Wuthering Waves |OT| - Devil May Impact

Got access through work to the latest Sensor Tower report with the state of mobile gaming in 2024. 👀

Wuthering Waves is mentioned as one of the top launches of last year. As expected, most of the mobile revenue came from Asia, but North America has a sizable share as well.

It would be good if that were the case, but since this is a Sensor Tower, you can basically ignore this information. I especially like the small print at the bottom, and in the dimmest possible font, so that it's definitely not visible.
Although they didn't even make this note before, more detailed analyses are available on YouTube.

My man, I've been working with Sensor Tower data for quite some time, and their models are fairly accurate and have improved a lot, especially with the acquisition of data.ai which was merged into their unified service.

The estimates are ofc not exact figures, but educated approximations based on publicly available data, trends, their proprietary models, etc.

Btw, if you work in the industry then you should have access to this new report by using your corporate email here - https://sensortower.com/state-of-mobile-2025

This video you've linked has nothing to do with what I've posted, which is a page I've screenshoted from this new Sensor Tower report with the state of mobile gaming in 2024.

So this data you've dismissed without a second thought is not something that's filtered through a random 3rd party website, which apparently was adding a multiplier to the total revenue for each app to make up for the missing Android CN data that Sensor Tower clearly states it doesn't provide.

I didn't point out that there was something wrong with their positions. I think hardly anyone will argue that Pokemon TSG had the best start (I have it and all my friends I know have it, numbers aren't even needed here), I was just talking about numbers. And the fact that they are far from reality, and most importantly, why is all this needed when all the other companies openly trade and provide quarterly reports with numbers for investors and this is not classified information.

This is the problem. The problem is that they themselves are indicated as the source of information. The problem is that they say that it is Android + iOS, but at the same time they immediately indicate that iOS is only considered for China, and they give a breakdown in percentages by users in different regions. And since the source of information is not official financial documents, or even financial stock exchange reporting. And I do not see the attached file with the calculation work and how these statistics were formed.

And yes, I also work in trade (wholesale purchases and shipments of consoles and games), so in this regard, we are colleagues in some way :messenger_tears_of_joy:
For me, reports like these, without a base and supported by official documents, make my eyes twitch.

I don't know why we're even having this discussion, and to be honest, based on our past interactions, I don't care enough to continue arguing here. It's just a waste of my time and probably yours as well, so I'm bowing out.

Also, sorry to say this, but expect way fewer interactions from me going forward since you're quite a difficult person to engage with. I'm pretty sure I'm not alone in this opinion, as you keep talking down to me and many of the regulars in this OT like we're clueless about the topics we're discussing. This is an enthusiast gaming forum, and I assure you that we are not.

Love me some lollo logistics events.

So I'm all finished up with the Rinascita 2.1 quests, characters quests, etc. Working my way through the fishing thing. I'm actually having a pretty fun time cruising around the islands catching fish with Fibi. I read that they stole the fishing minigame from some other game, but I think they did it well at least. I'm a sucker for inventory management stuff like this. I don't quite get the joke/angle they were going with where the guy wanted to fuck the fish though. Maybe it was lost in translation or something?

Does anybody know what the lantern attachment gadget does while fishing? I used it a few times and it pulses light out 5-6 times, but I don't know what that does. I tried doing it next to some night jellyfish, but it doesn't seem to do anything to them.

From what I understood seems like some kind of mechanism to protect the boat against those jellyfish enemies.

But 99% of the time you wont even use it.

Mobile revenue estimates by AppMagic (Android CN not included since there's no Google Play in China). I do wonder how well it did on PC and console in the same timeframe, considering the game on mobile is pretty heavy and you need a pretty high end phone to run it well, which might leave some players with no other choice than to play it on PC or PS5.

Kuro Games' gacha RPG Wuthering Waves has surpassed $250 million in gross mobile revenue in a little over nine months.

The open-world anime-style game was released globally on May 22nd, 2024 and crossed the quarter-of-a-billion mark 288 days later on March 6th, 2025, according to AppMagic estimates.

Ending that day at $250.8m, Wuthering Waves has since reached $255.5m with an average of $878,000 in daily player spending since launch.

