Wuchang: Fallen Feathers Has Made Certain Bosses And NPCs Unkillable Following Backlash In China

It's claimed that these changes have been made thanks to the backlash received from Chinese players, as fans concerned with the country's history are apparently upset that you can kill prominent figures from the Ming dynasty. It's also being reported that a 'Pray' emote given to the player by a Portugese Christian character has been removed too.

I wouldn't really call that censoring. It's just weird all around for something that's just a game. As long as the fight itself is fun I really don't care if they die, collapse, jizz themselves, or whatever. In fact it would be great to have options how to finish bosses in soulslikes similar to MK finishers.

I have no idea why this could cause a big outrage in Chinese players. But well, I'm not an expert in ancient Chinese culture.

Where are the dudes who were praising that these chinese games are the future of Sony? I wanna punch them in the face if they still think games made in a dictatorship country that censors shit is what they want from their future games. Copy pasted UE5 slop. Fucking lmao.

I keep saying this but y'all are not ready for the Chinese takeover of vidya

you will long for the days of EA and Ubisoft.
we are already longing the days of EA and Ubisoft, when they released decent games

but right now even if chinese are mostly making souless crap it's still better than current EA and Ubisoft

Maybe comparable to killing someone like Jefferson, Lincoln, the Pope or whatever. I can certainly see how some westerners would get offended and outraged by it.

It's a work of fiction, I certainly wouldn't care.

Yeah we were talking about this in the OT. They gimped some stages(specifically at the beginning of chapter 4 I hear) to adhere to the demands. It didn't really ruin the game and the rest of the patch(what it changed) was good for the game, but it is very weird. China really hated those farmers could be attacked, lol.

Ah, I get it now: I missed the part of the characters that now don't die are innocent farmers and one significant person for the history of China. I thought they were instead mosters significant only for the story of the game.

Now it makes sense, specially considering they are particularly sensitive regarding gore, corpses, etc.

Hum…censor a christian pray gesture? Why?
I assume for the same reason it gets censored in the west: key people putting the money aren't Christian and want to avoid whatever that remotely can be considered Christian propaganda.

Couldn't they just patch the Chinese version instead of ruining it for everyone. Going to skip Chinese made games from now on, Wuchang being the last one I'll buy, and I'll skip on Lost Soul Aside. It should be illegal to sell game x and patch it into game y afterwards.

LOL I remember when Oblivion launched with all NPCs killable including ones that would make the story impossible to progress if you killed them or let them die

This was such a huge problem for Bethesda because people would irreversibly break their save games from just playing that they eventually patched it so some NPCs would just fall to their knees for awhile before getting up again

Skyrim had this behavior by default for all story essential NPCs

The fact that so many of these recent Chinese games have had heavy historical stories makes me feel like the studios were not only pressured to portray things a certain way but maybe even received funding on the condition that their games glorify Chinese historical figures and events.

I get it in some ways but it is kind of fucked up if true.

I think Wukong probably got a pass because that story is fantastical and has been made parody in other media like TV shows, etc. "Go ahead and kill Shigandang, we don't give a fuck!"

Vampires would wreck nonessential NPC populations if you fast traveled to cities, including merchants. Fucked my shit up on a couple playthroughs. Never ever fast travel when vampire attacks start happening around level 10.

Replace "chineses" with any other race on the world aside from whites and you ll have a serious problem.
That's very true. Especially when I posted something about those damn reptilians. But on a serious note, you are correct, If I would say the same about any other race / religion(except Christians) I would get fired, banned (probably here as well) or have some online mob on me. Unless I say it about white people or Christians then I'll most likely be applauded

IMO there are 2 angles to be considered:

- On the one hand, for people outside China this may look nonsense and devs should have not bothered with it. The game is mostly fantasy, anyways.

- On the other, it's their customers who are review bombing the game because they didnt like whatever that thing is. It's not the government, it's not youtubers or twitter warriors. It's your customer, the players.

So, if we are constantly asking devs to listen to us, this goes both ways. If a good chunk of people who bought the game doesnt like it because of some historical stuff and devs think that might harm them in the long run, I understand their decision.

it's the same as AC Shadows. In that case, most people complaining were not going to buy the game so Ubisoft didnt care, but here it's a chinese dev unwillingly pissing off their main audience.

I'd release a patch only for China or leave both versions available for global.

Random and chaotic stuff like that is WHY you fast travel around that time.

I think this started happening because the vampire attacks were added with the release of the Dawnguard DLC but yeah I've heard stories about this

Apparently you should directly complete the Dawnguard quest line and not travel to cities too much after started it to reduce this problem
