I don't see anything there addressing overflow servers.

This is the third time I can recall you talking about overflow servers. I'm going to guess none of us in here work at blizzard, so we can't answer your question. Asking them would probably get you an answer.

What the deal with the queues? Is it from server merges? Or did the game get way more popular than prior xpacs?

I think it's a combination. This xpac seems to have an extremely high initial attach rate. In the old xpacs, I remember a lot of people seemed to wait (what they did in the meantime, I have no idea). Regardless there is no excuse to have to wait hours to play a game that is a paid service.

Sure, you can choose to be irrational and demand special treatment, but the thing is, there are millions of other paying customers just like you. When a critical mass is reached, lines have to be set up to make sure that the whole thing doesn't just crash for everyone.

It's not even just about cost effectiveness. They set up a bunch of servers to alleviate the load and then people stop playing after a few weeks and the servers are empty. That's not a good experience for anyone.

Irrelevant from a customer perspective. With as much as they're raking in, they can put measures into place to deal with the extra traffic. They're doing it right now by incorporating this new Draenor phasing garbage to effectively split servers temporarily (and as they said, attempt to still keep guilds/groups together). They should have had that measure in place beforehand, full-stop.

You can't possibly defend the situation where a customer pays $50 for a game, $15 for a sub, and then can't actually play the game. It's indefensible. Sure, it happens, they fuck up, they're apologizing, and that's what they should be doing. They're letting customers down big time. They fucked up. "Every expansion launch is like this" doesn't work either - no expansion launch was this bad for this long in terms of queues. I think everyone's pretty agreed on that, right?

I say this as someone who's managed to get in with no queues for three days and played a lot. I can't even imagine how angry some of you must be facing the queues; I sympathize.

Played my first 2 hours today since by some miracle there wasn't any queue.

But then I had to leave and of course I come back to a 5000+ queue.

2 hours in 3 days. Next time I log in, I'm staying in. Auto key presser get.

And this is the catch-22. The queue times are idiotic largely because people aren't logging out...and people aren't logging out because the queue times are idiotic.

Thx... I'll give it a week to die down...hopefully...

its 6 am, the queues for frostmourne shouldn't be that bad... right?

2k queues.....

Blackrock it is, at least i managed to log onto fm once for like 10 mins after the previous maintance, all my 90s will have full rest xp the next time I get on and I'll get them to level 92 garrisons quick as shit #positivethinking

When your queue time is at least 300 higher than your position in queue. :( (Position in queue is >3000)
Guess I'll go outside for a while.

If this has shown anything to me, it's that apparently Ragnaros EU is the largest EU server. It's consistently had over 5000 in queue for a while now. Even Silvermoon has dipped down to 4000.

Ragnaros EU has free transfers to Drek'thar and Bladefist, both of which have large queues now too. I can't speak for Bladefist, but Drek'thar seems like it already had a community which isn't too pleased with being invaded with all kinds of people now.

I'm telling you why you're in a queue. Settle down, cowboy.

These same queues have been here the last two days. They aren't any more acceptible today than they were two days ago. It's ridiculous that I've been waiting for hours and still have over 2k people in front of me. It's become an entire day endeavor just to get into the damn game.

Don't worry, guys. Blizzard is on it.

Ugh......have some time off today and its just sitting in line waiting to log in.

Game is amazing so its so disappointing having to wait to get in......

Didn't have any of these problems with Pandaria.

Yeah, I'm at the point now where I feel like "unacceptable" is the right response for the delays.

Oh well. I guess I'll be able to play in about four hours!

Pretty soon I'm gonna have to just start queueing when I go to bed so maybe I'll be ready to go when I wake up.

Blizz really needs to do something about people not logging out. The queue times are a bigger problem than the queues themselves.

Yep, people should be suspended for it imo. I know people want to stay in but it really isn't fair. If you are going to take a walk, go to the store, work, school, etc. then you aren't playing. Log out, and deal with the Q. But nah, people just log on at 8am with no Q, AFK bot come home in 6 hours later and get to skip the Q.

What is this que all about? (I don't have the game right now and never played wow before.)

You want to log into the game and play? There are 5000 people ahead of you, you have to wait 7 hours before you can play.

Did you get disconnected for 10 mins or need to go to the store for 30 mins? Cool story bro, come home queue back up and wait another 7 hours so you can play again.

That stinks. And you have to pay for the game plus pay a subscription fee to wait seven hours to play? WoW! I would never be able to play under those conditions. My life is too busy.

The problem is, considering my work schedule among other things, if we go by your "rational" route, I don't get to play until 4000 people quit playing on my server. Is it special treatment to be able to play, full stop?

And there are plenty of people in the same situation as you. It's just what happens with an MMORPG launch/expansion launch. It sucks, but until someone figures out how to make server capacities unlimited and completely eliminate all choke points regardless of load when it comes to networking, this will keep on happening. I guess I've just played online games long enough to expect and plan around it.

I find it hard to get mad at Blizzard when they are facing the load they are. We can say they aren't doing a good job and not be satisfied by what they're doing, but there's pretty much no one on the same level as them, so it's hard to compare.

So I'll get home, and have to wait 6-7hr's to play. Superb launch.

Depends on your server. For example, on Kilrogg. I saw a 300 person queue last night and there haven't been any today. It's not necessarily a light population server, either.

But by all means, get angry in advance before even trying to log in and call Blizzard screw ups. That makes sense.

2 hours in the queue, went down from 5200 to 3600. I might get to play tonight.

I hear ya. I got into queue a little after 10am after coming home from my walk (big mistake on my part for not being an ass who stays logged in) and at this rate, I don't even know if I'll be able to play again today. It's absurd.

Sorry no. I have been through numerous MMO launches and expansion launches, nothing has been this bad ever. MoP was bad, Cata was bad, but it wasn't this level of BS. There aren't more in the world or hitting the servers than Cata.

I play on Stormrage, I know how it is gonna be when I get home. Look at the Stormrage server forums, people are already seeing 4-6k Q's that is 7hr+.

I just don't get it though...did they think nobody was going to buy this or something? How could they be this unprepared after a decade?

The expansion and tech just wasn't ready, but they didn't/couldn't/wouldn't delay it.

Area 52 still a massive clusterfuck. If we don't get a free week of gametime out of this I'll be pissed.

6k in the queue

Hey, stop calling it a clusterfuck and/or implying that Blizzard really screwed up. No need to be all angry about paying $50 for a game, plus 15 a month and not being able to play for the third day straight.

Odd when another company, cough EA Battlefield 4 fucks up everyone gets the pitchforks. If it is the darling Blizzard the massive defense force comes out in droves.

I think people have the right to be exceedingly angry about this, guess I'm just a rager.

Only two launches in the recent past compare on the suck-o-meter: SimCity and Diablo 3. So 2 out of 3 is Blizzard shitting the bed. They're not what they used to be, dropping the ball like this for the second time in a row.

6k in the queue

Yep. I've been in there 2 hours and I'm sitting at 3708... Glad I have a book I've been meaning to finish.

Worst part is not wanting to leave my computer for fear of a DC and losing my place in line...

What's really fun is when you've been in queue for the entire day, play for 20 mins and then get DC'd and have to wait in queue all over again because the disconnect grace period is also broken.

Is that new today? The grace period was working fine for me yesterday. I got kicked out while in the queue and while online and was able to get back in provided I re-logged within a few minutes..
