Would you be happy with a new mainline Final Fantasy release every 2 years, if it meant PS2-era graphics?

Fast FF dev cycle at the expense of graphics?

The problem was never the graphics.
And the development of video games in general does not imply the development of graphics alone.
(Octopath Traveler is a clear example)
Moreover, since I love their work whith FFXV, they should continue absolutely in that road.

Because the Final Fantasy saga is not a niche saga. It is a saga of AAA games, revolutionary and stratospheric from first to last.

I'm not a massive FF fan like many, but I just wanted to say that I'd love it if development for more games scaled back to PS2-era (or earlier) visuals if it meant getting more great games.

Or maybe developers could do some smaller scale stuff concurrently with their bigger projects.

ps2 graphics were really the golden medium for fast dev times. when i look at the graphics on the switch - it looks fine. Not every fucking game needs to be a 'cinematic experience' with poor/recycled/lame gameplay mechanics and tons of cash-grab DLC.

Some good points being made in here, things I hadn't thought about before. It is true that some devs seem to be able to develop pretty solid current-gen-spec games in relatively short timeframes, isn't it? (FromSoft comes to mind.) I do have to wonder what's wrong over at SE Japan that their dev times are so long--Nomura can't take all the blame.

This has also got me thinking about longer dev times in general, especially since next gen is around the corner. I definitely want AAAA graphics / physics / animation / etc, but that's at odds with games being developed in a reasonable amount of time. And I don't want to wait around forever for my favorite franchises, since I play fewer and fewer games in general as I get older. Remember the Metroid Prime 4 delay announcement 1.5 years ago? If this were the PS2/GC/Xbox gen, then MP4 would be almost ready by this point. That's crazy to think about.

square enix is probably the last frontliner of jrpg AAA visuals, the one that keep put their toes among those big fish from western developers..yes we can see they kind of 'struggling'....but i wonder what might happened to whole Japanese Role Playing Game scene if they 'gone'.......... i cant remember who saying this, but here concern from few years ago( or last gen?) that the company or the franchise success is critical to drives the japanese video game industry.

also, what we see from other western game, it is possible to make great game with good content and gameplay paired up with cutting edge visuals...we see tons of example from western rpg..ofcourse, achieveing it not easy either...however i believe the problem is people just:

1.doesnt have confident on square enix ability..there concern of visual focused will affected the game quality of content, like stuff already happened to xiii and xv
2.dont have the patient to wait for normal AAA 4-5 years cyle of development...some cases might be more than 6 years..maybe also due to those who still think that square actually took 10 years to make games lol

which is i also understand..but i willingly to put faith in them..i believe current SE arent same as before..in noclip documentary of xiv, naoki yoshida also highlight one of the company problem is "unhealthy obsessed towards pretty visuals"..we see the company changes in these past years such as new ceo and other stuff, there studio restructured happened, people like yoshida (who restored my faith toward the franchise) also get promoted to board of directors, and we see the company output in these past few years...so yeah...maybe we could give them chances

beside, since at beginning era of videogames, Final Fantasy is always up infront in term of technology...i dont want them to change...its basically part of the franchise dna. The game not just represent quality story, world, characters, music and gameplay..also technology
