World of Warcraft |OT7| Feel the hatred of 10,000 Murlocs

So because of the news of the expansion, I'm highly considering coming back to WoW. I activated my 10 day WoD trial (only bought up to MoP, and didn't even hit 90 on any character - highest is 88), and logged on to my main, an Elemental Shaman.

I'm totally fucking LOST. It's been years since I played seriously, and when I did play the MoP content, I'm sure it was in a very bad way, rotation/skill usage-wise. I tried to set up my hotbars with all the skills available but it was a lost cause. I tried to play some, but I just wound up fucking around with my UI and hotkeys for hours, getting nothing done. I logged on to my rogue who has less skills available and did a level 80 instance (he is level 80 anyway) and it wasn't horrible, but man. I'm just completely out of the loop. I know that I'll just have to play and relearn everything to get with it again, but I was wondering if there are any tips or resources anyone can point me towards to get acclimated with the game again. Maybe some kind of checklist that I can work towards getting done before the xpac hits.

I'll be rolling a Demon Hunter when the xpac comes out, of course. :p So I don't have to have all the best gear from raids or whatnot for my other characters. I just want to be "set up", basically all I know that I need to do is to get my Garrison up and running, and leveled. What else should I do? Should I have an alt maxed as well, or will just one character at 100 be enough to get things prepared?

I'm rambling on here, basically, just throw any advice you might have for a player who quit at the beginning of Cataclysm and has been out of the loop since. It would be super appreciated!

The flight plan I just filed with the agency list me, my men, Dr. Pavel here. But only one of you!
Legendary Ring
14,958 Apexis Crystals can be exchanged for 5 Abrogator Stone Cluster each week.
20,000 Apexis Crystals can be exchanged for 75 Elemental Rune each week.

Hrm. Decent catchup mechanic I suppose, but you'd be having to do tanaan dailies every day to keep up with the apexis costs.

Forces you to choose between apexis gear or advancing your ring quicker. Kinda shitty if you're trying to get caught up as fast as possible from scratch. Besides it being extremely tedious. Not really gonna help me either unless the patch drops like, this coming week. I've mostly solidified the alts I plan to get the ring on/gear already.

Lower the requirements by 5k and make it every 2 days

Only way I'm touching this shit on an alt

Same here. I have done next to zero alt grinding with respect to getting my epic ring. With MoP, 4 of my alts had the cloak and I had fun doing it too.

It's not just about the requirements of the ring that make this legendary quest line a chore and fall flat, it is also about:

Story and lore.
The looks department.
The multiple tangible legendary items you received as you progressed towards getting your cloak.
The variety of activities you needed to accomplish that made getting your epic cloak not tedious.

All this is imo, but It's just fucking boring and monotonous and the proposed catch-up mechanic is not nearly enough. Do what they did in MoP and introduce double the requirement raid rewards for a week at a time in addition to their proposed catch-up mechanic.

Other than that, farm a shitload of gold and buy up game time with some or all of it.

Or, better yet - just make the abrogator stones drop in clumps of 20 to 25, make the TABLETS drop - not the ruins, and keep the catchup mechanic.

Sure, it makes it trivial to get the ring - but fuck anything else, we're in the end drag of the expansion. If I want to play another character, I shouldn't have to stress out about the idea of managing my garrison and the legendary ring quest again. And again. And again.

Feel free to add my battletag if you need any help or want friends to play with. I'm on Area 52 Horde mostly, though I do play Alliance on Whisperwind. (quote for it, it's in e-mail tags)

Yeah, unless I can go from the beginning of the quest to the naval missions stage in a week or two, I'm not touching another alt for anything beyond the Garrison Cache.

Shipyard is already a decent catch up for Runes. I think it took me 2 weeks to get 800 of them using the shipyard and 2 LFR runs. Didn't seem bad at all.

Cool man. All of my characters are on Bonechewer Alliance but if I make a new Horde character I'll do it on your server haha.

The last tab of the Spellbook, "Core Abilities", tells you your basic rotation for your spec. It's very simple and it will get you through 99% of the combat in the game. You can figure out where everything else fits in as you go, or via a resource like Iceveins.

so i dove back in and have been leveling through the xpac on a fresh account

any tips for getting mounts/achievements/titles with relative ease? want to at least pad this new character so he doesn't look like a fresh scrub

if i run through old dungeons and raids by myself can i still get credit? (can i even solo old raids?)

plan is to hit 100 and then explore the old continents and get those achievements on the flying mount, hit the old dungeons/raids along the way and level up archaeology as i do it

stupid idea? I quit during wotlk so i missed the cata changes and all of pandaria, figure it'll be worth my time to get familiar with the world again - make my character feel like a part of it in the process

i guess ill pvp in between to learn all the new abilities and counters for my class and what not as well

Doing old content can be fun and seeing the worlds you missed is good too. Once you hit level 100 you should be able to do Vanilla through Cata raids by yourself and once you hit a higher ilvl you can do the easier Mists raids. But sometimes you would need more then one person to get certain raid achievements.