These estimates are for global player spending on the App Store and Google Play, and do not include revenue from other platforms, alternative app stores or any web store.

I'm honestly a bit surprised at how bad Brant/Changli rerun is doing. Sure there's still plenty of month to go, but usually the first few days of a banner is the lion share of the revenue.

Yeah, I'm kinda surprised as well, tbh. I think the next banner is Cantarella and that one should do good since there's a lot of hype for her.

Edit Still, it's not looking good for the future prospects of 5* limited males. Those interested in mostly male characters have probably saved up a lot of pulls over the last few patches so they didn't have to swipe for Brant...

True.

It's really a shame because I think Kuro does male characters better than their competition. At least their males can be enjoyed by everybody with decent designs.

Then you got miHoYo over here churning out this shit for their "males":

'males' lol, those males are just one iron particle away from being Females, hehe. GET IT?!!??!?! WHY ARE YOU NOT LAUGHING!!!!!

To be fair though, the Not-Gilgamesh is about to drop in Star Rail, and some other 2 male units that look like men.

From top to bottom:
  • Roccia
  • Camellya (my current pfp)
  • Yinlin
  • Yangyang (?)
  • Jinhsi (?)
  • Changli
  • Shorekeeper
  • Not sure, but maybe Rosemary (?)
  • Phoebe
  • Carlotta

Finally got my 2nd team "finished" tonight. Carlotta/Yinlin/Jianxin. Doesn't look good on paper, but they're a hell of a lot of fun to play together. Jianxin makes up for some of the lack of AoE by grouping with her Liberation, and her invincible counter is so damn satisfying to use in quickswap. Yinlin's coordinated attacks makes up for Carlotta's single target stuff since anything marked gets hit when even a single attack hits something. This team is probably more stylish than my Rover/Changli/Shorekeeper team once I get into a rhythm. Probably a better general bossing team too as long as I don't get hit too much. Jianxin's shield also heals, but slowly and it's usually a liability to use it in difficult encounters since she has to stand still for so long. I hope to get her to S6 someday because it significantly buffs her. Hopefully Kuro gives us a standard banner selector for the anniversary.

Now that I'm done with my "favorites" teams, I'm going to start on some meta-relevant teams. Up next will be my Camellya/Roccia/Baizhi team, followed by Jinhsi/Zhezi/Verina. I really hate Jinhsi's gameplay, but for now it's too strong to ignore considering the number of endgame modes we have.

Just received the latest report focused on the CN gaming industry (both domestic and overseas), which also includes performance of CN mobile games in overseas markets for Jan 2025. Here's the relevant information about Narushio (and yes, I know that the data I'm receiving is lagging behind)

Wuthering Waves experienced an impressive 275% MoM overseas revenue surge, marking its best performance in the past six months and securing 2nd place in revenue growth rankings. It also re-entered the top 14 in total revenue.

Those stats are very promising, but I stopped worrying about the future of the game so much after 2.0, with both the revenue and the quality we saw. I'm not saying it's going to be back-to-back banger months all the time, but the game is performing well enough for them to continue development and investment into the IP. Provided they don't fuck something up too bad, they will likely have up and down months just like HoYo games do.

I just hope they don't get cozy and rest on their laurels doing standard event and patch formats, and keep the playerbase guessing and surprised with new features/modes/etc.

I'm not sure what they could do to bump their revenue up to the next level honestly. I think they should absolutely divert some resources into rewriting/redoing the new player experience though. It's still fucking terrible, and that's gotta hurt their ability to retain new players until they get far enough to hit at least Mt. Firmament.

If there's one thing they SHOULD do in my opinion, it's definitely remaking completely the 1.0 experience. Leave the map alone, but rewrite and redo the entire fucking thing.

I can't even imagine how many potential long-term players they're bleeding because of that shaky onboarding.

Yeah, I agree that they need to rewrite and redo the entire 1.0 arc because even in this OT we've had several GAF users who were put off by it and just ditched the game. I can't really blame them for doing that, but... insert the digging for diamonds / never give up meme.

Maybe now that they're getting some $$$ from that Tencent investment, they'll dedicate some of it to this major pain point of the game, and hopefully they'll have something ready for version 3.0.

Based on my (limited) experience with Tencent driven games, the monetization is about to get a whole lot worse. Hope not though.

