I had the same issues as OP, but also my biggest problem with it is it just doesn't feel like a metroid game at all.
I played it on an emulator at 165hz and I freaking loved it.
My only complaint would be that in some parts it got almost gratuitously challenging/punishing for no good reason (both in terms of bosses and in requirements to pull off some "advanced maneuvers to get some collectables), but then again in the end I managed so it wasn't exactly impossible.
Other M is definitely a better gameIm not a fan of the Mercury games. I think I enjoyed Other M more.
The final boss at least is a challenge, Super Metroid’s, which I still think is the greatest game ever made, is a complete cakewalk even if you’re speedrunning with minimal upgradesThe game has the most boring locations of any Metroid game like, ever. And the final boss is total bullshit. Not a huge fan tbh
Come. The. Fuck. On.Other M is definitely a better game
I really feel they should make a Metroid spinoff that’s 100% shinespark puzzles and fucking stop filling every mainline game with those. Most of the secrets are also shine spark related which gets old fast.
Come. The. Fuck. On.
Other M isn’t half as bad as the internet tried to convince everyone back then, but even comparing it to Dread is crazy pills territory.

Replaying Zero Mission the other day only refreshed my opinion that fucking half of that game’s 100% runtime is shinespark shenanigans.
My main gripe with Dread is that there’s too many “keys” to too many “locks”.
There’s an upgrade that’s literally required once to get past a pond that’s a bit too wide to jump across otherwise. Kinda like that last upgrade in Prime 3, used literally once to open a blocked door.
Stuff like this only makes the map seem overdesigned and the game more linear than it should. Funny, then, that they intentionally put in so many ways to sequence break the game.
Same here, 100-percented it and it was my GOTY, I’ve finished it several times after that. For me it’s better than any Prime game with a wide margin. Metroid should be 2D. And I believe MercurySteam is said to work on another Metroid so hopefully we get to have these 2D games around for awhile now.I loved it. Completed it 100% and would dearly love Nintendo to greenlight more 2D Metroid games alongside the Prime 3D games.
There’s no doubt in my mind that they’ve already green-lit another 2D Metroid. Dread is the best selling game in the entire franchise.I loved it. Completed it 100% and would dearly love Nintendo to greenlight more 2D Metroid games alongside the Prime 3D games.
Yeah there is no official info but reading between the lines makes me sure they’re doing another one, they’ve said that they loved working on it and working with Nintendo and the result and critical success makes me think it’s a lock. Nintendo should acquire the studio tbh, locking up a future of these high quality 2D titles now that Retro are back doing 3D.There’s no doubt in my mind that they’ve already green-lit another 2D Metroid. I’m guessing they’ll be there mid gen on Switch 2.
Isn’t Team Cherry like 2 people? They have their hand full just making Silksong, can’t do any parallell work. Theoretically they could do it in another timeline, but I’d rather see them making a new Zelda 2 in that case, they’re experts at melee combat. What if Team Cherry is working on a new Metroid besides Silksong?! Nah, Id much rather have Moon Studios take a go at it.
