WrestleMania 21 patch is out!

I want to kick this game when it is down, then kick it again and again and again, not letting it up for 2 minutes then atempt to pin it 20 times in a row

IGN is the last place I'd trust for info. Most of those idiots thought there was nothing wrong with the game to begin with and say it's the greatest thing ever.

correct me if I'm wrong but how can you get the patch if the game doesn't even to connect to xbox live?
This is exactly what I was thinking. :lol

It seems it is an actual patch to X-Box Live that will update the game. So I guess if you have a WM21 save on the X-Box, it will dl the patch.

Who knows how it works but it does. I was kind of surprised that it worked also. Besides fixing the no online part of the game the patch also fixed the slowdowns during replays after the match and a few of the other glitches.

Only bad side of the patch is that when I downloaded it it erased my created superstar :( I was kind of upset because I already beat the season mode and was waiting for the patch to go online with my wrestler. If you guys are putting off the patch until after you finish your legend, save yourself some time and download the patch now.

When you get used to the speed of the game, it's a good game. I don't see why it recieved all the negative comments on alot of message boards. Yes, the speed is slow at first and takes some getting used to. Yes, there is some minor clipping issues, but it's nothing that takes away from the game. The AI is spotting at best at times especially when you are in a tag match and your partner just stands there when all four wrestlers are in the ring. If everyone stops expecting No Mecry in every single wrestling game made since 2001 and play the game for what it is, they would enjoy the game much more.

That's the problem, wrestling fans shouldn't be simply ok with getting a lesser game so many years after a true gem. Here Comes The Pain is the only game since that I feel is worthy of being bought.

Got a few questions regarding this game...

What's the maximum number of wrestlers in the ring at one time?

Can legends be used in storyline mode?

Is it easy to create factions? How big can they be? Can mutiple factions be made?

Guess that's it...if the answers are satisfactory I might take a flyer on the game in a few months when I can find it cheap.

What was wrong with it that needed patching?

Xbox live didnt work AT ALL
Replays Had slowdown and lockups
Main Game had lock ups

From what I can tell the patch fixed these

I went ahead and bought the game and my thoughts after a very brief play thru are this:

for a first effort, the game is good, the A.I. is spotty which definatly hurts the game over all but the mechanics are there and I Agree this game needed about 6 more months to be a "true classic"

As I huge wrestling fan and wrestling game fan Id rate games such as

no mercy, KOC 2, and fire pro Z a 10,
A game like HCTP an 8,
a game like WMXXI a 6,
with games like raw 1, 2, and low 1 , 2 ,3 being 3s or lower.

edit: and about people not being able to hit aerial attacks on rising downed opponents so far I cah hit rvd when hes getting up with hbks moonsault just fine , ??? so I dunno ???

edit, edit: people on ign are reporting the AI seems better in HITC now also (people get up a little quicker and the cpu doesnt keep slapping on submissions) altho how they could tweak that with a patch leaves me skepticle

So this patch fixes off-line bugs? Didn't MS state that no patches to fix offline bugs would ever be allowed over Live in order to stop developers from using gamers as beta-testers like they do on PC's?

well apparently the OFFLINE freezes , and replay issues are gone so take that for whats it worth. Also the patch is a bit heafty at around 2550 blocks with no other saves, which is equal to about 9 and a half songs ripped to the HD

edit: and if any other suckers....erm I mean wrestling gamers wanna play me my tag is

ZombieSupaStar (but im not doing the league sorry)

Thanks

Jeez, that is unbelievable that a game could be released with so many big problems.

Having spent now a good 3 hours on it I can safely repeat what I've been saying all along. This game fucking sucks, patch and all. The patch only prevents the lockup and enables LIVE play but the gameplay is still shitty and there's still programming, AI and collision issues.

Not only that, but LIVE sucks ass, it lags for most of the match, plus every single person I've run into in LIVE is a punks ass bitch that disconnects when I'm beating their ass.

