World of Warcraft |OT8| CITIZENS OF DALARAN

But then again, they said they learned at the end of MoP that they were wrong for not making new 5-mans, yet they didn't seem to remember that lesson in WoD.

WoD was an expansion that they gave up on right about the time they finished it. So much is clearly missing from WoD it's ridiculous. They said that because people liked Timeless Isle they were modeling a lot of it after that, but none of the Timeless Isle-style gear catch-up stuff showed its face until Tanaan Jungle, which was supposed to be in the game on release.

There is a lot of transmog to buy at the Darkmoon Faire. Those replica sets

I might have to actually do some dailies to get enough tickets

Very true.

It still angers me, the whole basing stuff off the Timeless Isle thing. They should've seen why it was "popular" (and honestly I'd say it wasn't really that popular). It was a very small location overall so everything was very condensed, it had two world bosses regularly present, it had the catch-up mechanic, and above all else it was different. It wasn't something that had legs beyond the end of the expansion. Basing content, and end-game content too, on it was such a dumb idea. Say what you will about dailies, they do tend to keep people in and let you progress at a decent pace. Yeah, some will chafe about being "gated" but that's part of the point of an MMO in the first place. If players aren't gated, aren't led by a carrot-on-a-stick, they aren't gonna stick around.

And lo-and-behold, that's what happened. Of course, that wasn't the only reason people bailed (though it was definitely the reason why I bailed. I have to admit I felt kinda bad because I had literally just received the bronze statue for 10 years of subscribing and then like a week later burn out and go "yeah bye") but it sure as hell didn't help.

Its typical Blizzard, they overreact way too far. I love dailies, and I'll admit they went overboard in MoP, but they then over corrected themselves to the Timeless Isle and what we got with the apexis thing in WoD.

At the least, the world quest stuff looks a lot better.

...of course gear catch up mechanics weren't there they're catch up mechanics. The timeless isle influence is all over the questing zones of WoD.
Which is funny cause ironically when they released WoD's actual timeless isle (Tanaan) it totally missed what made TI fun.

Oh my god.

So I got a new laptop today, and I'm browsing my old Macbook Pro looking for data to transfer (mainly music right now). But I have the old screenshot folder of WoW on there and it's a BLAST FROM THE PAST with Wrath and Cata era stuff. I'll have to dump some of the pics here.

drop them, i love that kind of stuff, specifically really old boss kill shots etc.

i should drop some of mine i have some funny shit

like the first time we saw archimonde wrought chaos on mythic and everyone just spammed LUL in say chat

:re darkmoon faire

Post cata-darkmoon faire is way better, the old one sucked. I think most people go there now to get money from stuff like Darkmoon Rabbit, Moon Moon, the transmog items etc etc.

The races are fuckin ridiculous though ill never gold those

Missed getting the Moose mount tonight. Weekly Guild run, first week I've missed the start of for a while, but whenever someone left they were replacing them via group finder not asking if anyone in the guild wanting in. Hardly a "guild run" if you're keep it cliquey.

Shit happens, I suppose.

So now Blizzard finally made a big push in completely revamping most of the SFX for combat abilities. Problem is... I just find it to be way too much of an overbearing cacophony now, and significantly less readable than how it was before. It feels to me like most of these were created in a vacuum with little regard for how they would actually fit in an actual ingame context, like "Hey, this new Stormstrike sounds way more powerful and awesome than it did before!" and then never bothered to test how it would gel with the fast pace of combat and all the other sounds occuring. And honestly, that's kind of the hallmark of a rookie mistake which I would not expect from a company of this calibre.

WoD feels less like an expansion with missing features and more like a missing expansion.

In comparison, Legion looks like the evolution of the game that needs to happen and it's likely to be the best expansion since Your Favorite Expansion™

The type of improvements they've made to the PVP game, the questing game, the dungeon game... it's damn amazing.

I've kind of burnt myself out on dots between playing Unholy DK, Feral Druid(to an extent) and affliction warlock for so long.

I should play a mage.

Finally grinded out Pathfinder after all this time today on my Frost DK. Had to do all of Nagrand, a little exploring and 10 Assault missions, but done.

I really like Frost DK, definitely happy it'll be one of the 3 I start with in Legion(along with DH and Mage).

