Good god, tell me you're joking. MS was the only one of the three this gen who's "nickel and dime" shit was optional. Nintendo (controller length, memory cards) and Sony's (memory cards) wasn't. And their nickel and dime stuff STILL looks to be optional in the 360.

yeah.the ones WHO FORCED YOU to use the remote to use dvds, and kill the option to use the pad instead, but alas the no need for memory cards save the day

anyone knows if to use the 360 via wireless with my wifi modem i will need to buy some adaptor or the console himself can do that outside the box?

Xbox controllers were $40 at launch. I wouldn't be at all surprised if wireless Xbox 360 controllers started at $50....particularly if everyone is looking to scale the cost of gaming upward.

Think of it this way -- in 2001 the cost of a controller was the cost of a game minus ten bucks. In 2005, the cost of a controller will still be the cost of a game minus ten bucks. What a great deal ;)

So, is that pretty much a confirmation of game prices going up?

That's just the assumption of the joke. I think/hope prices will be more stratified like in the PSP game market, with mostly $60 games but some $50 ones.

But you didn't need to use the DVD player section. With PS2/Cube, some accessories were neccessary for gaming.... the Xbox had all the required gaming stuff built-in. 4 ports. Good length cords. Memory Cards (HDD) and so on, no extra purchases needed.

If you wanted to use the Xbox as a DVD player, pay the $30. If not, why add it to the cost of the system for 95% of people already owning a DVD Player of some kind?

The only accessory "necessary" for gaming is a place to store game saves. Microsoft included it, but charged you for nearly everything else - my main annoyance was having to pay extra for Dolby Digital sound. But oh well.

I'm just saying they delivered a console that covered everything needed. Any features unlikely to be common, were cut to save costs and help profit. Considering they still lose money on every console sold, its a bit rich to critiscize them for cost cutting. Afterall, who only has an Xbox for watching DVD's?

Microsoft is going to have a hard enough time convincing mainstream gamers to quit this generation as it is, charging so much for controllers and setting the MSRP of games at $60 sure as hell won't help.

convincing mainstream gamers to quit gaming will have to happen next holiday season. This holiday season and most of 2006 MS has to grab as many early adopters and build up as big a variety of decent games as they can. Plus they need at least one killer app.

lame @ the play and charge thing being sold seperately.

I'm going to kill when I'm playing Oblivion and my controller dies.