Basically this is the usual WM21 online match:

opponent *punch* *punch* *bounce off ropes* *punch*
me *counter* *counter* *body slam* *submission*
opponent *punch* *punch*
me *counter* *ddt*
opponent *disconnects*

And only 10 minutes for every online match? Fuck that shit.

I'm going back to No Mercy and VPW2 on Project 64.

So we should just except games with spotty AI for tag matches... Man when did we start setting our standards so low?

That's just weaksauce. That whole "oh well it sucks, but it ain't that bad" mentality is why wrestling games are so shitty. Setting your standards low and conforming to mediocrity, especially when you pay $50 for the game is just a lame excuse to make yourself feel better about the purchase you just made.

Developers should cater and accomodate the quality of their games to us, not the other way around.

Why does THQ have three different developers working on three different games for three different consoles? Does that make sense to anyone? Wouldn't you get better results if you have one developer or many developers working on one game for all three consoles, pool their resources and make one good game instead of three shitty ones.

...THQ only has two developers. Yukes makes both PS2 and GCN Wrestling Titles.

Then why does THQ continue to mess with the xbox and assign a different developer besides Yukes?

Because Yukes is spread thin as it is and Microsoft wants to have a developer who can make pretty, shiny plastic people. Without that, the Power of the XBox just isn't obvious enough!

THQ is under the impression that hardcore wrestling fans (ie idiots) will buy all three titles.

Anchor was dropped because they wanted an American studio they could have total control over through the entire process. Considering how WM21 turned out WORSE than Raw 2, someone has to be smacking themself right now.

Then again, judging by sales numbers, I doubt they care. Remember 96% of wrestling fans are idiots and, well, will buy anything.

yeah id lower my review to a 5

the game is crap not quite as big a turd burgler as the low series but with KOC2 and FPZ sitting on my shelf under a coat of dust I should be ashamed

ah well this and Time Splitters 3 are going for trade in any new hot games out this month or next?

The game literally gets worst as you play it more. I mean, whats the point of that intricate and supposedly deep counter system when the CPU no sells most of the counters, example the CPU went for a DDT, I countered with a punch to the gut and literally after my counter connects, the CPU grapples again. At least in the AKI games countering meant that your opponent was opened up to an attack by you, here it's worthless and broken.

Countering strikes is worthless since when you do, the opponent gets pushed back like 4 feet away from you, preventing you from either striking or grappling him immediately.

The sad thing is as a wrestling fan who bought each of the N64 titles, I haven't bought one western wrestling game this generation. You're right in that they don't care, just look at the Smackdown games and their sales numbers. It's just a shame they've dropped off in quality so much this generation.

Ok, I've already had my first 2 lock ups. First on an exhibition match against the CPU, it locked up after a replay, then on a different match with the CPU it locked up during the fancy, red tinted finisher animation. So I set the camera to Game which means no angle changes and no replays and it seems to have stopped.

Also, not sure if it can be considered the game freezing, but during a Tag Match with other people online, which was surprisingly not that lag ridden, the game froze for about 3 minutes and then it unfroze and notified me that the other 2 players quit the match.

On to better and more positive things, I was playing No Mercy on my PC last night and practically updated the entire roster to their current appearances, especially Angle, Christian, JBL etc. Cool thing is that the move sets are not that off, they are actually pretty accurate with what certain wrestlers are using today. I played Benoit vs HHH vs HBK on the Wrestlemania arena for the WWF title. It was awesome. So sad to see an engine that only needs to be upgraded graphically and probably sped up by a little bit go to waste.

I know this isn't the '21' doesn't refer to the number of Wrestlemania games (does it?), but whenever I see the title it makes me laugh a bit, like Tomb Raider 32 or Jak XXIII.

I sure hope that the Xbox gamers are a bit more discriminating...

Unfortunately it's the truth, there's many desperate wrestling fans in North America who haven't seen any quality wrestling games for years so THQ takes advantage of the situation with half-assed games.
