Wonder Woman Is a Disjointed Disaster (Says DC Insider)

I think I'd know a disjointed movie when I see one. But then I also found BvS and SS perfectly watchable and not horrendous as everyone keeps saying.

Cue DT laughing at the guitar riff

Not a guitar.

People who think BvS is a masterpiece that modern audiences "Just don't get" and people who enjoyed Suicode Squad are not to be trusted and their opinions on literally anything do not matter.

People who salivate all over the next bland Marvel movie devoid of almost all creativity and with shitty choreography, only passable soundtrack, bland cinematography, and nonsense storyline that panders to the lowest common denominator (10 year olds) are not to be trusted.

Collider Crew is not where you turn for scoops.

You know this.
Collider knows this.

Just like you wouldn't hit up your city's Morning Zoo for insight on the day's top headlines, you don't go to the movie morning zoo to find out how Hollywood is working.

They're not built for that.
Right. Sasha is pure Schmoes. She's joined the Collider family recently with their amalgamation, but she has a little more cred with industry connections. That said, if insider info came from Perri Nemiroff or Steve Weintrob I would trust it too. They don't usually do the rumours or insider information thing though for obvious reasons.

Charlize Theron carried that movie, she's also the reason for 99% of all the awards it won (to be fair the director deserves some credit for actors having good performances). Her TV work is iffy at best.

she made one small budget film 14 years ago, perfect director for a big budget action movie.

Well. WB got Nolan after directing a couple small budget movies.

I don't thats typically the problem. Although I personally found Monster pretty average.

You could replace "Marvel" with "DC" in this statement and it wouldn't change much.

Defending DCEU movies is not a hill I would want to die on.

Let them fight!!!

I agree with the both of you.

THE BOTH OF YOU!!!

I think his point was less that she directed a low-budget movie, and more that the last movie she directed was 14 years ago. Whereas Nolan was making Batman just two years after Insomnia.

I don't know if it's that big a deal, though it is surprising -- though given Hollywood, maybe not that surprising -- that there are such large gaps in her resume.

This isn't some nerd hill I want to die on. I enjoy what I enjoy and I see creativity where I see it. From where I stand Marvel movies are, again, fun popcorn flicks. I have no real problem with them. They're pretty much the definition of adequate. A movie like BvS, though, to me is so much more. It's a visual treat in a way Marvel movies have yet to even attempt to touch. The musical scoring is, again, one area Marvel just doesn't give a fuck. Those two things alone would put DC movies on a plateau above Marvel for me, though there's a bunch more I like with DC stuff, too.

As I said, Suicide Squad is a deeply flawed movie but for my own enjoyment I'd rather watch something that really tried creatively than something made for the lowest common denominator to not shake the boat and ... well.. be adequate.

Up until now DC movies drip style. Marvel movies drip toy sales opportunity.

I just check her work history. I thought she had been doing other work besides movies. didn't realize she hasn't done much.

I guess WB really wanted a Women to direct? seems odd to gave her the job with not much going on.

Difference is they got him directly after 2 very strong movies. Plus he didn't have to deal with execs tryign to build a cinematic universe, it was just him, his brother and David Goyer writing the best Batman-story they could think of.

Suicide Squad had the talent and a bit of style (though I hated the popular music score), but the plot was as by the numbers and forgettable as Thor 2's.

I haven't watched Thor 2 yet.

Thor 1 was one of the most wretched awful movies I've ever had the misfortune of seeing and I'm kind of afraid to watch something people say is definitively worse.... somehow.

I tend to be more skeptical of people who condemn products of an effective mainstream formula for the inherent drawbacks of formulaic mainstream products.

Sorry you get so hung up on format and structure that you've gotta mock people who can suspend their joyless cynicism long enough to have a good time watching superheroes on the big screen.

