I'm leveling a warrior right now also.

Prot is pretty nice since tank queues are literally instant with random dungeons, but I dunno, I'm not really a fan of tanking personally.

I want to go fury because Titan's Grip with dual BoA arcanite reapers seems like fun, but I keep reading that it's actually not that great until end-game because of a lack of hit.

Prot is also stupidly easy to level if you do normal leveling (hell, all tank specs are easy to level) because all you need to do is aggro everything in a huge radius and burn everything down pretty quickly (especially with BoAs). Makes quests a breeze, really, and you're an unkillable death machine.

The thing though is that Tanks are in high demand pre 60. When you start doing BC dungeons, it's always Healers that are missing. ALWAYS. I've had 5-10 minute queues with my Brewmaster around level 60 for some reason, and if I switch to Mistweaver I get insta-queues.

What's also funny now is that I'm going through the BC dungeons because, well, I'm 66, but it's a pain because you don't get that much XP out of them. I did 4 levels just herbing, which was kinda cool, so now it'll be a breeze to get to 68 and head to Northrend.

Gut hunch: WoD will end with Gul'dan summoning the Burning Legion, either as a conclusion to this pack or a lead-in to the next.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. Although it does get messy with the alternate timelines, will that be a totally separate Burning Legion from the one in the original timeline?

Regarding tanks, they are pretty much in the best place they've ever been mechanically, even if they are still the rarest roll in queue'd content. The actual act of tanking is far more dynamic and active now than it was in vanilla/BC, the tank specs feel in many ways like damage specs in how you are always using high-damage abilities. It looks like they are moving in further into the "offense is the best defense" direction in WoD by getting rid of parry and dodge as stats. By linking defensive procs to offensive stats like crit, they've both made gearing a tank easier and increased the fun of playing one.

I haven't played my tank since vanilla. I wonder if I should try him again. I never had any problems with single tanking, but multiple enemies always fucked me over. I remember having to switch enemies around and sunder armor everyone etc etc and I always lost aggro with big groups :(

I think I even played him again for a short while in Wotlk and I had the same problem.

AoE tanking isn't much of an issue anymore. Since all tank stances increase your threat generation by like 1000%, regular use of the standard AoE attack your class has is usually enough to maintain aggro on a group, and many of the tank specs have aoe dots that improve it further. For example, Thunderclap also applies rend for prot warriors I believe, brewmasters have both crane kick and keg smash/fire breath (which leaves a dot), DK's can spread diseases via Blood Boil which also does damage.

Aoe tanking has been easy as shit since Cataclysm, even for warriors. The only things that are hard/annoying are dripfed adds and fighting with other tanks for aoe threat. But if you're only on add duty and they come in nice, clean groups it's basically charge (or leap) -> thunderclap -> shockwave (if you can hit 3+ enemies because of a stupid pvp nerf) and they're glued to you. The only thing that can steal them after that is an another tank that's been gulping up loads of Vengeance and decides to 'help' by throwing in some aoe.

I suspect that'll depend on where he is when he carries out the summon. If he were to sneak through into Azeroth before doing it...

This does of course mean that a significant component of the following expansion will be having to listen to Wrathion saying "I told you so".

One nice side-effect of that: As a tank, I want haste. As a tank, my warrior cotank wants crit. And so we end up in a position where both of us has *some* gear that's unique to us.

Actually, I kinda find AoE tanking as a paladin awkward - which feels really weird given that it's traditionally been our specialty. I'm not sure if it's me not quite nailing the rotation, or other DPS diving in a bit too early, but I'm usually having to taunt a few times to reel mobs in.

Man I wish this shit would come out now. I always love having shiny new MMO goodness to play in the winter months. Something about a big mug of hot chocolate on a snowy night and checking out new dungeons/raids.

Oh well, at least I'll have the new pvp starfighter shit in old republic to check out.

*shrug* our paladin doesn't seem to have much troubles, outside of the vengeance hopped tank thing I mentioned. He does switch his talents / glyphs for aoe or single target depending on the fight.

...now I'm intrigued.

Or, Gul'dan gets his ass whipped by us in a raid, which convinces him he needs to 'level up'. And by leveling up, I mean get some more help from his super funky bunch of demon friends by summoning the burning legion.

Alternate timeline Gul'dan gets whipped, flees out the red portal to the present, learns of his double's history and summons the legion. Begin expansion 7.

Isn't that pretty much what I said?

Someone with vast knowledge in wow lore... is it possible that Tempest Keep (or some form of it) be used in a raid in WoD?

Also, my hunch: Gul'dan is fought and is weakened. He then goes to those islands (the tomb of sargeras) for some reason and we get a deep ocean expansion pack first.

The last retcon was that Tempest Keep arrived after Draenor was exploded, and the Draenei arrived on Oshu'gun instead.

Assuming they go with that it's unlikely, but there's nothing from stopping them from going with another story.

This would be cool.

There's an implication that we're going to find out some information about the crash of the Exodar, and it's quite possible that could tie in to *some* sort of instance.

Probably not. Tempest keep was how the Naaru got to Outland (it was already Outland at this point.)

Since the Draenor of WoD has no Naaru, there's no TK.

