Blizzard need to find a way to funnel people from New-Old World to Northrend quick-smart, else rework Outland.

I actually really enjoy Outland however i can understand why some don't. You can skip most of it now anyway. You can easily get to level 60-62 or so just sticking around in the vanilla areas and you can leave by level 68. If you queue up for dungeons than you will probably only end up doing 1 or 2 zones.

I know the shaman in my guild just skipped all of outland and he leveled ridiculously fast (combination of pvp and dungeons).

Did some 2v2's with a disc priest... he went down in 8 seconds with a feral and an arms warrior on him. No real way to peel asides from frostbrand+earthbind dispel, and both the feral and arms can deal with that single psychic scream. >.> Really need that buff.

Otherwise, did pretty well, went 6-1. Will enjoy it before I hit the wall.

I'm running with a fury warrior (thats what my friend plays so we make do). We are at about 1500 but we don't play much each week. Our rating is going up pretty quick and i can see us reaching 1800+ in no time.

I think im just gonna stick with double DPS for cata. After being a healer for all of wrath i got sick of the really long games. So much more fun to be had with double DPS.

So Archeology is the worst thing ever. I've got zero things that I can use. All I want is the damn doll and it won't proc. I could have seriously made two other 85's by now. This is such a waste of time. :(

Ah, yeah, I definitely need strafe. For some reason I completely forgot about that, which is odd because I've replaced A and D turning with strafing and bound Q and E to a couple key macros. You'd think I'd remember this, hah.

Forward you already have by default: hold both left and right mouse button down.

Also you don't taunt in PvP!

I know you can go forward by pressing both buttons - that's how I move a lot of the time. What I meant when I said about binding forward is that when holding both buttons down to move, you lose the cursor. Which is why you'd still need a forward button if you needed to choose targets (or do other things with it) carefully.

can anyone suggest alternatives to wow-heroes? it seems buggy to me.

Yeah i think i'll give up too on Arch once i get my Tolvir ring... but just getting that is taking too long! I got the Naga Form rare artifact research AFTER my Tolvir ring research, and i completed it BEFORE i even got to half of my research for the ring. And both of them require 150 artifacts.

It's fucking stupid.

Nobody saw my post from the week after Cata where I spent an hour trying Archeology and said "This is going to be such a pointless frustrating grind" and "Fishing is easier to level, at least you can watch TV while you do it"?

Blizzard dropped the ball on this one pretty hardcore.

i think its completely ridiculous the lack of quality wands in cataclysm, im still using a green want from twilight highlands and cant get the one from heroic grim batol to drop

Jesus. Two of my guildies hacked in the past five days. Glad I just ordered a fucking authenticator.
After my account was hacked twice in a month by the same guy (I didn't realize that he had also occupied my e-mail account until the second time) I did this. Good decision overall.

I'm ridiculously bored of my mage so I've started leveling a NE warrior on Ysondre. I forgot how much I liked Westfall. I'm also surprised as to how they changed the Hogger encounter (as well as DM as a whole, what with the surprise entrance of Cookie).

Alright, I just got BC and in Outland. Jesus Christ the difficulty took a huge spike. Also, I'm not getting the same sense of linear/ sensible progression that I got in first 60 levels. The quests are ALL over the place. Thank goodness for flying mounts.

Oh, and the gear drops suck ass so far. I've found some good pieces of mail armor but no quality one handed weapons. I'm an enhancement shaman, so I prefer to dual wield. Oh, and my DPS in instances is utter crap. I can't break 15%. If I use my AOE spells (Fire Nova), I do up to 35% DPS, but risk pulling/ aggroing a shit load of enemies...and thus....dying....Is it me, or just a shitty tank?

There's a spike at 58 an 68 if you move straight into the expansion content. It only takes, literally, one level up and some new quest loot (armor) to level it out.

The tank is doing something wrong cause Shaman AOE isn't that strong as far as I can tell especially if it's only Fire Nova.

I don't really know if a low level Enhancement Shamans should use their second cast abilities or not.

I can tell you slow weapons are better and to put Wndfurry on Main Hand and Flametongue on Offhand.

I use axes and maces. I don't use fast weapons at all. And yes, I use windfury on my main hand and flame on the offhand already.

The trinket is too good. =/

Ring would also be nice as well.

I just wish they would put other incentives in so players could do something with it. Perhaps enable it so that you could solve certain jars that contained volatiles or other items that are used to create certain items etc.

I still think they should have gone with a system not based on pure chance. Probably makes more sense for people to save up the fragments and then purchase items with them.

My guild put together a pug last night and got Server First Heroic Lich King :lol

It was actually quite challenging and we definitely wiped for a solid hour until people got better at staying out of those ever expanding defiles.

Oh heh. Yeah it's definitely just "position" like ch0mp points out. I realized what it was right after i saw the whole list.
My mind was too focused on something else. I was unsure of why I couldn't get the final 3 dailies in TB to pop after consecutive wins and was wondering if time was involved. But, I guess they simply rotate after each win.

Oh well, my sights are focused on just getting a win. I only need 2 more commendations for my flying mount. Sitting on the bench this very second hoping Horde keeps in controlled and wins so I can buy it.

One of the most annoying things about non-updated content is that usually itemization changes a lot with the x.0.0 patches, but they dont go back adn re-itemize the quests.

The itemization was GREAT when BC came out (WTF INT SHIELDS FOR PALADINS AND SHAMANS), but the stats certain classes want changed so much since then that now...

