I think I don't like this as a Metroid game. I can get though the bosses after repeating until I get it right, but I hate the stupid parry QTE shit. Some fights are just dodging and shooting until you get the opportunity to do that, but if you miss the stupid timing, tough shit. It is just a fucking QTE that you work hard to get a chance at. The boss fights also feel too long and the retrying makes it even longer. My gamepad ends up feeling slick from a little sweat and a ton of mashing. I feel satisfied when I beat the boss, and think it is fun to get better but I will never want to do it again, because I will suck at it again and have to go through the same thing.
Metroid games used to be highly replayable, not filled with a bunch of boss fights that many people don't want to go through again. I'm sure some will replay it, but I doubt a high percentage who replayed Super Metroid a ton will. It's just weird. I like it, but would have preferred just regular dodge and counter that was maybe only 80% as long with no need for the QTE shit. If the game was like that, I would consider doing more runs to get a better time which was a lot of fun in the old games.