Anyways, Finished up the "main" parts of the fishing event. There are a LOT of fishing quests and delivery quests. It was kinda fun at first but maybe it's a bit too much? I saw there seems to be a weekly resetting shop that you can get materials and stuff from with fishing currency too, even after this patch ends. I was kinda mad that the quest with that Dana lady (the delusional psycho) just ended without any closure or resolution. It was so long and so many steps, and then that ending... I felt ripped off. The "main" quest kinda did that too. Brant shows up out of nowhere, drives the boat into a whirlpool, we fight dollar store Lorelei then the day is randomly saved offscreen by Cetus? None of that quest made any sense to me after we finished lighting the lighthouses.

That event weapon actually looks pretty legit for Feebs, stat wise. Overall I give the event like a 6 out of 10 after it's said and done. Started out great, but there was way too much wasted time traveling around to the fishing spots and way too much grind for the rewards.

Do legendary fish only respawn once a day? I saw that the legendary fishing delivery missions give 300 of the Rinascita weapon crafting material each, but like a dumbass I just sold them on the sea for money. Now it seems they won't respawn anymore today.

thank goodness

I really want them to not have to keep worrying about maintaining the game and the current quality of content. Tencent should really just do whatever the fuck they can/is needed to make WuWa really compete (in terms of brand awarness etc. not quality of the game) against Genshin/Star Rail, this is WuWa is probably as close as they're gonna get to cut into the AAA gacha pie. NetEase is gonna come in hot with Ananta (which looks damn good so far in my opinion).

I hear you, hoping the same.

And now that you've mentioned Ananta, I'm really excited about it as well (I've been looking forward to it ever since they dropped the first trailer at Gamescom in 2023). Hope it releases, or at least that they have an open beta sometime this year, since I really want to play it, lol.

Btw, here are some gifs I made from the trailer they posted a few months ago. They're quite large and load slowly, so I've hidden them behind a spoiler tag.

Answered my own question, apparently it's just a few hours to respawn them. I logged back in this evening and they were up again.

Well, I 100%'d the fishing event, the islands area, and the book including the mutants and the legends. It's funny, the fishing event had sort of a bell curve for me. At first it was fun, then it sucked in the middle, and towards the end I was having fun again. Once you get Wonder Bubbles set up at all the docks and max out the trawling upgrade, it's so much more manageable.

Also I found out that the legends requests don't give smithing ore after all, it's special currency for that gondola shop outside of the first island. Still some nice stuff in there, so I'm not bothered by it. The iron chests aren't really worth it though. They just give totally random echoes/low tier mats including plants and shit. I'd buy out the upgrade materials before those, if I could do it again.

It's a shame the fishing minigame had nothing to do with fishing really, just a "tap at the right time" game. At least there were several variations to mix up the gameplay a bit, I gotta hand that to them. Between the recent ZZZ fishing event and this one, I prefer this one as a whole.

I am nearly out of all generic TD mats right now, which sucks balls. I'm going to have to just start running around slaughtering random mobs in Jinzhou again because I need those stars/rings/cores. At least I still have a lot of random puzzle/collection things to finish out, since I didn't rush it before they put in the in-game tracker for them.

Yeah I wish the fishing was a tad more involved than interface tapping, and having us go to those danger zones for longer periods of time, then the event would've been really great. Still liked it very much, but I feel like it could've been much more.

They missed a golden opportunity to have sea monsters attack your ship when your danger bar got above level 3. Would have been really creepy and immersive. The jellyfish just didn't strike any fear into me. But yea, that would have been cool.

Been using my Camellya/Roccia/Baizhi team to farm TD materials, and Camellya feels so much better with Roccia there to gather the mobs for her. The gather is actually a pretty huge range too, I was a bit surprised. The team feels really good to play and is pretty strong, even without being maxed out. I'm digging it.

So I kind of was and still am in the same spot as you after maxing out my Changli. So rather than just farming random TDs in Jinzhou, I've also been doing the forgeries from Jinzhou instead of those from Rinascita because they have stars, rings, and cores in the loot table. I'm actually doing this right now because I want to level up some of Verina's skills tomorrow after the reset when I get access to the weekly boss mats.
