Worst E3 In Recent Memory?

I want to believe that Covid helped that, and I hope that next year things will be back to normal, with E3 having booths, big press conferences by Microsoft and Sony, and smelling people. That's the stuff

I don't think it's the worst, I just think people had much higher expectations, especially after not having one last year. So what we got was them picking up the pieces to give it another go, and it doesn't really feel THAT great.

There are still titles that they've shown that I'm interested in, so I guess I personally can't say it's been the worst. Could be more to come too, who knows.

I don't know, maybe it's just not the best way to handle these things any more. There seems to be fewer companies each year so maybe they're starting to realise that their money is best spent elsewhere. Having a couple of Nintendo Direct or State of Play type shows seems to get far more positive press when they happen than E3 shows do.

Yeah I mean some big players have shown up but they've got nothing to talk about or show.

I mean the studios have obviously found a way to work through the pandemic by this point I'm not downplaying the carnage it's caused but…Why go to E3 with little to no substance?

I mean you've sort of echoed my original statement 😂 Square was awful, Xbox happy for them, TakeTwo may as well have never came.

You mean to tell me if Rockstar showed a trailer for GTA6 with no release date you wouldn't have been happy? 😂 Anything is better than nothing.
Bruh. Please expand your vocabulary. This hurts my brain.

We didn't even get a new trailer for Postal: Brain Damaged so yeah... it is the worst E3 in recent years.

It's been 9 months!

It's on its dying breath. Theres been diversity panels and interviews with esports people. How is that selling a product? Way less hype reveals than previous years and less of the big companies involved

Maybe I'm old and this is what the younger generation wants (I've never heard a zoomer get excited about Avatar though, lol) but yeah, this has been the worst E3 I can remember.

Ms was on fire this year after like 4 years of dissapointment
The ascent
Psychonaugts 2
Flight simulator
Horizon 5
Halo 5

All releasing this year

I've added zero games to my "must buy" list.
That's never happened before. Nintendo though still.
(I did put Forza Horizon 5 on my "maybe" list).

Elden Ring looks great. I don't think the Doritos guy show is associated with E3 though?

MS had some good stuff.

Overall I will probably just skip it next year and watch the highlights after. The show is really bad now and not worth watching fully.

I said this in the Capcom thread but I've seen more political agenda driven content than games this E3.

Was the whole event sponsored by resetera?

Winner of funniest name and photo easily. All I can imagine is some streamer saying, "Thank you for the $10 Suck my monkey".

Everyone keeps saying "but wait for Sony's conference"!

If Sony seriously moneyhatted Ubisoft, Square Enix, Capcom and others into not showing anything during E3 - well, it'll certainly lower my opinion of them.

If Sony put on 2 hours of flute man it would be better than pretty much everything else we saw outside of Microsoft's conference.

I miss flute guy.

Yes. Definitely. Ew3. Electronic Entertainment Excrement. Crapcom. Square-motherfucking-Chaos-Enix. Flight Sims on Flight Sims. Ya' boy comes from Ohio wrecking noobs e-sports. Geoff Keighley had the best conference. High octane, edge of your seat nothing burgers. Next Smash fighter will be a Master Hand palette swap with his middle finger perpetually in the air. Final smash will be dropping a flaming E3 2021 logo on the stage.

I want what drugs he's on

Idk about you guys but im having fun, wasn't expecting many megatons but new Elden Ring Trailer, RE Village DLC, Team Ninja Final Fantasy, Mario x Rbbids 2, Babylon's fall and info/release dates make me happy.

Of course E3 would be dissapointing if Nintendo doesn't deliver tomorrow. i expect big things from them, they been silent for awhile

Yesterday I was in a hurry and quickly saw the post on Starfield's release date as 11/22/21. I was so excited, I shared it with my family (who honestly couldn't care less). When I got home last night to see the press conference, I saw that it's release date is 2022. After that conference, I watched Square Enix one and got really excited about the Pixel Collection…until I saw it only on mobile and PC. So, at this point, E3 has been a major disappointment across the board. I really hope Nintendo brings some good stuff tomorrow.

E3 lost it's purpose a long time ago, shows like this were indended to get retailers to order the hottest new games when they were on physical media in time for the holidays. Now it just exists to make money for the organizers and (Supposedly) for each of the publishers to measure dick length. People that go on the business side like myself know this and just went for the company paid jolly where you expense your company as much food and drink as possible while finding creative ways to expense strippers and hookers.

At least CES has new hardware and tech every year and is in Vegas. E3 can be done at any time with a well produced show reel released when it's not competing with every other publisher for attention in the same week.

E3 for the last decade has been either Sony or Nintendo blowing us away, MS over promising and under delivering and the third party conferences being a waste of time and energy

Take out one of the big 3 and it is significantly diminished, even if MS did a bit better than the usual fare - they still didn't blow our socks off

Maybe Nintendo will and that could be a big save for the quality of this year

I'd also say that we are potentially looking at needing to shift our expectations to "E3" instead being a couple weeks or months of reveals across the US summer period. EA is holding a separate event in a few weeks and supposedly Sony too

One thing I hope is that after COVID we get back to the live event format. There's just a big difference in the energy of an exciting reveal with a crowd there. I think a lot of publishers will save the money though and go to Directs format

Problem is devs think Resetera is a representation of the whole gaming population, whereas in reality its a niche community compared to Reddit, Twitch, YouTube which dont hold the same morality police values