It's fucking comic book stuff. If you can figure out a better way to adapt Marvel's material into movies for a broad audience, feel free to grace us with your superior films or share your vision with people who can.

suicide squad couldnt even pull of a story that panders to the lowest common denominator

Even at the risk of DC fans flaying me:

Do people in general care about Wonder Woman at all? Cause personally I never even heard of the character before this movie was a thing.

Suicide Squad really tried creatively ?

Not all filmmakers work a lot. Perhaps she got nothing that interested her. How many female directors get good scripts not named Bigelow?

Plenty of male directors got huge budget movies coming from small budget movies. Why is this so strange to people.

And yet you watched Suicide Squad.

Go figure.

Suicide Squad, despite its plotting problems was about a billion times better than Thor 1. Thor 1 had worse plotting problems.

Suicide Squad really tried creatively ?

Yes? Especially compared to Thor? And bland stuff like Iron Man.

suicide squad couldnt even pull of a story that panders to the lowest common denominator

Sorry but I'll take that over Natalie Portman's terrible ass acting as though she's fawning over Thor because of pandering reasons.

lol It was a tit for tat. For some reason, that shit goes on in these threads because some folks need to pick a team. It's fun to watch, for sure..
I can't wait until Thor 3 and Justice League go head-to-head and end up with similar grosses. I don't have any interest in either, but watching the fallout in this forum will be so much fun.

I'm genuinely surprised you have never heard of Wonder Woman before, unless you are living in a cave in a desert.

She is one of the most iconic heroes of all time. If you would rank them she'd probably be 4th after Superman, Batman, and Spider-Man in overall recognition and legacy.

As I said, Suicide Squad is a deeply flawed movie but for my own enjoyment I'd rather watch something that really tried creatively than something made for the lowest common denominator to not shake the boat and ... well.. be adequate.

Suicide Squad was trying to be like Guardians of the Galaxy but instead it fell flat on its face. It was not creative in any way.

Wow, a DC movie shaping up to be shitty, who would have guessed?

that being said I'd definitely put man of steel over iron man 2/3 and the thor movies, it definitely wasn't better than ant man or ultron tho

MoS at least had good action scenes.

How is this possible?

Suicide Squad was trying to be like Guardians of the Galaxy but instead it fell flat on its face. It was not creative in any way.
Yeah this.

"Really tried creatively." How in the hell? It's a derivative hodgepodge of mismatched elements that makes absolutely no contribution to its genre, except as a cautionary example.

Thor is a pretty run-of-the-mill fish out of the water story. There are no plotting problems in Thor because the plot in Thor is fucking simple to a fault.

Interesting considering I don't remember her appearing in any popular culture stuff at all (outside of comics obviously, I wasn't a big on superhero comics when I was young).

If she is so popular why hasn't there been any movies about her? Batman and Superman have what, 20?

Suicide squad is literally The closest thing you can come to a 130 minute hot topic commercial.
It is also the shittiest disstilment of the much maligned Marvel formula (tm) to grace the genre.

- quips? You got em'
- big cgi-in-the-sky ending with many delicious steaks
- a soundtrack so forced, unoriginal and overbearing they really needed to go all the way and give each song a 'wacky' presentation slide with bullets points ala: 'isn't this song just popular? BUY THE SOUNDTRACK'
- the worst Villian this side of Thor 2: The dark world of absolute meh. Actually worse. Malekith didn't dance

This isn't about BvS, and you like what you like, but this particular point just doesn't make sense to me. You're dying so hard on the hill it's becoming a crater.

Female superheroes basically never get the big shot for films

The last ones were I think Elektra and Catwoman and you know

Ah, good, this has turned into a "at least it's better than Thor" thread.

Cue the Thor 2 poll in 3....2.......1...........

Indeed. I watch them all, but the RT threads here are some of the funniest threads on GAF. I'll never understand why anyone from either "camp" gets so invested to the point of anger, but I'll laugh my ass off watching it! The gifs alone make it all worth while lol..
