WWDC13 Thread of iOS 7 & Mac OS X 10.9, where a whole new world's developing

Has anyone shown the lockscreen music controls yet? Or Podcast controls etc. I use these frequently, if anyone could do a test, that'd be great! Thank you :)

It uses both Bluetooth and WiFi Direct, according to Apple:
http://www.apple.com/ios/ios7/features/#airdrop

Just tap Share, then select the person you want to share with. AirDrop does the rest using Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

I suspect it's similar to how they use a NFC+WiFi Direct combo for some things on other platforms.

This is me having pressed the share button on a photo, the boxed area is where people would pop up (e.g. a picture of the person from the contacts list, or whatever picture they assigned to themselves in their contacts if its someone you don't have in your contacts list).

Thanks. So do you need both WiFi and Bluetooth turned on to share?

There's no chance of a third party client on Windows/Android being developed for Airdrop, is there?

Guys, how can I see my UDID of my iPhone in the latest version of iTunes?
All I'm seeing is a serial number besides phone number and capacity.

Also, can't you change the app shortcuts and settings shortcuts for the Control Center?

...hate me...
Yeah, I'm seeing lots of confusion online about this...
So, if Airdrop can use bluetooth, why doesn't it run on all iDevices?

Aye, app links. It would be nice to have an option for gifting an app via Airdrop as that's easier than the current email model.

Screenshot please?

Heh, so I jumped to conclusions. Sorry.

@Greyface, you're misquoting me a couple of times ;p

I think you just click the serial number to change it to the UDID from memory.

Click on the serial number, should change to the UDID.

There are also some apps that can give you your UDID (couldn't find it in the settings menu where it should be).

ActMonitor is one of them.

edit: late, sorry

For those who tried installing ios7 without verifying their UDID was set in the developer portal, like me, you can get your UDID from system profiler > USB > iPhone. It's the serial number. I thought I bricked my phone for a second because I didn't think I had a way to access my UDID without iTunes.

Been running it since last night. It's... Inconsistent. The control center is downright ugly and I hate some of the new icons. The new animations and parallaxed backgrounds are really cool and definitely an improvement. But the overall look of this is really dissapointing to me. Safari is a nice improvement though. The icons on the bottom look dumb, but I love how the whole interface pretty much disappears once you start scrolling.

Just noticed the clock app icon is finally moving. It's showing the wrong time though...beta

Is airdrop iphone5 only? Can't seem to make it work with 4s.

Also they added the ability to let subscribers add photos to shared photostreams! Finally!

The files you receive pop into whatever apps' depository if you will automatically if accepted (you get a popup "hey, blabla's phone wants to share this <file thing> with you, Accept/Decline?"). E.g. photos to to Photos, videos to Video, iRadio opens the Music app. I'm also fairly certain that if you accept documents for apps you don't have (say a Pages document) it goes into your iCloud storage under Pages. I think that sort of thing is the idea at least, from reading the dev notes on the subject (incl. support for third party apps). Not sure how much of this is live in this build however.

Maybe I'm missing something obvious, but how do I airdrop anything from iRadio? I can't seem to find a share button anywhere in the radio section.

Time to embed the panorama meta tag in regular photos (I'm assuming this is what it picks up that allows for the extra scrolling)!

Something that bugs me about the icons is how the gradient direction isn't consistent. Sometimes it's brighter at the top, other times the bottom. (For example mail/messages vs phone/videos.

I don't think this is new, but perhaps it's just more obvious now that the icons are simplified. Can't unsee the inconsistency :/.

Anyways... I'll be curious to see if this design gets tweaked before launch. Probably will change... I mean, look at the original osx compared to what it is now.

Argh crap. I re-installed OS X Lion and installed Mountain Lion again, but I'm just reminded, that I forgot to take a back-up of all of my school projects (websites) which were on the MAMP server. =;(

Panorama lockscreen wallpaper:

Huh. that's way more extreme than I thought they'd go.