FWIW, Paladins and Shaman still use INT shields. :p

And Shockadin is a damn good way to level as well.

Well yes, but I mean, it was a personal example 9as I played a pally at the time) but I know some things changed (don't ret pallys no longer use int? so int plate is useless for them. And I bet there's a lot more spirit on cloth in BC and Wrath then in Cata)

Not anymore. XP is reduced to 10% of normal while questing in the old world at 60+, Outland at 70+, or Northrend at 80+ now.

(You can easily skip doing Outland zones by running dungeons for eight levels, though, yes.)

The difficulty spike eases up real quick as you get kitted out in Outland gear (which is essentially gear that's 40+ levels better than what you have now.) Same thing happens for a half hour when you get to Northrend.

All the quest hubs are awkwardly designed and require lots of unnecessary travel in BC, but literally no other zone is nearly as spread out and back-and-forthy as Hellfire.

Oh, and the gear drops suck ass so far. I've found some good pieces of mail armor but no quality one handed weapons.

There's an escort quest in Zangarmash that gives a solid mace, a blue fist weapon off a Sporeggar quest, and another escort in Terrokar that gives you an axe, but yeah, there's a serious lack of enhancement weapons available in Outland (and it's nearly impossible to buy level-appropriate weapons on the AH.) You can also buy some green fist weapons from a dude in Stormspire. I'm guessing Enhancement still allowed two-hand weapons when BC launched so they didn't feel the need to itemize dual-wielding very aggressively.

On the plus side, you'll be swimming in great enhancement weapons when you get to Northrend.

If it's your first time playing, it may be more worthwhile to switch to Elemental for Outland. There's plenty of gear to match what you'll need and it'll give you a nice look at another spec in your class.

Just an idea.

I decided to try this game out. I have never played it (actually I haven't even seen it aside from some random videos).

I've got vanilla WoW. Aside from preventing me from creating some races, am I missing out too much? Should I buy the whole thing to experience it at it's fullest or should I wait till I'm level 50 or something (some new areas might be locked for low level characters maybe?)? I have no idea how these expansions work.

I'll check the spreadsheet and create a character where most gaffers play, so maybe I see you guys around.

You're locked out of Blood Elf/Draenei, Goblin/Worgen, Archaeology, and Jewelcrafting. I'd stick with vanilla and buy BC when you hit 60, LK when you hit 70, and Cata when you hit 80.

You aren't missing a ton by not buying everything at once.

But Elemental isn't fun. :(
I enjoyed it when I played Shaman many moons ago. I think it's important for a hybrid to try out all their trees so they have a basic understanding of their class, but it might just be me.

Plus if there's any time that is best to try out Ele, it'd be BC. Lots of gear based around the spec is available there.

I don't even think they rotate; I think it's just random. I've won and had the same quests available twice in a row. ):

Just play with no expansions until you hit level 58 and decide then. You're locked out of absolutely nothing except four races - two from the first expansion, whose areas now suck compared to Cataclysm level areas for everyone else - and one class, Death Knight, which isn't really anything anyone should pick for their first character (nor their second or third or fourth or infinitest either imo, but let's not discuss that).

Can't have a DK til you have a level 55 character anyway.
I think they lifted that with Cataclysm. There's a Death Knight in my guild who I'm positive has never played the game before.

Damn, i didn't even know this. Not that i really intend to stay extra long in those areas anyway.

When did that change, or has it always been like that? I thought i heard people were leveling to 62-63 in vanilla areas so maybe it got nerfed. That or my memory is just hazy which is certainly a strong possibility.

I think it can be quite hard to learn how to use a DK when you first get it. There is no slowly getting accustomed to your skills and talents etc. I know when i first tried it i had to do a bit of reading before i felt comfortable.

Was just a recent change. Specifically for Cata because people could mass AE northrend mobs but not Cata mobs due to the increased hp/damage on them.

And yes you still need a 55 toon to make a DK.

No, I'm serious. And not just through the way he plays his DK either, he asked us how you level skinning because he couldn't skin any mobs where he was and we told him to go to a 1-10 zone. He asked us how he could tell that a zone was for that level. He also wondered if there were any special potions he could drink during battles because he was dying to non-elites.

EDIT: Well I have no fucking idea how he managed to create a DK then.

Maybe he bought or inherited an account. They could make a DK so as to not disturb the real owners character.. maybe its on another server. i know the 55 DK requirement is not server specific like it was at Wrath launch.

Well my WoW account got hacked.

All of my gold, mats and random shit from my bags are gone.

I haven't done shit to warrant this either. Haven't opened emails, I have like one add-on from curse (SilverDragon). It'd be one thing if I could actually pinpoint where I fucked up but since I can't, I'm just wondering how in the fuck.

E-mail Blizzard. They'll give you your stuff back if you explain to them your situation.

I'm actually enjoying leveling up as a prot warrior. Very strange.

Send emails, call, etc.

The bonus thing is, you usually get your original stuff back plus a whole lot more.

I wish I could some how collect all my posts from this thread for you to help you out, but long story short just play at your own pace and msot importantly only ask questions as you have them, don't assume you need to know a million things right away. There were basics I was/am still learning at higher levels. The game is tuned so that grandma Betsy can play this for a lot of the 1-60 experience, so just take it as you will and have fun.

I stuck with vanilla WOW until I fit 58, then stuck with only BC until 68, then just went ahead and bought both WotLK and Cata. I'd recommend this, personally.

Archy. Though I think you have to build up your own database, very useful none the less.
