Thanks for bumping this thread guys, like have buckets of salt rubbed in the fresher-than-I-expected wounds.

Will give 2.0 a try, can't say I'm confident.

What ship is that at the end of the video?
xr_shiphwsk0.png

Maybe its a close-up of a smaller ship... looks big.

Holy cow! Thanks for asking!

Edit: and egosoft links to pdf guide on 2.0: http://www.egosoft.com/games/x_rebirth/features/2.0/XR_2.0_Manual.pdf

You are welcome, thanks for the heads-up too, I will jump back in when I have the time :)

No bald cap? Lies!
Played a little bit last night on totally new save, put everything to max to see how it went. Opening scene is still terrible, was barely above 20fps, but after the afterburner scene I was sitting around 43fps and it held on pretty good to that for the most part and was above 30 even in a fairly well populated sector. I'll turn down the LOD, view and effect distances from 100 to like 60-75 which should hopefully get me some performance increase.

Still feels kind of jittery though even at 60fps. New cockpits are nice and interactions are more snappy. The combat cockpit is pretty nice except the HUD stuff is way too big and centered on the screen. I still prefer the Better Cockpits mod.

I'll have to put some more time in and see how the rest of it is, but really I don't have much of a desire to jump back in, especially with so many other games coming out now. It's definitely improved, but the baseline game was so lackluster that even with the changes the sour taste is still strong in my mouth when I think about it.

Any X Rebirth players here? Just saw the steam flash sale ($25) and I can't tell if the game is any good. Reviews were awful but it's not clear how much the patches have improved it. How would you rate it now?

Interested to know this my self, for the same reasons. Have a few other game purchases this week so would like to see opinions before buying.

From what I've read, the game is improved but still shit compared to X3. I'm pretty bitter towards this game :/ I'm just really glad I held out on preordering, I knew X games are always buggy at release, didn't expect the actual game to be bad, though. Shame.

At release it was a 1/10, it's now maybe a 2.5.

is it really 2.5? was planning on reinstalling it after reminded by the steam sale lol.

the patchnotes made it seem like it fixed most of the nags i had.

The franchise is probably dead between SC, Elite, No Man's Sky, and Enemy Starfighter.
And it's their own damn fault, to boot. They could have ridden the space game wave. They could have released a modest-to-good game and stock up on mods and hype until the big guys show up, then release an expansion or two and rake in the big moneys.

But noooooo....

Dammit. Such a waste.

I have no doubt the game will be much better with all these new additions. The game released in a pathetic state, but I've always been confident in their abilities to patch all that mess.

I cross my fingers and can't wait for that patch to be released!

Wasn't X3 Reunion released in a similar state where they spent well over a year making it playable, or am I remembering wrong? I still think it can live up to its potential and maybe fill a niche since neither Star Citizen nor Elite Dangerous offer empire building.

Yep, its quite standard for this series.
And its different game than SC and Elite, it definitely has its own niche.

Really, I've gained an average of 30FPS, Ultra Settings w/ 4x AA on a 5870. Never below 35FPS, sector with fog and a lot of particle effect. Average frame rate of 50FPS, 60FPS for the small station, 40FPS into the big one
That is unbelievable. o_O

64-bit

The system requirements for the game have always stated that it requires a 64-bit version of Windows, and the 64-bit version of the game is now successfully in general use. This is likely to be the last major version for which a 32-bit executable is available.

Really excited for those patches. Also nice that they've given expansion DLC for free for all X:Rebirth users.

I'll definitely check it out in December while i'm on vacations :)

Really cool of you guys. I am glad my belief in you guys to pre-order Rerbirth is being validated over time.

Yeah the developers are good guys, if you've followed their support of older games you shouldn't be worried. They'll support this game until they feel it's 'right', plus the community support and modding is always top draw.

Yes, BUT!

X-Rebirth is fundamentally different then all of the X Games before. And not in a good way.
I sunk over 1000 hours in the X Series from X beyond the Frontier through X3 Albion Prelude. I played all X Games.
They propably lost me as a customer with X-Rebirth. Only played it 2 hours.
They were always niche and then they try an effing Console Mainstream Game! 7 Years....

X needed trimming down. but not to this......

Don't really disagree with your disappointment, but at the least they seem to have realized their mistake. Look at the recent patch notes. They are definitely not patching it for mainstream audiences. Each patch seems to bring it closer to what it should have been at launch. That being said, I would have been much happier too with something like an X4 to begin with.

Well hopefully they can finish fixing the engine up (which is quite pretty) and then make a proper X4 eventually with it.

It's neat that they're giving out the first expansion for free. Well, free as long as we claim it during the window before release but I won't complain. More info at RPS.

That combined with the ongoing patches has kept my interest in the game. Granted I haven't played it lately but I'm going to jump into it again once I get my new PC built and it'll be like a new game for me after all the updates and new stuff.

Missed this, there's also a new DLC out. I wonder if it's worth jumping back in yet.
New bulletin board is worth a try imo, if you haven't touched the game for a while there are also plenty of new addition
Looking forward for Home of Light, X3 feels are strong
Such a post release support for a game that is almost 3 years old is fucking incredible

To be honest, they released it three years to early.

Is the game more stable now? I would love try building my own galactic empire.
