Every time I see Wolvie in his costume, I think Batman.

Anyway, good first episode and it sets stuff up well but still feels a bit janky.

I figured the folks showed at the beginning of the episode weren't the Hellfire Club but the Brotherhood but now that I think about it yeah, it's probably the Hellfire Club. Leland reallly looks like the Blob in that shot though.

Can't say I'm a fan of Armor's design getting a bit of the "Ojou" injected in but eh, oh well.

Well yes, there's that but seriously, that design for Wolvie looks like Batman up close.

It looks... nothing like Batman. Lol. I can see the Hawkeye comparisons, but definitely not Batman.

I can kind of see it, but there's way to many masks like that that cover the top of the head and leave just the mouth visible for me to associate it just with Batman.

The main thing about Batman's mask that makes me think of Batman is that it's a full head piece, and not a face mask. Kinda similar to what Cyclops has actually, just with extra "horns" on top. On the other hand, Wolverine's mask mostly just a face piece, which is why it's gone after something blasts him face on.

That's how I associate the two anyway. Which makes Hawkeye just a lamer purple Wolverine who fires arrows like a pussy instead of going up close with claws.

Could Cyclops really have killed Wolverine if he wanted to?

I'm not familiar with comics at all besides games and movies, but I thought Wolverine could regenerate from a skeleton.

Yes he could, since the optic blasts are concussive force and he only uses a fraction of the power. Cyclops' optic blasts are capable of blasting the skin off of the Hulk if I remember correctly.

Anyways, watched the episode last night and it was really good, though not too crazy about Xavier's voice. Having introduced both the U-Men and the Inner Circle was great though and can't wait for the next one. Now I have to check if I can stream this through Keyhole, otherwise I've gotta wait.

do anime/manga studios make decent moneys? I dont know for sure, but I am guessing shows like this and Highschool of the Dead etc are getting file shared more than being purchased in some way.

If the sales for these Marvel Anime shows are anything like the sales for other anime based off of western properties, then there's a good chance they'll sell much better than other anime, even when they're kind of janky.

At least for the Marvel Anime, G4's going to air them, so they should get at least a good amount of exposure (though I hated Wolverine's Travis Touchdown look in his standalone series). Coupled with it being able to be featured in both comic conventions and anime conventions, the overlap in audience is built-in for the most part.

Hopefully they'll release them individually...would rather not have all properties collected into one BD series.

At least in Japan, the releases will be separate. Unlike normal anime though, they seem to be releasing them western style. The prizes for a X-Men contest in Japan recently was BD box sets for Iron Man and Wolverine, indicating that they will be releasing them in box sets instead of individual volumes.

Huh, that's interesting... Releasing them western style that is. Still, I'll most likely wait for the NA release, though considering the dub choices that Marvel announced at WonderCon for both the Iron Man and Wolverine anime... I may just grab the JP release instead.

It's weird that the best X-men animated show I ever seen was made in Japan.

I'm not sure if that's a reflection on how good the "anime" X-men is or just how bad the "cartoon" X-men have been. Although I really enjoyed X-men Evolution.

If doesn't make that much money, I think Marvel is trying to make the super hero franchise popular in Japan (movies, comics, etc)

I liked the first episode, I'll have to see where it goes but so far its X-men. The animation is fine, but I'm not a huge fan of the designs. Wolverine looks huge, isn't he supposed to be relatively small? And holy shit look at those tits.

Saw the first episode earlier today. It wasn't bad, but at the same time it didn't blow me away. My biggest gripe comes from the [mis]characterization of the characters and how they too closely resemble oft-used, anime, archetypes. Like Wolverine is the rough and tumble Yakuza dude who says hurtful things, but it's only because it's what the introverted, pretty-boy, lead, who-has-yet-to-see-the-value-of-having-friends-to-rely-on, needs to hear.

I guess as long as I keep in mind Japanese are the original target audience, I can look past whatever tweaking they do to each character's personality. Hopefully it won't get too far out there.

This is actually pretty in line with the Scott/Logan relationship, especially the dig Wolvie gives him in saying Jean would think him a coward (forget exact wording). That has been going on since the Byrne/Claremont days.

I really liked this episode. A little anime emo at times but they're setting up some good stuff. I like that they seem to be using the Morrison New X-Men as a base--the next episode featuring the U-Men was a pleasant surprise. I do hope we get the return of Jean and more Hellfire Club though. The credits showed one enemy in particular that would blow me away if they did that storyline.

When's the next one out??

Looks like a few more Basilisk regulars are showing up as episode staff, as well as other recent industry staff who are actually know what animation means.

Ep2 staff:
Script - Hideo Takayashiki
Episode Director - Yukio Nishimoto
Storyboard - Iwao Teraoka
Animation Director - Katanao Akai

Haven't seen it yet, but I hope it's good!

Is the ED any indication of characters we will see in the series? That Magneto looks like a BOSS as usual.

Nope. It's just a fucking sweet long homage scroll designed by one of the animators. It's really sweet though.

Ep2 was pretty good. Pretty nice action scenes, and it's nice to see the X-men working as a team. I'm really digging the original designs for the mecha stuff and the monster stuff. Production values seem to be keeping up well, and more importantly the art is pretty consistent.

Can't wait to see Armor and Emma Frost in action next week. Woooooooooo!

It's never been so hokie and obvious. It was just much cheesier and transparent than I ever recall it being.

I may check this out.
Except for the Aussie Wolverine, the pilot was good. The 90's show was good. Some people think the Xmen High was good. The only problem I had with the 90's show was it didn't look right to me. The animation was decent. I liked the characterization, the VA's, and the storylines, but it didn't look as cool as it should have. I got over it eventually, but something like the "Cry for the Moon" japanese OP style with all other other elements taken from the American show would be perfect. Sort of like what they did for Batmanime.

It varies in cheesiness depending on what X-men you're reading. But it has always been there in a totally transparent and direct way. It gets even better in ep2, you'll love how tsundere Logan-tan is! <3 ^_^

I guess I'm just used to it from the American perspective. Seeing it done with a copy-paste of a generic anime character dynamic I've seen so often before is like breath of fresh cheese. Maybe that's why it stands out so much.

I'm a little shocked that the second episode didn't suck. Hmm.

I actually enjoyed the first episode, what the hell. I didn't think i'd ever like an X-Men cartoon after my childhood cheesy original. I'm impressed, look forward to checking out what comes out of this. Beats Ironman and Wolverine into the ground.

First episode was pretty good, so I'm excited to see where this show will go. They're really taking a serious approach to this, and the characters are all acting like I would expect.

Evolution (after the s0-s0 first season) and Wolverine and the X-Men (:() were both great. Only the 90s show was bad.

Damn i had some gut feeling that they'd revert back to wolverine / iron-man levels past the first episode. Good to see it's remained consistent!

This is what I kept thinking when I was watching this. The animation and art was slick as hell but some of that dialog along with the Xavier monologue at the beginning was kind of 'eh'.

As duckroll had previously reported, the second episode was also good. I can't quite believe I'm writing that.

They used surprisingly low amount of CG as well during the various action sequences. Amazing. It's like I'm watching an action show from the pre-2000's (that had a budget).

Also, Emo Cyclops is the best Cyclops.
