WSJ: Apple to increase iPhone screen size to 'at least' 4-inches

I really like it. The two-tone brushed metal looks great.

Then again, I'm just a fan of minimalist design - I'd be happy if all my devices were plain black/grey rectangles.

Here's a look at the new iPhone assembled from actual leaked parts. It's likely the most accurate look at the new phone so far.

I had the OG, too, and it was MUCH better than the 3G/S design. I didn't have any problem with the phone, quality wise. It felt a lot better than the plastic of the 3G. And of course the 4 is a much better design. You're getting off point. I'm saying that the 4 was a big step from the OG/3G design. The next iPhone should be a similar leap. Instead, this is just a minor change, which is a shame.

*shrug* It's an improvement, and I don't see how they could make as similar of leap as 3G to 4, sometimes the technology just won't permit it. As long as they keep progressively getting better with each iteration, I think they are heading in the right direction. People are really going to be complaining when these things get razor thin with no bezel and they can't do anything unique with the device.

Agree. It feels too safe and too lazy. I expected better from Apple, it's a good design no argument, but I want them to push it further and do more. Take a change in terms of design and leap ahead again. Everything about their fall phone experience feels too safe. Everything from the phone design to iOS 6. I hope they have an ace up their sleeve, because stock Android is beginning to get ahead of them.
Nail on the head right here.

The new stuff for iOS6 is underwhelming especially. They need a large UI overhaul IMO.

Looks amazing, and I'm fairly confident the pics are of what it will look like. They line up perfectly with numerous leaks over the past year.

The bevel on metal edge is a beautiful touch, just noticed it. It looks like the front panel is not fully attached. The bevel stops short or the edge.

The more I look at it the more refined it looks. I never liked the look of the 4 because it looked unfinished, it literally looked and felt like a pre production assembly as far as details go.

All the chamfers in the 5 make it look a lot better, complete and intentional.

I can't wait to see the screen. The 4's screen blew me away when I first saw it. Then again, everything about the 4 blew me away at first.

What's the reason for the two toned on this model? Is it for antennae reasons? Can't be, though. It's the rim bumper antennae, though?

The rim appears to be part of the unibody so they probably switched back to regular centralized antennas.

Whats funny/sad, it could end up being a brick and I'll end up buying it. So locked into the ecosystem :(. My iPhone4 just about had it.

Can't wait to hear the reasoning behind this design. I have to admit the camera not being centered from the top to the metal is really bothering me in an OCD type of way. But what's the selling point going to be for this phone other than screen size? LTE? NFC? I think LTE is for sure, and NFC is a strong possibility with iOS 6. Anything else?

If its not an iPhone its not an iPhone.

I agree totally, they need to move forward on ios as the hardware is beautiful. Why can't the weather tile give me the current temp instead of the standard sun and 29 degrees? The calender tile does it.
it's refined and does it's function but it needs tweaked.

My guess is battery. I would have a nerdgasm if they some how figured out how to get 16 hours web/20+ talk.

Not really a fan of this new design. The next step should be something like a complete unibody enclosure a la iPad and an edge to edge screen, not a step back in minimalism from the iPhone 4.

Bigger screen, LTE, and NFC are pretty big deals. It'll probably include a camera that shits on everything else (again), then there's the fact that it'll be an all new shiny design. And then there is whatever else we don't know. Seems like they have more than enough to go on. Just gotta wait and see if everything is executed right. I'm not worried though.

If there is one thing I'm not worried about a single tiny bit its the new design. I can't imagine them putting something out that doesn't look straight up sexy when you see it in person. Its pretty much apples thing.

Er, have you ever looked at the bottom of an iPhone 4?

I sort of like the new design. There are differences from the 4. I'm not entirely sold on that raised front panel though.
Er, I suggest you NOT look at an out of date model and the most recent iteration. 4S put in new proprietary screws.

Looks nice though not as good as the 4/4S. I was expecting that though. Based on the picture, the white will more than likely look better. White/metal looks more clean in comparison to Black/metal.

I will more than likely get the new iPhone since my 4S is about to be full. Definitely need to get at least a 64GB one.

iOS 6 doesn't look like a big jump but I don't think iOS needs an overhaul just yet. Android got an overhaul because Android pre-ICS was pretty bad. It got overhauled to compete head to head with iOS. iOS doesn't really need that same overhaul. That's not to say I wouldn't be opened to a new UI but to change it just for the sake of changing it would be kind of silly to me, especially if it's all cosmetic and doesn't make any actual improvements.

I think the brushed aluminum segment on the back should exactly match the screen on the front. The black on the back should match the bezel on the front.
