Found in the FTC's document leak, Phil Spencer confirmed that the P&L statement for FY22 included an expected 31M Xbox Game Pass sub ending balance.

It was reported by Phil Spencer that the service is still at 25m subscribers.

Subscription fatigue is setting in for gaming much like it is for movies.
And the obvious, they need more consistency with big releases, it is the only path towards growth. When you only have 1 or 2 big releases a year, the value proposition evaporates. Why spend $120-$180 annually, when the costs of those 2 big games sits right on the middle at $140. Gamepass starts to make sense if they have 4-5 big games a year. Luckily, (I don't know of you have heard) but Phil Spencer says that if we wait until next year, we should see more consistency in big game releases. 😁

$16 a month is already too much. And the price will be $19.99 in a year

Most people are not going to pay that regularly.

I think we could sell 12 million consoles but with considerable subsidy.

XBOX since 2013...

31 Million subs but XBOX was in court telling the judge that in reality, they haven't moved their sub count in 9 months.

It's likely already at or above 30 even before adding in the ones they get with the Core rebranding. The statement and them not wanting the ticker to go above 25m at all just looks like something they said to FTC to keep an underdog point of view.

How is $16 a month is too much when you gain access to a stupid amount of games?
Only thing u do in your life is gaming? Do u have time for all these games? Do u understand a console sells 8 games average per cycle? People have a life beside game and games are not movies with 2 hours length.
