X-Men Anime |OT| - Third time's a charm for Marvel Anime!

Sometimes I wonder if I was truly sane when I started watching X-Men, and that my sanity is now being vindicated by others, or if I was insane all along and my insanity has now spread to so many others... :(

Episode 2 was also pretty good. The scene with Hisako's parents felt a bit stilted, but outside of that it was highly enjoyable, with some nice fights and character interaction, although I wish Beast had more to do. The music is just plain awesome for this show.

So now that more people have seen ep2. I'm curious: do you think Storm's "weakness" is just bad writing (inconsistent with ep1, done for lame dramatic effect), or do you think something's up with her since they landed in Japan? When they first meet with Hisako's parents, she seems to be sweating too. Is she unwell?

I thought it was something related to the whole "unscannable area" thing and that it wasn't just one of those random inconsistencies anime tends to have to make action sequences more dramatic, but we will see.

Considering that it effected her on more than one occasion I'd have to assume it's actually deliberate. I imagine the cause was the bad in-flight food you get on the Blackbird.

Having just seen ep 2 I was thinking it had to do with the whole unscannable area thing. Maybe they are using some sort of device that limits or hinders mutant powers?

seeing both of the episodes I think Storm is being poorly written, limited so that she couldn't own the U-Men without a thought.

This is damn good so far! One quick question:

Have the mutants always been like this, specifically Storm, where they get tired or fatigued after using their powers? Kind of a bummer when Storm is all fucking boss and then shes tired and out of breath...

Either Storm is being affected by U-Men somehow or it's a way for the writers to keep her from using her powers too much, and overshadowing the other characters.

Storm does not get tired from using her powers in any other canon.

I guess that makes sense since she seems to be the most powerful one of the group.

2 for 2, I'm starting to believe Duckroll isn't trolling. :P

Post Pheonix Cyclops is the best Cyclops, and a level headed Wolverine just amplifies the fact.

This has to be the most enjoyable post Pheonix adaptation of X-Men I've watched so far, the tears of joy, they won't stop. T_T

As duckroll had previously reported, the second episode was also good. I can't quite believe I'm writing that.

They used surprisingly low amount of CG as well during the various action sequences. Amazing. It's like I'm watching an action show from the pre-2000's (that had a budget).

Also, Emo Cyclops is the best Cyclops.

Yea, they pegged Cyclops extremely well. Capable leader who is a hard ass.

Yea I think it's deliberate. If this was a 52 episode series, I'd wonder if they were going to do a "powerless storm" arc >: D

But yea, Beast's reaction didn't seem to suggest that he's accustomed to her being tired out from using her powers so quickly.

Should be interesting.

All this has me wishing that Marvel and Disney get working on another X-men animated series after Ultimate Spider-man debuts. Getting Craig Kyle or Chris Yost to produce it would be a plus.

Judging from the upcoming episode titles...

Episode 3 should mostly deal with Armor manifesting her powers, and episode 4 should be when Emma gets her secondary diamond form mutant power. It'll be interesting to see what exactly triggers that mutation in this canon.

So does anyone else think that the Sasaki Institute in Japan that Professor X was trying to contact is the anime version of Emma's Massachusetts Academy? That could be interesting...

Second episode was good stuff, this kind of feels like a classic 90s action sci-fic anime series with all the hand-drawn animation and minimal cg, plus the action was pretty solid and the ending got me hyped to see what happens in the next episode.:o

... On one hand.. I cannot fathom a good Marvel anime after suffering through most of Iron Man and Wolverine.

On the other hand, dat Storm... Seriously, first time I really liked a Storm design in awhile.

I wouldn't say it's bad writing yet.
Seems more like a way to artificially limit her powers while adding a lame dramatic effect as well as others have said. If there's something wrong with her health, then I'm not expecting it to happen in the next few episodes until they decide to stress it. Dialogue indicates it was more for lame dramatic effect than anything else personally, and I doubt the U-men are affecting her powers or any of the X-men's either. If the U-men were, it make more sense for countermeasures to happen this episode, not the next. Perhaps it would have been too much content for one episode, in which case, the only plausible explanation for Storm's weariness right now for me is troubled health, which they don't want to talk about yet.

