Wuchang: Fallen Feathers | Review Thread

Allergic to soulslikes at this point. So much time, money and effort wasted on this shitty overdone formula.
This is just a bullshit statement. The Souls formula is absolutely the best genre for new studios. The budgets are cheaper because the games can be more linear, cut scenes don't really matter because the story is usually inconsequential, and graphics don't need to be cutting edge either. It makes developers focus on combat above all else. And Most Souls games play nothing like one another. The biggest "Souls" games like Nioh, Lies of P, Elden Ring, and Khazan all play quite different. There is great variety within the genre

I don't like JRPG turn based games, but you don't see me going into JRPG threads complaining of their very existence. Millions of gamers enjoy this formula

Right? Why the salt over this genre? I think RTS is the dumbest games ever made. But I'm not here complaining because one gets made. It's not for me but millions enjoy those too. Don't like? Don't play. Don't buy. I'll not buy any RTS. But I'll not whine and complain about people who do

Great for them I say.

Roguelikes actually. As I said in a different thread the ones saying Souls games are oversaturated I roll my eyes at when I see thousands of First Person Shooters being churned out every month and no one says anything about those.

It's actually kind of funny they say they hate them since one of the early games that could function as a Souls game today is both Super Metroid and CV: Symphony of the Night or even Zelda 2/CV2: Simon's Quest. And EVERYONE loves those.

For me I like Souls games but not much in to Souls clones….I only play Souls game FROM made.

If FROM stop making them then I will look for other alternatives but until then I don't need other Souls clones.

I can appreciate that. But some of em might quench my thirst until whatever their next souls like will be. It'll obviously be 2-3 years. If not more. Sadly.

But it thanks to that I dont get tired of Souls formula because just dont play every Souls clones that comes out.

When I get to play Souls games I want it to be actual Souls game not "Souls-like" (I fucking hate that word).

2 games personally to me can't get old. CAN NOT EVER

DS1 and DS2. Haven't dove into DS3 much admittedly. So can't judge. But my GOD is DS1 goated. I can Just boot it up for 45 min and have a blast.

For me thats Blooborne, Elden Ring, Sekiro and Armored Core VI......two of them are not Souls games but these 4 games are my favourite FROM games ever..

Especially Sekiro.....I can play that game forever and never get tired of it.

That's like saying the only FPS you play is DOOM/Wolfenstein, the only platformer you play is Mario, the only JRPGs you play are made by SQUARE. I'm a true FromSoft fan and have often said *nobody* does it like FROM but the fact is they created a (sub) genre and it's expected devs would make games within the genre as they've done with literally every other genre ever invented. There are some quality games out there inspired by the Souls formula, try getting over your FROM snobbery, you might be surprised.

I've just now kinda started Sekiro. The parry timing is awful for me on the harder enemies. Parry is obviously mandatory and not a suggestion like Dark Souls.

Mine are Bloodborne, Sekiro, Dark Souls 3, Elden Ring, Dark Souls 1, and Demon's Souls.
Then I love Nioh 2, Nioh 1, and Lies of P.
All time bests are Ninja Gaiden 1 & 2, Metal Gear RR, and Devil May Cry 1 & 3 & 4 & 5.
Can't wait for Ninja Gaiden 4.
We don't talk about Dark Souls 2, Devil May Cry 2, or Ninja Gaiden 3.

Most people are gonna disagree with me but to me Souls-like are not some kinda genre like RPG, FPS or Platformer......they are essentially just action RPGs.

Eh. But not really. They ALL share the quick heals. Dodge rolls. Boss rushes. Bonfires. Parry. Upgrade mechanics. Lose everything after dying (twice)

FF7 remake is an action RPG right?

Hence the term "sub-genre", Souls formula is undeniably unique, this fact doesn't require your agreement lol. Anyway, you've posted dozens of times you only play FROM "Souls-likes", I think everybody knows by now. I still say you should at least give one a chance and see if it clicks, I'd start with Lies of P 👍

I'm buying this or Stellar Blade. Likely on PS5? Why? Cause I just recently got a used slim PS5 and want to coddle it some

I'll see what this game looks like after embargo and decide.