Well this is what WoWWiki has on the history of Tempest Keep:
The mighty Tempest Keep was created by the enigmatic Naaru, sapient beings of pure energy and the sworn enemies of the Burning Legion. As a base of operations for the Naaru, the structure itself possesses the technology to teleport through alternate dimensions, traveling from one location to another in the blink of an eye.

With Outland serving as the strategic battlefront in the ongoing Burning Crusade, the Naaru used Tempest Keep to reach the shattered land. However, when the Naaru set out from their stronghold, Prince Kael'thas and his blood elves quickly raided the dimensional fortress and assumed control over its satellite structures. Guided by some unknown purpose, Kael’thas manipulates the keep’s otherworldly technologies, using them to harness the chaotic energies of the Netherstorm itself.

Though Kael’thas and his minions maintain a tight hold on the keep, a band of Draenei hijacked one of its satellite structures, the Exodar, and used it to escape Outland. In seeking out other worlds, the Draenei, led by the ancient prophet, Velen, hoped to find allies who would stand with them against the Legion and its nihilistic Crusade. The Exodar was damaged in the escape, and eventually crashlanded on Azeroth.

Hm... i didn't know that Exodar was once a Tempest Keep's "satellite". I guess it was like Mechanar or Arcatraz before, that's what they mean by "satellite"?

Thanks for the comments. I was hoping they wouldn't reuse it but I wouldn't have been mad if there was some mention of it. I'm curious as to what 'Netherstorm' will bring in the future patch.

At the moment this is the current lore, yes.

However everything concerning Draenei, Naaru and inter-dimensional crystal ships is in constant flux so as Tacitus said, better not waste time being concerned about it.

Well prior to Draenor's destruction, the area that becomes Netherstorm is Farahlon. Apparently a pretty nice place, and not exploding with weird purple/pink energy.

Yeah, but wasn't "Dude gets crushed in Outlands/Draenor, escapes back to Azeroth to summon the Burning Legion" how Burning Crusade ended? I'd be disappointed if they did that again.

If they're doing time travel to this extent, they need to go full bore with it. Have some other people go "wait, we can create alternate timelines, beef up ourselves at our mightiest point and bring that army to the present?" Just imagine the Night Elves going back in time and just stopping Aszhara before she did anything.

Anyone feel like running a few heroic scenarios tonight around 6 pm eastern or after? Add Jrmint#1322

I'll be running a WW Monk.

Since we're dealing with Iron Horde, can Hunters finally tame Dragonkin? I mean if Warlocks get friggin perma Doom Guards.

Dragonkin are too intelligent to be tamed as hunter pets. They are as smart or smarter than the player races.

Doomguards were Archimonde's personal escorts, and they only followed him. That seems a lot less likely to be turned into a servant by a Warlock than a Dragonkin as an aide by a Hunter.

There was also the hunter in Underbog who has a Druid as a pet. If a hunter can tame a Druid, why not a Dragonkin?

Warlock pets and Hunter pets are totally different situations, though. Warlocks essentially enslave/dominate their minions into serving them through magic. The hunter/pet relationship is a much more standard "human finds animal companion" scenario. A hunter with an intelligent, sentient creature as a pet would pretty much be like a person having another person as a pet.

Assuming you are 90, when you log in you will have a quest sending you to Chromie who will teleport you there.

Or like riding one as a mount

How do I get to timeless isle? Blizz couldn't restore my gear so I gotta start fresh now lol.

Just fly southeast from jade forest. Or if you've never been there before, Chromie will give you an item to port you there if you talk to her in the place above mogushan palace in Vale.

Or like riding one as a mount

meh, mounts have always had a lot of wonky shit lore-wise.

I don't buy that. We're some way off numbers that would usually be regarded as normal caps on integer size. Now, it's possible that they're using unconventionally-sized integers, but that would be, uh, unconventional.

I'm too lazy to google it and find it, but that's what I read. WoW is running off of a highly modified warcraft III engine. Doesn't seem too far fetched.

Any black friday deals going on for the expansion and battle chest? I'd like to get some friends into the game.

Gamestop usually drops the battlechest to like 20 bucks in November-December

It wouldn't be a stretch to assume that at one point it was built on the WC3 engine, but it probably shares nothing in common with it today.

Ehh, don't feel like my almost 2k valor on gear..rather just do it the hard way. Can I still convert these into justice somehow?

Edit: stupid question but how the hell do I get to pandaria? I literally forgot.

Yeah, we're enslaving highly sentient beings to serve our whims as our mounts.

Portal near the main monk trainer for Horde, assuming the same for alliance.

Hmm, what if Gul'Dan summons the legion in an attempt to overthrow the Iron Horde, and the endgame raid is a 3-way fight between the Iron Horde, Burning Legion, and the players?

Seems likely that the old Draenor Dark Portal would need to be destroyed at the end of the expansion to keep TWO Burning Legion armies from invading Azeroth.

If I read the features correctly, I think your first task upon entering the new zone is to help destroy the portal, or at least slow down its use by the Iron Horde. I really want to see a sort of Flashpoint story with the Lich King too. Maybe Gul'Dan becomes the Lich King this time, or maybe Garrosh ends up being captured by Kil'Jaeden and he becomes the Lich King, and because of his bloodthirsty ambition, he overshadows Arthas instead of Arthas overshadowing him like he did to Ner'zhul.

Poor Jaina. She never would have gone so crazy if Thrall didn't dump her for Aggra.