GAF-Hype couldn't let me wait for the dub but after this episode, I think I might just wait. The show is good but I get a feeling it's going to start off slow. I was expecting Armor to do some fighting in the second episode but perhaps I expect too much.
I also don't like how Storm seems so weak. D:

Just watched the first two episodes and now I'm hooked, enjoyed this a lot more then I thought I would. And oh yea Storm is Hawt!

Cyclops and Logan is pretty out of character, why is Cyclops so emotional and Logan being so level headed? It's usually the reverse.

edit: I keep forgetting this is post phoenix cyclops and not the current cyclops.

Totally retro vibe going on here, and in a good way. Just being competent is pretty shocking at this point.

Storm character design, a distinct improvement...

This show has been awesome so far, first two episodes were great. I can't believe how nice the character designs and animations are overall. Definitely has the most potential of the Marvel Anime produced thus far.

Episode credits for the next few episodes from Newtype magazine:

Ep3 - Armor [Awakening]
Script: Mitsutaka Hirota
Episode Director: Shunichi Yoshizawa
Storyboard: Akitoshi Yokoyama
Animation Director: Minami Yoshida

Ep4 - Transformation [Secondary Mutation]
Script: Hideo Takayashiki
Episode Director: Hiroshi Ikehata
Storyboard: Tomoyuki Niho
Animation Director: Shinya Segawa

Ep5 - Power [Unity]
Script: Mitsutaka Hirota
Episode Director: Naomi Nakayama
Storyboard: Yoshiaki Kawajiri
Animation Director: Ai Yokoyama

Ep6 - Conflict [Fierce Battle]
Script: Hideo Takayashiki
Episode Director: Yukio Nishimoto
Storyboard: Ken Ootsuka
Animation Director: Mika Yamamoto

It'll be interesting to see what episode 5 is like in terms of quality. Kawajiri storyboarded several episodes in Iron Man, and two two episodes in Wolverine as well, but because of the terrible production quality it didn't really have much of an impact. Although I did like his episode 4 in Iron Man (which had the origin story as a flashback), so hopefully if they keep the production quality of X-men up, we'll see Kawajiri's storyboarding shine even more here.

I was kinda piss when Scott wasn't using his optic blast during the motorcycle part, but at least they have a reason for it
yay emma.

My heart is warmed. At least they'll be an animation budget this time.

Just saw episode 2. Really good. I especially liked the cliff hanger style. The only scene that was corny and could be cut was the one with Hisako's parents. More good Logan/Scott drama. And if Scott keeps on with all this Jean guilt, well, Emma Frost will have plenty of fun is all I'm gonna say.

This has been an awesome surprise and many thanks to duckroll. My kids watch this with me and they are pretty much in awe.

Caught up with ep 2, very good! Hisako's parents was the only scene that was kinda bad like everyone else mentioned.

Episode 3 has noticeably lower production values. Thankfully this is not in the form of bad art (well there are some slightly odd Emma faces) but rather in the form of cost saving measures. More pans, more camera angles at non-talking characters, etc. Story-wise it's a lot a bit slower than before, but it does bring the current mission to somewhat of a close. The action sequences are still pretty good, even with less of it this week. Overall a solid B episode which ties up current plot threads and opens up more for the next few episodes.

The next few episodes in particular should be pretty interesting! At this point the story could really go in several directions, and they're still holding their cards pretty close to the chest in regards to what the real plan for the villains are.

It's funny how they actually kind of explained the reason Storm couldn't use her full powers, mutant supression device or whatever, and then, less than 3 minutes after that, they gave yet anouther reason for her to not be able to use her full powers.

I actually though episode 2 was even more pan and tilt heavy then this once, although this one did cut away to the scenery quite a bit. Not that it mattered as it was mainly talking.

I was wondering why Emma didn't just transform earlier and kick the cyborg's ass, I guess it's because she didn't know she had the ability for it yet. I'm glad they at least explain it that way instead of "Oh yeah I could have done that anytime I wanted but I just didn't want to because SUSPENSE." Anyway I still hate the middle schooler, they could have at least made her a student in college.

Anyways, this is the third Marvel anime and there are supposed to be four made. Are there any rumors on what/who the supposed fourth is about?

Finally, if this get's dubbed Emma better have a delicious English accent.
