes sense.

I guess Russo's really were mediocre before CA.

WW trailers didn't look inspiring and the lead actress is a wooden plank. This movie was working uphill from the very start.
Considering that MoS and BvS were really good despite everyone dog piling on them, I tend to not take stock into this kind of shit.
Man of Steel was decent, but entirely too long and dreary. BvS excelled at almost nothing, which is a feat in itself. It's best for the DCCU if they learn from that and SS.

the awards it won were almost all for acting.

if i counted it right 23 of the 27 awards the movie won were "outstanding actress" awards for Theron.
the movie itself wasn't nominated for any major awards.

Collider Crew is not where you turn for scoops.

You know this.
Collider knows this.

Just like you wouldn't hit up your city's Morning Zoo for insight on the day's top headlines, you don't go to the movie morning zoo to find out how Hollywood is working.

They're not built for that.

Ummm..

Yeah..exactly this.

Doesn't surprise me since Man of Steel was mediocre, BvS was insultingly bad, and they put an actress who cant act in the lead role of Wonder Woman

Ant man, iron man 2, age of ultron, and both thors were trash to super average movies. Man of Steel is better then those but for some reason critics prefer the marvel shtick and tone.
Sorry but you forgot the phrases 'in my opinion' and 'in the majorities opinion' when you wrote this, just to help you out a bit.

Anyway, wouldn't surprise me if this isn't good. Gadot wasn't particularly good in BVS and I don't think she can carry a movie and the last thing the 'movie about the strong woman one that everyone knows' needs is for the film to be saved by a male actor because that kind of undermines the cool aspect of having a female-led superhero movie.

This. Suicide Squad also was good, imo, just not as good as the other two. Since I liked all of the DCEU movies so far, I am pretty sure I will also like Wonder Woman.

Audiences propelled Suicide Squad, one of the worst films I've ever seen, to immense profits.

I'm not sure anyone at WB thinks there's a problem really, and until audiences prove them wrong I can't see what pressure there is to change anything.

That's a bit of an exaggeration.

But I do think that unless their films completely bomb they aren't going to change things up. For all the bellyaching it seems like they'll be content with minor profits and keep steamrolling on.

And yet the movie was highly regarded. So she's made a movie that is highly regarded and she is mediocre. Based on what?

If it's even half as good as BvS it'll be amazing. Not expecting quite that, though. D.C. Movies have been consistently better than marvel ones for me so I expect something good.

the russos did a loooot of directing in a short period of time before the Cap movies. look at their resume and then Jenkins.
2 episodes of entourage and 2 episodes of the killing and a tv movie was basically her last 10 years.

Really not seeing the problem. Either way, we'll see how it turns out soon enough.

Well, at least we'll always have the cool theme song.

Ughhhhh..

I don't think the quality of the director movies matters at all for these movies. I think they are doomed from before they even pick the director because the tone and the characters are already so far away from what they should be. Not to mention the fact that they have to tie in to all of the other terrible movies. It's a huge uphill battle for any director.

o_O

... anyways.

I was looking forward to this movie. Will probably still watch it since it's free (friend works w/ DC). Now I'll just go while looking forward to the free snacks.

Here we go again. let's start the hate train a bit early this time. this looks just as mediocre as the first Captain America, but let's trash it and rate it so that it sits in the 20s at Rotten Tomatoes.

Opinions differ. When I saw the first Ironman I found that mediocre at best and had no intention of watching any of the other Marvel movies, especially not since Ironman 1 is supposed to be one of the better Marvel films. And if I already thought that one was mediocre, why bother with the rest?

On the contrariy, I enjoyed every DCEU film so far.

While I'm not particularly optimistic about this movie, it's probably worth noting that any rough cut being seen four months in advance is going to feel pretty disjointed.

For me the Marvel movies have been decent popcorn flicks. Outside of maybe 1 or 2 I never have any real desire to watch them again. They don't excel in or try for almost anything more in my mind. On the other hand I watched BvS like 3 or 4 times in the first few months and still feel like I could watch and experience more. It's a masterpiece for me. Suicide Squad was flawed but I'd rather watch that a 2nd time than almost any Marvel movie that isn't Guardians of the Galaxy.

I will never understand this

Tempering expectations based on being burned in the past =/= starting the hate train

I want to be surprised.

No Snyder directing is a point on its favor, Im going to go a head and say the cut they saw was an early one, probably an alpha.

Shocking. The trailers look worse with each viewing. Something is wrong with the tone. The fisticuffs line falls completely flat.

The DC cinematic universe is apparently incompatible with authentic levity. It's grimdark and self-serious through and through, when it's not trying to force phony Marvel vibes down your throats.

Need to play the wait and see game... like with every other movie in existence.

I just don't trust the opinion of how good a movie is when there can't possibly be a final cut. This goes both ways.

How do you screw up a movie about a hot chick with a shield and a sword fucking up Nazis? The movie could be 2 hours of badass choreography with no plot and it'd be infinitely watchable.

I saw the animated Wonder Woman movie which the movie is based on (from the trailers I've seen), and I thought it was only ok. The Justice League: War and Flashpoint animated movies were great. I enjoyed and saw the Dr. Strange animated movie a year before last year's live action film hit and the movies were about 95% the same.

My expectations for Wonder Woman aren't very high.

People who think BvS is a masterpiece that modern audiences "Just don't get" and people who enjoyed Suicode Squad are not to be trusted and their opinions on literally anything do not matter.

These aren't enough?

Note that Mark Hughes and the other guy don't actually say it's not true nor that they are excited, they're just saying that they haven't heard about it. It could be that the woman from the video has a different source who is more loose-lipped than the sources of those two guys.

I thought that Brian Singer mostly hit the right tone in Superman Returns. Too bad it had a shit story.

There were a couple of shots in that movie that I despised - the ones where they tried to portray Superman as a messiah. There's one in particular in the runaway car sequence. It's almost like Snyder took that shot and used it as the basis for the DCEU.

Oh, well.