Some things can be hard to solo depending on your class, Spine of Deathwing and Ra-den come to mind. I think it's still easiest to solo with Death Knights, Druids and Pallys. Maybe Monks. It helps to have good AoE.

Oh, I'm only talking normal mode for the most part. If you tried 25man Heroic Garrosh by yourself you would probably be crushed.

Man, look at all the unused mounts that are in the game.

Thanks for reminding me about the Iron Horde Wolf. Out of all the mount models in WoD that was by and far the best yet completely unobtainable for some reason. Still confused why it wasn't at least the laughing skull mount considering the alliance get a cool flaming Elekk with the Sha'tari.

Also that green Direhorn, ffffffffff it looks so good.

You will take your boar reskins and you will like it.

Nah, we'll get a faction that should give a moose, but we'll get another boar.

Makes me so sad, but it's probably true :(

Do people even really buy store mounts anymore?

The star pony was everywhere when it came out, lion was also p popular and the big annoying golden dragon had like some people as well, but I never saw any of the others ingame much.

Anything up to Cataclysm Heroic 10 man raids can be done largely effortlessly. With a bit more gear 25H raids are easy too. There are a few bosses that you might need to look up tactics for (first boss of Blackwing Lair, Karazhan Chess Event, Spine of Deathwing come to mind) as you can't just power through them, but even then they're not really hard.

Spectral Phoenix plz.

Damn, those are some nice mounts. Looking at that makes me sad :(

Least we're getting Heavenly Azure Cloud Serpent, but I only just got the 150 mount achiev, so 300 seems a long, long way off, haha.

the Moose is a long running joke that they finally put in

Blizzard is giving up

Every Azeroth-based expac needs a new Tauren variety, Broken Isles has moose Tauren. Stands to reason there would be actual moose as well.

I wouldn't mind going alliance, but they have literally 0 good shaman races, I could place my other classes, but not my shaman.

Horde has Orcs, Trolls and Male tauren, alliance has... Nothing.

Hah.

Don't get me wrong, dwarves are cool.

Just not wow dwarves, they still run like a fat kid chasing an ice cream van.

It's just like how I don't mind playing humans in other games, humans are great, but not WoW humans. WoW humans look like garbage.

I remember WAR dwarves, they looked awesome, shame about the game.

And also I don't understand who you are referring to when it comes to the second race, it can't be draeinieie, one gender looks like a stupid oaf and oh my days don't even mention that run, and the other is a hentai fanart race.

I.. er.. I mean.. this isn't FF14 where people run around as waifus. Very few people play characters based on looks. WoW is a game where race choice actually does impact gameplay and so people choose what's the most advantageous. All you're talking about is character models, which, frankly, no one in a serious WoW scene cares about. People switch races all the time depending on which is the strongest for pve/pvp at any given time.

I know the looks might be important for you, which is fine, but when you said alliance has "no good shaman" pretty sure no one thought you were talking about appearance. That's more of a minority in this game.

No offense but you're honestly deluded if you think that, there's a reason most of the horde was belves even when they had the worst pve and meh pve racials.

Only the top end care about racials, the world firsts - 50s and the glads/rank 1s, the rest either just blindly follow the top or play for looks, the latter of which is the majority.

Even when troll racials were imba back in ToT I think you still barely saw any around.

Also my favorite races are fem orcs and both undead genders, so don't bring 'waifus' into it.

Also I'd be willing to bet there's a 10000% more dreanie waifu porn than FF14 porn in general so that comparison doesn't even work really.

None of my friends or guildies play their characters because of some racial advantage. I've no doubt that people do (see human imbalance for PvP), but I genuinely know more people who just like their chosen race's looks or lore or city or whatever.

Belf is a very separate thing for three reasons. One, it's the only non-monster looking horde race. So, yes, people who wanted to stay horde but wanted to look like a human did go over there, but you're talking about the casual crowd. Two, their racials were insane when they released and completely shit on draenei's heal/hit. The aoe interrupt was monstrous during mace stun and fear spam days. Three, paladins were needed on horde side because it was the only tank class being held behind faction lines. Once they reworked totems in TBC shaman wasn't really something alliance needed.

Just saw your edit, not sure why I can't bring waifus into if you only play waifus. So make a waifu.