I should do those dragon soul 5man dungeons tomorow when I try normal 25 dragonsoul, Ive never actually done them, im watching this illidan lore video and theres aome in game stuff with deathwing that I assume are either from those dungeons or from the raid because Ive never seen it.

Man I really barely played Cata, Cata and WoD man... I gotta go back and solo those WoD raids one day to check them out at least (in one or two expansions)

The Dragon Soul dungeons are awesome, especially if you do them in succession

End of Time -> Well of Eternity -> Hour of Twilight

Really nice story between them all.

I was not a fan mostly. Well of Eternity is really cool, but the other two and Dragon Soul didn't do it for me lore-wise

And escorting Thrall in Hour of Twilight ugh

Jokes on you? And it was never really a "grind" if you played WoD normally for more than a couple months. You would have had most of it done by the time it came out.

i had it done a long time ago, i just recall not enjoying it at all because it took time away from things i actually wanted to do, dunno

legion confirmed to have the same kind of drawn out process?

My friends convinced me to start playing using the Refer-a-friend, and I can't play until tomorrow with them. About how long does it take to get from 0-100 and are there any tips for a newcomer??

When you turn in the quest item from Algalon to Rhonin in Dalaran he says "CITIZENS OF DALARAN RAISE YOUR EYES TO THE SKY AND OBSERVE"

90% of the time when you go into Dalaran he will be doing this speech

I was JUST in Dalaran today when that shit was happening too...im an idiot

There was someone in BRD using some sort of orc warrior disguise when I did it on my druid earlier, it made me do a double take because even the player's tooltip said orc warrior, and it made me want cross faction grouping. It would even have been the oerfect opportunity for it lore wise, and would make queues faster and shit with a bigger pool of players. And it simply looks weird and cool to have both factions in a dungeon (or raid).

So you can do the Invasions as a Demon Hunter but not the Broken Shore thing, right? Now is the Broken Shore thing supposed to be a unique prelaunch event thing or is it basically just them giving us the Tanaan intro quest early type deal?

Basically a combination of Ulduar being super easy to solo and cross realm tech, yea he's almost always saying it.

They actually did a fix to make it less obnoxious a while ago

The latter

But it is skippable in the future on alts. I guess so was Tanaan, but it involved that Timeless isle portal fireplace thing

From what I understand / read, Broken shore will always be in the game, but after Legion launches it will be a shorter version, basically just a "this is what happened" catch up for returning players down the road, the 40 man scenario will be for these following weeks until Legion.

Invasions will also only happen until Legion and then disapear completely forever.

You also get stuck back in the intro if you forget you haven't done it and go through the portal (I did that earlier in the week).

Thank god they let you skip it after doing it once. I ran that thing so many times in alpha/beta I'm sick of it.

They should use the invasion tech to just randomly throw in world events from time to time. Like an occasional Legion invasion every week or two (unpredictably) would be a cool touch. Sort of like how Deathwing would randomly scorch zones during Cata but less often.

They want you in the broken isles during Legion, not outside

Kind of a fun thought. Leave the space demon killing planet on your Demon Hunter. Land on Azeroth
'I'm prepared to slay the demons... but first'
your skill in archeology has increased to 5

Not really with how world quests work

The tech has been around for a while. Didn't they do just that with Elementals back in Vanilla? They did do Scourge Invasions prior to WotLK launching, but they were incredibly stupid and had no real rewards.

I don't know that it's fair to say that, all blizzard "wants" is for us to buy expansions and monthly fees. Occasional events that create buzz on a server and cause emergent game play can only help keep people involved for longer. The biggest thing that results in people leaving is the sense that playing has become stagnant.

Jusr realised there are no 110 talents for non-demon hunters. Thats pretty lame, its usually one of the draws to getting to max level, that new talent

Talent trees were overhauled, and individual specs were injected with new talents all over the place. Lording the last talent choice at level cap is silly. It is not even the norm for WoW. In Vanilla/BC/Wrath/Cata you would hit the major ability at the end of your talent tree well before level cap.

Is it just me, or are hunter pets a lot squishier than they used to be? Even in tenacity spec it seems like everything is tearing through them.

Specifically, the broken shore 40m scenario always be there, they said the scenario is able to scale even if just one person is queuing in. All the other prepatch stuff involving Magni and Dalaran wont be available, and will instead get the "heres what you missed " treatment.
