Oh dear. As others posted, DOFP was a really fun flick and was expecting the same level of quality. A shame that its scoring like this, was expecting a 65-70ish RT Score as well :(

2 out of 8, so yeah...it's foolish to expect much out of the series at this point.

See, I disagree entirely there. I thought X-Men 1 was mostly good, and I thought X-Men: First Class was fairly great. I wonder if the series just kind of suffers in that the first film is bogged down by introductions, the second film is so good because it's none of that shit, and the third film fucks up because it raises the stakes too much, or general fatigue.

I mean really, we should be dogging on how shitty Superman movies get! A couple good-great movies early on, two really bad ones, and then three mediocre ones.

Apparently this is currently tracking behind that Alice in Wonderland sequel (Disney have forgotten how not to make money) at the moment and you have to wonder how much more the general audience would be excited for this is they hadn't buried Oscar Isaac under twenty pounds of shitty looking Power Ranger prosthetics.

oh shit, wasn't expecting this kind of reaction

I was. In fact I was surprised that Fox held press screenings for this as early as they did. It seem to reflect a confidence in the project that wasn't reflected in the early industry 'chatter'. Perhaps they managed to pull the film together in post and it turned out great!

Evidently not.

X-Men don't deserve that.

Man, I really was not hyped for this and thought it just didn't look very promising, but there was so much hype for it that I kind of thought maybe I was just the crazy one. It's disappointing to see it may not be that good after all.

Wait, people didn't see this coming? The trailers didn't look too good. Also, the whole story focusing on Mystique, yet again, lol jesus christ.

DOFP wasn't amazing either. First Class is legit though. Charles and Magneto blew it out of the park.

i just figured the marketing was godawful. none of the trailers managed to hype me up for this at all. jennifer lawrence looks like she's in sleepwalk mode and oscar isaac looks fucking ridiculous. oh well.

Wouldn't put too much stock into critics anymore, really. They failed on two huge accounts recently, in my opinion. BvS wasn't the disaster that it was made up to be, and nor was Civil War the masterpiece they all said it is.

I'm still excited about this as I've loved just about all X-Men films save for The Last Stand.

Sounds like a paint by numbers X-Men movie, with the bonus of making Mystique a lead character without lead character charisma.

The reaction is kind of surprising. The trailers haven't been too hot but Singer's last two X-Men films were quality (and Fox's marketing for this series is always garbage) so it's weird he would suddenly fumble the ball now.

Pretty sure Singer screwed up Apocalypse.

And this is what happens when you show the same 10 X-Men characters again and again and again and again....

I know that it's still too early to call based on a couple reviews but I can't say I'm surprised at all. Not a fan of Singer (which earns me a lot of bashing online). We'll see how it does when more reviews start coming in.

I mean why didn't you just let Matthew Vaughn do the damn trilogy

That's what I wanted but every time I tried to bring it up people would go out of their way to tell me I'm an idiot and that singer=god.

A lot of people attribute DOFP entirely to Singer but don't realize how much of it Vaughn actually wrote. Now we have Apocalypse with no input from Vaughn.

Should have kept the series in the hands of the guy who embraced the yellow spandex instead of the guy who went out of his way to make fun of it.

I agree with you on this (though I liked civil war and thought BvS was.....tolerable at best).

But when a reviewer who outright loved X2 and dofp bashes this then it worries me. I'm more inclined to believe it's a misfire then in this case.

That's what I thought. Just a case of bad marketing, good movie. DoFP didn't exactly have good marketing and neither did First Class and they turned out great. I'll still go see this to judge for myself but this has hurt my expectations a little.

I wasnt happy where the first class movies were heading with singer returning so I'm not too shocked by this outcome. It's the same dark monotone costumes, same character arcs apparently repeating itself and the misuse of so many character in previous movies left me not caring. I just hope cable isn't brought into this mess in the future.

Man I was looking forward to this one, still going to watch it but its a bummer that the reactions aren't too hot. Hopefully its decent at the very least, measured expectations and all that.