I think I prefer the subtle perspective shifting when rotating the phone than something really active like this. does this work with icons on the screen, too? seems like it would be super distracting.
How does that work on the homescreen?

This seems like one of those things that 99.9999% of people wouldn't even try, and the people that DO try, will know what they are getting into if they do it.

All standard resolution wallpapers act extremely subtly. Most people would likely need to be told it's happening to even notice it.

Maybe this is just a very self-aware post by Gruber that he just doesn't know how to defend his position vs. a snarky dismissal of opinion?

...maybe?

:lol

Do we know why there's no widgets anymore?

I used the weather one all the time to check out how the weather would be for the next days.

Aren't there a setting for "notifications & widgets"?

Seriously, Apple?

You want me to pay £15 per lightning cable just so I don't have this message appear every time I plug your equipment into my car?

Loving iOS 7 at the moment, really liking the look and feel of it. The search bar you can make appear I haven't seem to get working yet, it doesn't seem to search a thing - other than that, all good :)

First day with iOS7 I really didn't like it. Especially the icons. But now that it's been a little longer I've found little things in the OS that I really, really do like.

+ Snoozing calendar alerts. Though for some reason this is only from the lock screen and you can't snooze to start time. So usually I have 15 minutes before alerts on all my appointments, and the snooze is for 9-10 mins just like the alarm. So If I snooze twice the next time it'll alert me is 5 minutes after a meeting's started. Not helpful.

+ Marking callers as spammers, never to ring or bother you again (awesome).

+ Control Center on the lock screen. It's a little cluttered and I could do without the brightness, rotation lock or flashlight buttons on here.

+ I like the agenda view on the lock screen. "Your next meeting is at blah blah blah" and "The temperature is __, with a high of __." Very Google Now, and I like it. Throw my commute to work in there and we have an awesome feature. :D

+ App Store updates apps automatically, then tells you which ones it did.

+ Going back a page in Safari by swiping from the screen edge. Love that.

+ New folder setup (though 3x3 is a bit low - I'd prefer 3x4 per page in folders).

+ Swipe down for spotlight. Much better than the previous implementation.

+ Multitasking. I like the live page previews.

+ Being able to mark mail as Spam without clicking on the message.

And some cons:

- Safari, Settings, Photos and Camera icons. Those are the WORST. They look terrible.

- Game Center. I didn't like the look of it before but this is not an improvement. Also, the icon. Bleh.

- Clearing notifications from the lock screen is still a mess. Maybe even worse now that you have tabs for "All" and "Missed". Missed doesn't seem to go away.

- Folder organization. If I delete an app in a folder, the apps in the subsequent pages inside the folder don't slide over to take up the empty space. I have to manually move everything over. Happened to me when I placed a bunch of games into a folder then deleted a half-dozen on different pages.

- The weight of the font on the time/date on the lock screen make it hard to read if you have a bright/white image as your background.

- The ••••• for cell signal strength are a lot larger than just the bars. I kinda get why they did it, but I don't like the change.

- The alarm clock icon changed slightly to have "bells" at the top instead of just the clock face icon. Not a fan, particularly.

And then the LORD David Bowie saith to his Son, Jonny Depp: 'Go, and spread my image amongst the cosmos. For every living thing is in anguish and only the LIGHT shall give them reprieve.'
Really do hope they let you clear notification center items with swipes eventually. Hitting that little x in the corner sucks for me for some reason.

Am I the only one who thinks control center is really ugly? So many lines and shapes, it's so busy. I'd rather have those controls than not though, so it's still an improvement.

I think the worst part is that it dims whatever behind it so it looks awkwardly bright, like there's more "light" coming through the frosted glass than there should be.

Can't get the panorama to work on the lock screen with a panorama I just took, any tricks?

Also, that Notification Center bounce is killing me, WHY?!

I still can't figure out how to get to it. I saw it once but I can't remember where.

In the music app, there's an iTunes Radio button on the bottom left to get you in there.
