x360 purple stripe?

downloaded the condemned demo off marketplace yesterday, and occasionally there was a bright purple vertical stripe down the middle of the screen. Just for a fraction of a second.

I put it down to a glitch in the demo, but when I exited to the dash, it started popping up there. Its not there this morning, but thats just a quick check. Yesterday it had been on for several hours playing PGR3 previously. Its been OK before.

anyone else had a similar glitch? If the Xbox is on the way out, I'd prefer to swap it sooner rather than later.

Grinning about a fellow poster's soon-to-die 360 is just bad form.

Anyway, if you do see stuff like that and the GPU is overheating... what can you do? Improve ventilation, don't leave it on for hours etc? Or is it inevitable that the 360's gonna die at that point?

If it only happened after several hours of play you might be okay, is there a way you could move it into a better ventilated area?

its on a hard wooden surface with lots of space around. Ditto with the PSU.

I had played PGR for about 3 hours, then downloaded the Condemned demo (so should have been idling). the corruption appeared after about 5-10 minutes play.

I'll keep an eye on it.

I really hope M$ plans on addressing this with a hardware revision soon.

This overheating crap really has me worried. I've been playing Call of Duty with no issues at all, but I haven't really been on any long sessions (1-1.5 hour max). I'm really worried about hthis overheating issue, but I think I'm too much of a casual player to worry about that. I don't even have 4 hours in a row to play games anyway.

I just find this whole thing to be a major blunder from an engineering standpoint. I mean, the thing is supposed to sit there and create heat. Understood. Knowing that, you'd think that they'd make avoiding heat related issues a top priority.

I've left my Gamecube on for 3 or 4 days. I shudder to think what would happen if you did that w/ a 360. Something is wrong, and I don't think it's exhaust related.

Oh give it a rest, a small proportion of consoles probably have too little thermal compound applied. It isn't EVERY machine.

the only issue i have ever had was in PGR3, my enzo in the last garage had one light reflection where the light shining created something rainbow colored with individual pixels all over. I still believe it was more a glitch than an overheated gpu but i guess i`ll find out eventually.

the same purple-blue thing happened to me on COD2, but hasn't happened since. if anything i'm going to play it for longer periods now, because if something's going to permanently burn up, i want it to burn up while it's still under the 90 day MS warranty. just playing it for an hour or so at a time in the hopes it won't overheat or burn up the GPU doesn't make sense to me. i paid for it, so i should be able to play it as long as i want without paranoia about overheating GPUs and such.

But there's only a small portion of consoles out there, so its potentially worrying that the reports of problems like this are as frequent as they are in a small population.