I want this game to be good.

Most of these mechanics existed loooong before Demons Souls.
Not tryna "call you out". Not like that. But what game is most like souls prior to souls. I'm sure some mechanics did exist prior to, but not like this. Not how they do it. IMO anyhow. Could be wrong. Want to see the most "souls" like game prior to souls

I mean you mentioned Parry which is actually very common mechanic among action game and action RPGs and even then parry are not main mechanics in Demon Soul, Dark Souls, Elden Ring and even Bloodborne, you can play the entire game without ever using parry…..Sekiro is the only game that uses parry as main mechanic and that game is not even Souls game.

Demons Souls is not even first game uses stamina to limit your movement, Monster Hunter had stamina system long before that game.

Souls games use many mechanics. It didn't invent stamina or healing. But cmon. Give me a game similar prior to it?

That's my point, at its core it's action RPG, what FROM did is made it less forgiving and heavily punish your mistakes.

To me Souls-like are no different than Monster Hunter-like…..they copy the formula but in my opinion they never captured what I like about those games.

So Monster Hunter is a souls like?

No what I'm saying similar how God Eater is Monster-Hunter like, these games are Souls-like…they both about copying the formula and gameplay loop but again in my opinion they never captured what I like about those games.

It's not a new genre. It's a sub genre. From owns that sub genre and deserves to be credited with its invention.

Like Blair Witch Project didn't invent horror. More like found footage horror

Souls games, the real ones, are not about particular mechanics but overall game design and philosophy. It's subtler, but you can feel which ones do it right. Not many people have From's creative talent.

The most "soulike" game IMO is precisely a non-Souls: Hollow Knight. Its tone, dark atmosphere, music, difficulty, vague story (but extremely rich lore) seems straight from Miyazaki's notebook, adding their own flavor.

Okay they are sub-genre…..but my issue "sub-genre" Souls-like it's same issue I have with Monster Hunter-like….to me when comes to feel of the combat, monster design and atmosphere, they are no where near as good as the original…..Im sure some will disagree with me but that just my opinion.

Think about it. Horror alone has many sub genres

Torture porn (saw)
Found footage (paranormal activity. Blair witch)
Slasher (scream. Friday the 13th etc)
It's a genre within one

Again we can call Souls-like sub genres if you want, I'm just giving you my issue with most Souls-like games and why I don't play them….same reason why I don't play most Monster Hunter-like games.

From invented a particular combination of elements regardless of whether or not they were used before. And to that they added a groundbreaking online mode never done before.

It's fair to say they invented a genre or subgenre.

This game for the record is not a souls like. It's pretty and nice soundtrack, the rest is as mediocre as it gets.
I agree that this game is not souls-like but I still enjoyed the game enough that played it twice in row but I'm also desperately want new Yoko Taro game VERY BADLY….I hoped this game hold me over until new Yoko Taro game get announce but as much as like Stellar Blade it's no NieR…..not even close.

I miss Yoko Taro….

Combat and bosses are amazing. As an action game its fantastic and it has lot of variety, I dont get this "mediocre" thing. More so when it's better than Automata in those departments and it's not even close, like 2-3 gens ahead.

Suddenly story is the deciding factor for action games. I guess DMC and Bayonetta suck too.

I'm ass at combat. My brain expects "souls" controls. So new system. But it's pretty and the combat is fun.

By action game standards compared to DMC, Bayonetta, or Ninja Gaiden the gameplay here is doo doo. Too large and lame levels, uninteresting enemies, and more mechanics than it needs to achieve the same goal at an attempt to seem deep when it's shallow.

Story doesn't matter in these games, but gameplay does and I got bored when I got to the canyon place.

Nier is good despite its shit gameplay lol, and its also uninteresting enemies.

Best way to express what I mean:
